South park was initially made using stop motion technique and paper cutout modules to make the characters. After the first episode, they started using computers to create the animation, still using the simplistic animation style. However as the show grew, the techniques became more complex, creating elements of 3D, landscape and shadow onto the original template.

Boxed In depicts three abandoned “Standard Doll Company” dolls placed in coffins, awaiting an uncertain fate. Once rescued from the landfill when their factory was slated for demolition, the dolls now embody a metaphor for how women have been commodified, confined, and discarded by society when no longer deemed “useful.” The scattered nails and open coffins reflect both threat and possibility—will they be sealed away, or will they find new life? In Last Refuge, three women stand at the edge of what appears to be the final sanctuary in a post apocalyptic America. The landscape is barren, the sky bruised with dust and fading light, and the remnants of human civilization have gathered in a sprawling refugee encampment made of scavenged materials and desperate hope.
These women—survivors hardened by their journey—arrive at the camp seeking safety, connection, or perhaps redemption. Their clothing and posture reflect resilience and uncertainty; they are both outsiders and potential members of this new, fragile society. Before them, a figure in white seems to emerge as a beacon—whether savior, leader, or illusion, we cannot be sure. The encampment stretches into the horizon, suggesting both the vastness of human displacement and the persistence of community even amid collapse.
By setting this scene in what was once the United States, Last Refuge inverts the narrative of privilege and stability, confronting the viewer with a sobering vision of reversal. The familiar becomes alien; the idea of “home” becomes transient. Yet beneath the desolation lies a quiet endurance—a testament to human adaptability and the unrelenting will to survive, even when civilization itself has failed. This artwork was inspired by a discussion I read on “Romani Women in Romani and Majority Societies” (errc.org). It envisions a secluded forest encampment where Romani women, separated from their families and traditions, forge independent lives. In quiet resistance to oppressive cultural norms, they create a space for healing, redefinition, and self-empowerment—seeking not to abandon their heritage, but to reshape it with dignity and renewed purpose. This poignant image captures a somber collection of historical artifacts, specifically a variety of old traps, displayed in a dimly lit environment. The composition emphasizes the intricate details and textures of the rusted metal and worn wood, evoking a sense of nostalgia and reflection on the past. The arrangement of the traps creates a layered effect, drawing the viewer's eye across the image and inviting contemplation on their historical significance, particularly in the context of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The subdued lighting enhances the mood, creating a stark contrast that highlights the artifacts' weathered surfaces.

Here it is. This is what I shot over a thousand pictures to get down to. Seems crazy, right? It was an amazing experience. I came to understand how a good (in the care of my teacher, great) photo editor can look at dozens of pictures … and see a story. Here's mine, edited and laid out by National Geographic's Senior Projects Editor Bill Douthitt. What you see here is what was shown a the Big Friday Night show at the Maine Media Workshops, along with the work of the rest of our class, and also the rest of the week's participants. It was a really great time for me and I was very very smiley.
