oooops! I made this ages ago. Was just updating the tumblr site when I realized that there is no image to link to on Flickr!

Anyway, this is actually only a skin layer onto which you attach a whole bunch of things, including two kinds of headdresses, a collar, a belt and shoes.

BeTeBe were these tiny mosaic wall and floor tiling thingies which used to be very popular when I was kid. (At least that was they were called around here back then). Anyway, after a long hiatus alpha.tribe is back at work and being the CEO and everything, of course, I get to take first dibs: This comes with male and female garments/skin and quite a few attachments, including hair and shoes.

Staffordshire University have some interesting displays concerning Second Life and assessing learning in this kind of media.

Soon there will be a retrospective exhibition of Roy Ascott's work at the Plymouth Arts Centre in the UK.

Part of what is planned in terms of activities surrounding the event involves young artists from Plymouth to engage in creative activity (based upon Roy's educational methodology, the Groundcourse) in SL. Their meeting/building area will be this 80 x 80 x 80 meter floating sphere which I rezed at Syncretia

More shots of the power plant and Cappadocia. I have added a series of hamster wheels which I did do some work on first: Lifitng the wheels out of their cages and adding some color and shine really helped integrate them into the plant I think. Also added are some gothic thorn bushes from the Heart Gardening Center, which I have sunk into big concrete planters. I have decided long ago that plants sunk into SL soil just don't do it for me. And I have added the rain, huge thunderstorms in fact. This has all been taken with windlight and I love the way you get a mixture of sun and rain in some of these. It has proven to be almost impossible to capture the lightning on these shots, but if you actually go there you will see that it is lightning and thundering like crazy...

There are many repeat shots here where the only difference is the windlight settings. I am uploading them anyway since it may interest people to see how big the difference is.

Hack and wolfie rez more and more planes, creating a really bizarre conglomeration of wings and engines. The sound generated by so many planes alone was quite something!

The reflective surfaces are not textures!

Mumixer had pointed me in the direction of Devil's Moon a few weeks ago but with one thing and another I only made it out there today - and fell flat on my face so to speak: I was always under the impression that reflections and reflectivity is beyond the scope of present day real time render. So, how on earth did they achieve this? And why does it create no lag whatsoever? I took a lot of screenshots, some from the exact same location at slight angle variations since I want my computer scientist colleague, Selim to take a look at these and tell me what the hell is going on here...

Beautiful SIM too btw, but quite frankly the technology had me so gobsmacked that I couldn't really take much else in. Will go back for sure.

6 hours later:

ahum... Mossy put me wise: It is an extremely clever design trick: They did the entire architecture twice, one being the perpendicular mirror image of the other and then interleaved it with those transparent textures.

jeez... am i embarrassed or what?

This sphere will distort, split apart and fragment any linked prim object. The pieces that fall towards the perimeter of the sphere travel/rotate at great speed while pieces that manage to stay closer to the center go much slower.

The object being demolished at the moment is actually an avatar, built in homage to Miro. Now this one here takes all of its input from EEG scans and reconfigures itself according to that live data feed...

Cool huh? Hey, what can I tell ya? They have all these totally brilliant instructors you know...

hhhhh

CUDDLE CORNER is a NEW curved stone bench with conifers and pretty pastel pink flowers and grass. It has singles and couples sitting animations. Check it out at: slurl.com/secondlife/Ferndale/90/142/25

Photograph settings are SL defaults and was taken on site at Two Moon Gardens using mid-morning setting.

The image of it that I saw on SL exchange seemed interesting enough so I went out there and mostly it is quite nice. My big gripe is with the really very clumsily designed chair (which I made a point of to keep out of these shots). Oh, and the zodiac images are definitely not by Leonardo but Johan Bode, I believe, although I may be wrong. But, if it isn't Bode then it is another one of the 17th century astronomers, maybe John Bevis or Stanislav Lubieniecki. Some one like that anyway...

But I don't mean to be difficult, it is just my nasty old But I don't mean to be difficult, it is just my nasty little college professor demeanor raising its uncontrollable ugly head here.

Definitely well worth a visit... :)

Again I have added transparency to most of the prims that make up the original defender avatar of Flea Bussy and assembled them around Alpha to create the mechanoid/humanoid hybrid which is now posing on one of the hamster wheels at Syncretia. The skin is, yet again, Vry Offcourse's "Forge" skin...
