This image captures the pensive gaze of an elderly man peering out from a weathered wooden doorway. His weathered features and contemplative expression suggest a life filled with experiences, triumphs, and challenges, while his outstretched hand hints at a message or wisdom he wishes to impart.

Linda Lewis’s surreal digital composition, “Miscalculation Realization,” confronts the viewer with an apocalyptic vision that merges classical symbolism with contemporary existential dread—most pointedly, the catastrophic consequences of climate change.
The digital photomontage shows a nude man, with a white cloth draped over his shoulder. He is kneeling on the ground, his hands are open, and his face is lifted towards the sky. This posture indicates deference, and is a primal behavior. This man is clearly beyond saving from the inferno of burning sand and violent fire he is engulfed by. It could also be interpreted as seeking deliverance from the current situation.
Next to the figure rests an abacus—a powerful metaphor for the failure of humans to pay heed to climate change predictions. The man finally realizes that the predictions were correct, and he submits to this knowledge. In this reading, the image becomes a stark allegory for the hubris of modern civilization, that ignored decades of scientific warnings and now kneels, too late, before the flames it helped ignite.
The environmental message is blisteringly clear. The landscape is not simply infernal—it resembles a climate-ravaged Earth, stripped bare by wildfires, drought, and ecological devastation. The man, perhaps a stand-in for humanity itself, is caught at the moment of horrifying clarity: that civilization has miscalculated the fragility of its own ecosystem.
Miscalculation Realization is a haunting indictment of our failure (refusal) to heed the warnings of climate science, wrapped in the fire-and-ash aesthetic of mythic reckoning. Linda Lewis holds up a mirror to our collective delusion—that we could endlessly calculate, consume, and control nature without consequence. This is not just an image of the end—it is the moment after the final calculation, when the answer has arrived, and it is burning.
This work offers a satirical look at Victorian science and its role in sustaining gender inequality. In that era, women’s intellect was questioned under the banner of “objective” research. Phrenology, neurology, and brain chemistry theories were used to argue female inferiority, even citing the smaller weight of women’s brains. The exaggerated “Female Brain Enlarger” parodies these efforts to “fix” women rather than confront cultural bias. By turning the ordinary act of reading a map into a bizarre experiment, the piece critiques how pseudo-science upheld patriarchal norms—reminding us how absurd such claims appear today. An adventurer arrives at a desert outpost marked with a Heptapod logogram, inspired by the film Arrival and Ted Chiang’s Story of Your Life. A derelict mosque bearing the phrase Peace Be Upon You in Arabic anchors the scene in the Middle East, while crows symbolize wisdom and transformation. With her telescope and luggage, the explorer stands ready for discovery, suggesting this ruin may be a site of contact between humanity and benevolent alien visitors. Step back in time to early 1996 with this evocative photograph capturing one of the most poignant symbols from Croatia’s turbulent history—the Wall of Shame at the United Nations headquarters in Zagreb. This stark image showcases an entrance flanked by wooden boards inscribed with names, each telling its own silent story against a backdrop marked by conflict and peacekeeping efforts.
As you gaze upon this black-and-white snapshot, you’re transported to an era where these names represented lives impacted by war—a powerful reminder etched into Croatia’s architectural landscape. The presence of UN personnel adds gravity to this scene, highlighting their role during a critical juncture in Croatian history.
This photograph is not just an image; it’s an artifact that speaks volumes about resilience and remembrance. It stands as a testament to those who lived through these times and those who served as guardians amidst uncertainty. Architecturally simple yet emotionally complex, this visual narrative captures both historical significance and human endurance.
For historians, architects, or anyone fascinated by global affairs and peacekeeping missions, this photograph offers more than meets the eye—it provides insight into how spaces can become canvases for our collective memories.

