My recent visit to Karnak is still roaming around in my brain. So, here I am playing Alphshepsut (a thoroughly questionable reincarnation of Hatshepsut?)......
I was actually looking for something completely different in a sky shop when I stumbled upon this dress and really beautiful it is too. So, I took myself to the Egyptian temple at Themiskyra and did a little playing around being an Egyptian Priestess...

I hardly ever take self portraits, only silly outfit photos in which I pose the garment. But tonight I really felt like it...
The famous Replicator avatar of Grendel's Children. I did not use one in its entirety but assembled the elements of several of them around Alpha; since in their original state these avatars diverge too far from the human and would probably fall outside the Uncanny Valley's threshold.
In this first trial shoot I am using Loli Nori's really amazing charcoal "Drow" skin, which she (for some reason best known to her alone) is giving away as a freebie at the Bare Rose Mall. This skin is simply the best skin that I have seen anywhere in Second Life. Sadly, I do not use it on a regular basis since the dark tone sort of stops Alpha from being the "look alike" avatar that I prefer her to be. I am not too sure that this skin will actually get Alpha into the range of the Valley's threshold since it is actually very "humanly" expressive. It is why it is such a gorgeous skin in the first place...

One major worry when designing a huge space, which is exactly what an SL island is, is that the space won't gel, won't create good transitions from one visual domain to the other - unless, of course, you are designing something that is all part of one visual system and/or serves one function. Syncretia has entirely different spaces and visual approaches, and that has been my intention from the very beginning. Cappadocia is situated very close to the botanical garden and looking at them together made me do quite a bit of additional work on the garden's, originally white, cubes. I added textures as well as bumpmapping. I think this brings the two environments into closer harmony, while still sufficiently distinguishing them from one another.
The poses are by the amazing Frigg Ragu. Who else? I am addicted. Actually looking forward to taking photos of these things nowadays! Amazing...
This is actually a really old outfit which I completely retextured and added countless attachements to. It is unisex, has male/female skins, skirts for both, capes - one simple the other one more ornate, no less than 4 variations on the necklace (got a tad carried away there - hhh), torso, arm and leg ornaments, boots for boyz and gurlz, and a mohawk of course.

Like I said, it seems that I should make an effort and try to get out and about a bit more. Point in case: This is the very first time that I am actually seeing someone wearing alpha.tribe apparel in public! So, how pathetic is that, given that we have been in operation for well over 4 months now! Autistic more like?
His name is Gonzo Tigerfish. He is wearing the geometric Aqva skin and the aqva sports shoes together with Grapho's Black Ammonite outfit and Helena Stringer's thunderdrome mohawk. And then he has most effectively combined these with some other things as well.
And he danced and even looked (a bit) like Freddy Mercury. Minus the teeth of course.

Measuring just 16m x 13m, 21 prims and mod/copy, The Rockery is perfect for filling that corner in a spring/summer garden and large enough to take a bench too to provide a sheltered seating area. Photograph settings are SL defaults on Ultra and was taken on site at Two Moon Gardens using a late morning setting. Everything else in the camera view was derendered and a prim with a library grass texture placed underneath the garden.

Huge black and white bubble-like shapes create a dramatic contrast against the black and white square tiling.
More shots of the power plant and Cappadocia. I have added a series of hamster wheels which I did do some work on first: Lifitng the wheels out of their cages and adding some color and shine really helped integrate them into the plant I think. Also added are some gothic thorn bushes from the Heart Gardening Center, which I have sunk into big concrete planters. I have decided long ago that plants sunk into SL soil just don't do it for me. And I have added the rain, huge thunderstorms in fact. This has all been taken with windlight and I love the way you get a mixture of sun and rain in some of these. It has proven to be almost impossible to capture the lightning on these shots, but if you actually go there you will see that it is lightning and thundering like crazy...
There are many repeat shots here where the only difference is the windlight settings. I am uploading them anyway since it may interest people to see how big the difference is.
The Nidhogg is a highly evil mythological creature in that it is the dragon that perpetually chews at the roots of the Tree of Life. Alpha is Nidhogg here, dressed in one of June Dion's spectacular costumes.
Although the clothing as well as what they represent is truly ominous, is Alpha herself in the Valley threshold? She is fully human and thanks to Loli Nori's Vampire skin quite a fetching one at that... So, is she repulsive or not?

So, this creature called the Syncretia Schweinchen (presumably a distant realtive of that other notable pig, the Forschungs Ferkel) is put on Syncretia ostensibly to protect me from griefers and such... However, as it turns out, the beast leaves others alone and turns around and attacks ME!!!

To visit the University of Brighton area, you need to be a member of the development group. There's a lot of lively work going on, plus a substantial sandpit area for experimentation (at the time of visit, jukeboxes were being constructed).

So, here we are! Is this cool or what?
We had been considering doing this for quite a while now. Problem was finding really good locations: Places that do not try to boost their traffic with campers, where one is in the company of good designers, where the mall itself is tastefully built...
I found out about the D.C. District mall through the landmark of a hair designer I spotted at the hair fair. I was very impressed by the simple, clean, dark (;-) design of the mall as well as the level of the output of the designers whose work is featured here.

I did modify the cart a bit. It was red but I am not exactly known for my love of color so it became more monochromatic. But otherwise - perfect!!!
I would like to meet Cory. Anyone who has this sort of an unselfconscious attitude towards the entire creative process and who has imagination like this on top of it, is totally OK in my book!
Oh and the penguin? Absolutely adorable the way he is squatting on his little mountain of ice cubes. I also put 3 of his brothers on the north shore, where it is nice and cold - I think they will like it here...
