It is our goal to continue to display and sell works of art of high quality artists who both live and paint in our area now or have in the past. Masters like Emile Gruppe, Charles Curtis Allen, Fred Hines, George Carpenter, Alden Bryan, Thomas Curtin and more are also offered for sale at 100 Main Street Fine Art. All have left their individual impressions of our wonderful landscapes on canvas.

In Utopian Visions, running from September 25, 2008 through March 29, 2009 at the Arab American National Museum, four artists of Arab descent, all women, each conceive their own vision of a more perfect place. The works created by these artists – Rima Al-awar, Rana Chalabi, Roula Ayoub and Emna Zghal – draw upon disparate forms of inspiration, ranging from nature to poetry to spiritual belief, challenging the viewers to consider their own interpretations of utopia.

Quito (Pichincha).- El exalcalde de Bogotá, Antanas Mockus, se reunió con el Presidente Rafael Correa y su gabinete ministerial para compartir la visión y experiencia en la capital colombiana en lo concerniente al cambio cultural. En breves declaraciones a la prensa, Mockus dijo que la charla con el equipo de trabajo gubernamental giró en torno a la relacion entre norma formales e informales para cambiar ciertas conductas. “A veces una ley ayuda mucho a resolver un problema, pero otras veces, el problema no está en la ley sino en el comportamiento y las convicicciones de la gente”, por lo que el buen ejemplo es el que costruyen mejor las normas, consideró el intelectual. Antanas Mockus fue candidato a la Vicepresidencia en 1998 y a la Presidencia de la República en 2006 y en 2010. Actualmente dirige la Corporación Visionarios por Colombia (Corpovisionarios), un centro de pensamiento y acción que investiga e implementa acciones para lograr cambios voluntarios de comportamientos colectivos. The bowl on the top is a wash basin. I don´t like to move around stuff to much when being out exploring old buildings and settlements. Not that I think anyone would care to much, but anyway. Found these behind an old outhouse yesterday.
There are so many fine details rusting/fading away around us. To me, it´s a very interesting question why we, or at least some of us, find things like this beautiful. Of course they have a history to tell, but besides that? Why do we see things, patterns, a crack in a wall, and such as beautiful, or at least very interesting to the eye?
Writing about this, I recall a starry night long ago. Me and a friend gazed at all the beauty up there... My friend said something like: "God must be an amazing dude, making all this beauty!" What amazed me even more, was the question why we are amazed and thrilled by this? What created that sense in us? Why? To feel love for the things we see around us? I have studied arts and I have studied theology for many years, but these questions still begs for a satisfying answer... I have some clues and theories why though, but I won´t write about that now... :)
Maybe you have had the same thoughts too? Maybe not.
