With grace and elegance the artist presented us with a myriad of crystal visions. The light seemed to be enchanted into, onto and through the crystal sphere. His control of the seemingly free flowing orb of light conjured up a crowd all of whom were transfixed by his skills. Each movement was full of purpose and poise, each action one after the other giving a yet more dazzling display.

This is straight out of the camera, at 1/15th of a second. It’s not what I was trying to do, of course, but I thought it was neat.
In Utopian Visions, running from September 25, 2008 through March 29, 2009 at the Arab American National Museum, four artists of Arab descent, all women, each conceive their own vision of a more perfect place. The works created by these artists – Rima Al-awar, Rana Chalabi, Roula Ayoub and Emna Zghal – draw upon disparate forms of inspiration, ranging from nature to poetry to spiritual belief, challenging the viewers to consider their own interpretations of utopia.

There's a tradition among some boaters, pilots, astronomers, etc. to use red illumination at night, on the theory that it helps preserve your dark-adapted vision. Whether that's actually true is still debated (with light as bright as this the answer is probably not). I didn't get to ask this motel's owner if that was the theory here, but I was having flashbacks to submarine suspense movies.
