Truth be told, I initially made this avatar precisely for this purpose - for the sim, to take photographs. The idea to release it as part of the alpha.tribe collection came later...

So, here they are, my contradictory avatars. ;-)

Up until about 800 years ago Turks were nomads, living on the plains of Central Asia. So, contrary to popular misconception, we are not a middle eastern/Arabic culture but an oriental one; the closest linguistic relatives being Korean and Japanese. And apparently my own looks kick back to a great grandfather from Bukhara...

So, what better dwelling than a tent for a virtual nomad?

This one is from Angry Monkey, although I changed all of the original textures. Those were quite nice too but not exactly right for Syncretia.

Party was held on Tuesday 27th January 2015 at the Rhapsody in Bloom venue at Two Moon Gardens from 12pm to 2pm SLT. Theme was Best in Biker.

Best in White party, a Bee Gees celebration, was held at Two Moon Gardens in Second Life on Wednesday 4th February from 2pm to 4pm SLT / 10pm to midnight UK time with British voice DJ Anjoux Herbit and hostess Tori Landau.

Various crazy things developed by arts students. Great fun wandering around here, as well as sitting next to the fire. My (real life) one is warmer, though.

Amina has made this out of an image created with the wonderful chaoscope software (http://www.chaoscope.org/). Comes with male/female skins and tiny bodysuits; head, chest, stomach and lower leg spiral attachments. All of the textures on these are animated which gives this avatar something of a fluid feel.

Hack is a champ: Once he is reassured that I will not be demolishing the hospital and the subway he hunkers down to the task of smoothing out my plot. A part of the operation could be tricky, not to mention dangerous. He needs to descend into the foundations of my wonderful new townhouse/subway stop to do some detail work. God knows what the air is like down there so, of course, I follow him down, urging him to not to forget to put on his gas mask please!

The reflective surfaces are not textures!

Mumixer had pointed me in the direction of Devil's Moon a few weeks ago but with one thing and another I only made it out there today - and fell flat on my face so to speak: I was always under the impression that reflections and reflectivity is beyond the scope of present day real time render. So, how on earth did they achieve this? And why does it create no lag whatsoever? I took a lot of screenshots, some from the exact same location at slight angle variations since I want my computer scientist colleague, Selim to take a look at these and tell me what the hell is going on here...

Beautiful SIM too btw, but quite frankly the technology had me so gobsmacked that I couldn't really take much else in. Will go back for sure.

6 hours later:

ahum... Mossy put me wise: It is an extremely clever design trick: They did the entire architecture twice, one being the perpendicular mirror image of the other and then interleaved it with those transparent textures.

jeez... am i embarrassed or what?

BeTeBe were these tiny mosaic wall and floor tiling thingies which used to be very popular when I was kid. (At least that was they were called around here back then). Anyway, after a long hiatus alpha.tribe is back at work and being the CEO and everything, of course, I get to take first dibs: This comes with male and female garments/skin and quite a few attachments, including hair and shoes.

For some unknown reason I have always been fascinated by old sea disaster paintings. So, Amina, who is the one best suited to the task at hand will be creating a series of these avatars which I then intend to use for constructing "genre photographs". hhh...

This comes with male/female skins where you get the disaster on your tummy (ouch!), garments, a sculpted body drape, leg drapes, belt/skirt, a bandana and shoes.

My recent visit to Karnak is still roaming around in my brain. So, here I am playing Alphshepsut (a thoroughly questionable reincarnation of Hatshepsut?)......

I was actually looking for something completely different in a sky shop when I stumbled upon this dress and really beautiful it is too. So, I took myself to the Egyptian temple at Themiskyra and did a little playing around being an Egyptian Priestess...

Some more wonders by Flea Bussy: A golem, a defender and a crawler. I shall be breaking them apart and combining them with "human" Alpha but they are so gorgeous as they are that I decided to photograph them in thier entirety first. Besides I need the fully non-humanoid avatars for comparison purposes anyway. So, these avatars are well differentiated into being non-human. As such they would have to fall outside the Valley threshold. But do they I wonder?

This newest by Xiamara has more spikes than a porcupine! The whole outfit came out of Xia (as usual) grabbing an opportunity to get up my nose: I was mouthing off to Bettina Tizzy about how I loathed brown to the extent where I did not even have a single brown garment in my RL closet, when she turned around and made this: A brown as brown can be outfit for men and women!

