Lives of children in need are being transformed each day, thanks to the generous support of sponsors and donors through World Vision.Now, it is these children who in turn help other children in need. When some 15 children got together to save money, their money saved other children from hunger and dropping out of school.
Setbacks in agriculture and the closure of tea and spice estates forced traditional farmers of Idukki District, Kerala, to look for work as daily labourers. Their meager income was insufficient to pay for the educational needs, resulting in children dropping out of school and being forced to work to supplement the household income.World Vision India, which mobilises children in the communities into ‘Children’s Clubs’, used this situation as an opportunity to inculcate in the children the habit of saving.
It helped these children’s clubs to open savings account at the nearest post office or co-operative bank. Each child in the children’s club was given a ‘hundi’ (savings box) and was encouraged to save whatever money they received from their parents, however small the amount. At the end of each week, the money ‘saved’ was collected and credited into the savings account.
Whenever there was a need among the children’s club members to pay school fees or to buy books, money was taken from the savings account and given to the family. Parents stopped going to moneylenders to meet their children’s educational expenses.

Lotus Cave (Chinese: 芙蓉洞 Furong Dong) is a karst cave located on the banks of the Furong River, 20 km from Wulong County town, Chongqing, China. It was listed in South China Karst UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. Lotus Cave has a total length of 2,846 metres (9,337 ft) and a width varying from 30 m (98 ft)–50 metres (160 ft).

This is straight out of the camera, at 1/15th of a second. It’s not what I was trying to do, of course, but I thought it was neat.
In Utopian Visions, running from September 25, 2008 through March 29, 2009 at the Arab American National Museum, four artists of Arab descent, all women, each conceive their own vision of a more perfect place. The works created by these artists – Rima Al-awar, Rana Chalabi, Roula Ayoub and Emna Zghal – draw upon disparate forms of inspiration, ranging from nature to poetry to spiritual belief, challenging the viewers to consider their own interpretations of utopia.
