Memories of Wyoming
This is a piece inspired by memories of growing up on the high prairies and mountains of Wyoming. This is not a delicate piece…it has heft and is made with metal, bones, and stone, and the weight of an artist’s memories.
I used a found object/ metal base and added interesting a stone wheel with the text “The land of clouds and regions of waters” from a William Blake poem.
I further embellished the stone with a bone ring, a tiny bulb with a secret message inside and wire beaded findings. The modern components fit strangely well with the stone and bone. The white bone piece is an old piece of jawbone that I found many years ago on the sagebrush flats in Wyoming. I added a white bird of hope. The piece has an old painted and rusted spring, a tiny buffalo charm, along with wire, more text from Blake and other items of interest. The size is 6 inches by 10 inches. It has wire a hanger on the back for display. By Laurie Dorrell

L’image cueillie
du bout de l’appareil photo,
parcourt un chemin d’alchimie,
au sein de mon cerveau.
Cela commence avant la prise,
une intuition prémonitoire me dit,
qu’en moi au plus profond de mes os,
cette image trouvera une connexion qui luit,
pour qu’un nouvel état, celui de photographie, soit de mise.
Au moment crucial le bruit du déclencheur est très beau,
parfois pour que tout change, une seconde suffit,
c’est là ou les choix se font, que les risques se prennent,
que l’on touche du doigt l’éphémère, de son existence même.
Là tout est encore en germes,
et paradoxalement déjà tracé,
pour que les vingt et un grammes d’âme soient comptés,
j’aime sentir la mystérieuse présence de je ne sais quel esprit,
qu’évoque la fumée de ces faux nuages jetés au ciel comme des gemmes.

Two photos;
That of a ancient portrait, about a man of power,
and that of an atomizer in functioning.
Both are stacked with the aim of strengthening
the anxiety effect of character's eyes.
The buzzard of the atomizer is voluntarily placed in the image.
A way of evoking an invisible, but latent threat.
The very imperious lower part of the face and the almost contemptuous mouth,
are weakened by the fog of water,
and our man at the same time less resistant.
What I had not foreseen and which finally becomes the dominant element,
it is that the water would change in beard!
This lad there had a sacred adaptability...
Deux photographies ;
Celle d’un Ancien portrait, d'un homme de pouvoir,
et celle d’un brumisateur en fonctionnement.
Les deux sont superposés dans le but de renforcer l'effet
d'inquiétude des yeux du personnage.
La buse du brumisateur est volontairement placée dans l'image.
Une manière d'évoquer une menace invisible, mais latente.
Le bas du visage très dominateur et la bouche presque méprisante,
s'en trouvent affaiblis par le brouillard d'eau,
et notre homme dans le même temps moins résistant.
Ce que je n'avais pas prévu et qui finalement devient l'élément dominant,
c'est que l'eau se changerait en barbe!
Ce gars là avait une sacrée faculté d'adaptation...