The garment takes its somewhat high falutin' name from the fact that all the textural elements used are art nouveau/seccesionist ornaments. And Xia insists that this is a floral outfit and I have to say that I can not disagree with her. Who said flowers were these cute little innocent things anyway? They can be soooo spikey...

Heartfelt thanks go to Truthseeker Young who gave us a set of amazing prim attachments which we have agreed to put to good use in a collaborative project in the near future. However, Xiamara could not resist utilizing the belt for this garment as well.

** HALF-PRICE - MERIDIAN MESH BRIDGES IN WINTER **

Another amazing bargain - buy either or both of our Meridian Mesh Bridges ~ Winter, for just half price each. We have the one with Lights, measuring 22m x 12m and 15 prims OR the Straight one measuring 13m X 7m and only 9 prims. Both come with two version in their boxes, one with and one without snow covering. Check them out here: slurl.com/secondlife/Ferndale/117/135/24

Photograph settings are SL defaults and was taken on site at Two Moon Gardens using a just after midday setting. Surface patch and water were derendered and a prim with a library snow texture placed underneath the bridge.

Theme was Best in Fairies or Elves and was held at the Radiant Falls venue at Two Moon Gardens on Tuesday 10th March 2015 from 12pm to 2pm SLT with DJ Greywolf (aka DJ Dieter) and hostess Elleese: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ferndale/112/76/26

On really big farms they plant crops with helis don't they?

Well, our crops are nukes! Hack and I start out at Syncretia and fly the length and breadth of the Archipelago planting nukes!!!

hhhh...

We are such GOOD examples to our students! It is absolutely mind boggling that they should be lucky enough to get educated by such fine, upstanding role models...

Hack and wolfie rez more and more planes, creating a really bizarre conglomeration of wings and engines. The sound generated by so many planes alone was quite something!

Nothing like a bit of healthy competition, is there? Not to be outdone by the likes of Amina (smug little cow!), I have brought my own interpretation to the "Aqva" theme.

The mohawk which I recommend for this outfit is called "Thunderdrome". For me it is the mohawk amongst mohawks in SL. And you will need to put it on before you know all the reasons. It has been created by none other than the amazing Ms. Helena Stringer. Not only amazing for talent but also for generosity: She is giving away this beauty as a dollarbie texture tester at her store at Lyashko:

Making an outfit out of the jellyfish which I made for Syncretia was actually one of the very first things that I had in mind when I started making skins and apparel. It is now Alpho, our hybrid creatures specialist, who has undertaken this.

Men and women get the skins, the jellyfish "skirts", tendril spines and cheeks, a nice little skullcap and tendril shoes.

We are outed!

Thanks to a wonderful blog post by Helena Stringer more and more people seem to be finding their way to our shop alpha.tribe. So, really no point in keeping this a secret any longer, here is the slurl:

We still have a ways to go, with not an awful lot of merchandise in evidence, which was the reason for not going public until now...

Xia has created 3 skin based outfits which are loosely inspired by Henri Rousseau's paintings (or so she insists - but you know Xia). For one of them she has created a custom headpiece but for the others she recommends Helena Stringer's amazing mohawk Thunderdrome, to be found amongst the texture testers at her store, the Mausoleum:

More shots of the power plant and Cappadocia. I have added a series of hamster wheels which I did do some work on first: Lifitng the wheels out of their cages and adding some color and shine really helped integrate them into the plant I think. Also added are some gothic thorn bushes from the Heart Gardening Center, which I have sunk into big concrete planters. I have decided long ago that plants sunk into SL soil just don't do it for me. And I have added the rain, huge thunderstorms in fact. This has all been taken with windlight and I love the way you get a mixture of sun and rain in some of these. It has proven to be almost impossible to capture the lightning on these shots, but if you actually go there you will see that it is lightning and thundering like crazy...

There are many repeat shots here where the only difference is the windlight settings. I am uploading them anyway since it may interest people to see how big the difference is.

This one took a long time coming. It is the sister outfit of one called "My name is Black" which Grapho made quite some time ago. It is a challenge when you base a garment on as spectacular a book as "My name is Red" by Orhan Pamuk is. The story evolves around a murder mystery involving a group of calligraphers in 16th century Istanbul. And so, Xia based the garment on Ottoman ornamentations and (predictably enough) the color red.

This is unisex and has a huge turban (well, sort of ;-) festooned with pennants, harem boots, arm and leg attachments and male and female belts.
