The idea for this piece started with a photograph I took of some peeling paint on a picnic table in a park. To me the paint looked like a dragon and I decided to have some fun with the idea.
In stories dragons are usually creatures to be feared, but symbolically they can represent wisdom and the primal forces of nature. They are creators and destroyers. A pregnant dragon is a symbol of future growth and expansion. In this piece I play with the idea of birth--of creation, but also the fear of destruction and loss that inevitably happens during the process.
The form of the dragon is the shape from the peeling paint from the photograph. You can still see the marks...

Tenderness descends without demand as one woman leans over another on the bed. The gesture feels private, protective, and almost weightless.
The woman below meets the viewer through her glasses while the purple-haired figure turns her attention inward. One gaze opens the scene; the other sanctifies it.
The world answers them not with noise, but with softened edges, warm linen, and the quiet permission to remain close.
This softly processed color boudoir portrait shows two adult women on a bed. A topless, tattooed woman with short purple hair leans over a dark-haired woman wearing glasses and purple lace lingerie. The vertical composition includes floral bedding, a pale door, warm indoor light, and a gentle shallow-focus treatment. This fine-art portrait was photographed by Faron Ard, a Louisiana and Baton Rouge photographer.

I just recently finished this book. I had started it mid-summer, then put it down due to issues I can no longer recall. But I had picked it up once again a couple of weeks ago and finally read it from cover to cover.
This book is definitely one of my top five all-time favorites. It's made me re-think my perspective in my photography as well as my life. It's inspired and motivated me.