In "Smashing Pumpkins," a Halloween witch unleashes her fury upon a marble effigy—the “Dying Gaul”—by smashing pumpkins in a symbolic act of rebellion. The fiery backdrop, drawn in part from Pierre Jacques Volaire’s Nocturnal Capriccio of Rome Burning (1767), evokes the collapse of empire and moral decay. The pumpkins serve as a metaphor for contemporary political corruption and the havoc wrought upon the American people and democratic institutions. The witch’s violent gesture, though fantastical, channels collective outrage against tyranny Through this surreal collision of myth, history, and political commentary, the work explores destruction as both a cathartic and cautionary force. This moment is profoundly significant. It indicates the love and concern Jesus has for His mother, ensuring that she will be taken care of after His death. Additionally, this act has been seen as establishing a spiritual family among Jesus’ followers. Mary is often viewed as a mother figure to the Christian community, with this moment underscoring her role not just as the mother of Jesus but also as a mother to all believers. It highlights themes of love, care, and responsibility that transcend biological relationships, pointing to the broader community of faith.

This phrase is the opening line of the Stabat Mater, a 13th-century Christian hymn portraying the Virgin Mary’s suffering during Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. This line, rich in imagery and emotion, introduces the theme of the hymn: the profound sorrow and suffering of the Virgin Mary as she witnesses the crucifixion of her son, Jesus Christ.

I woke up with this title in my mind and then set out to create an artwork. After searching for a free photograph of what I had in mind, I had to resort to trying AI. Duncan Rawlinson's work is a harmonious union of vibrant color and abstract beauty, a testament to his exceptional artistic vision. His creations illuminate the canvas with vivid hues of city lights and abstract skylines, where the cacophony of urban life converges into a symphony of colors.
The compositions, adorned with bold color blocks and industrial textures, bring a dynamic perspective to the urban landscape. Each image in this series stands as an emblem of Rawlinson's unique interpretation of the city's vibrant energy. His use of vibrant reds, light blues, oranges, and dark cyan, create a stunning visual narrative that transcends the boundaries of traditional art forms.
While technology has played a role in the creation of these pieces, the true focus remains on the vivid colors and the abstract beauty that shines through. The final compositions, reflecting the interplay of vibrant colors and abstract elements, pay a visually stunning tribute to the city's pulsating energy and the tranquil beauty inherent within abstract art.

Under a star-sprinkled expanse, where darkness unfurled its velvet mantle, there swirled an ocean of colors that had no name. Two entities, beings of light and shadow, with no form but that which the mind might give them, glided through the void. One, ablaze with the fiercest oranges and reds, flickered like the final defiant stand of daylight against the encroaching night. The other, a wraith in hues of the deepest blues, moved with the silent grace of the ocean's depths.
They were wanderers, separate and solitary, each on an aeon-long journey that had known neither beginning nor end. Until now. For as they drew near, a strange and wondrous phenomenon occurred. Their lights did not clash nor overpower; they entwined, a visual cadence, an artist’s unseen masterpiece drawn across the heavens.
The mingling of their essences painted new vistas upon the black. Where once was only the cold, unforgiving void, now swirled mists of potential, of worlds unborn and tales untold. They communicated not with sounds but with the very fibers of their beings, a sharing of experiences, memories, and the unquantifiable substance of their existence.
A traveler of the stars, if such a fortunate observer existed, might wonder at this spectacle. They might craft narratives of these beings’ origins, of their purpose and their end. But the truth, as it often is, would be far grander and more profound than any simple story.
For in this fleeting union, not bound by the tick of a clock nor the turn of a page, there was a knowledge that no words could capture, only the soul could comprehend. The traveler would understand then, that they had not merely witnessed an event; they had glimpsed a rare, unrepeatable moment—a conversation between the stars.

Main Street America depicts a peaceful small-town scene shattered by the arrival of heavily armed government agents. Belle and her dog become the focus of state aggression simply because she belongs to a group resisting the banning of books. By showing authoritarian power invading an ordinary American street, the artwork warns how quickly freedom can erode when governments label dissent as terrorism. Belle’s quiet refusal to comply symbolizes the fragile but vital courage needed to defend intellectual and personal liberty. I decided that the first opera presented at the renamed Kennedy Center should be titled "I really don't dare, do U?" It's the story of an amoral and avaricious social climbing woman who succeeds at the expense of her humanity. On July 22, 2025, Republicans on the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives passed an amendment that would rename Kennedy Center to First Lady Melania Trump Opera House. The amendment, introduced by Rep. Mike Simpson, a Republican from Idaho, passed as part of the 2026 Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. The bill and amendment had yet to become law. Snopes. The quote is not attributed to her, but was written on a jacket she wore on a trip to visit children at a migrant center.
