The reflective surfaces are not textures!

Mumixer had pointed me in the direction of Devil's Moon a few weeks ago but with one thing and another I only made it out there today - and fell flat on my face so to speak: I was always under the impression that reflections and reflectivity is beyond the scope of present day real time render. So, how on earth did they achieve this? And why does it create no lag whatsoever? I took a lot of screenshots, some from the exact same location at slight angle variations since I want my computer scientist colleague, Selim to take a look at these and tell me what the hell is going on here...

Beautiful SIM too btw, but quite frankly the technology had me so gobsmacked that I couldn't really take much else in. Will go back for sure.

6 hours later:

ahum... Mossy put me wise: It is an extremely clever design trick: They did the entire architecture twice, one being the perpendicular mirror image of the other and then interleaved it with those transparent textures.

jeez... am i embarrassed or what?

Weekly party, with theme of Best in Gold or Silver, was held at a NEW venue, Rhapsody, at Two Moon Gardens on Tuesday, November 11th 2014 from 12pm to 2pm SLT: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ferndale/51/131/27

After ominously rumbling overhead with her plane for sometime Barbara finally makes an appearance...

Soon there will be a retrospective exhibition of Roy Ascott's work at the Plymouth Arts Centre in the UK.

Part of what is planned in terms of activities surrounding the event involves young artists from Plymouth to engage in creative activity (based upon Roy's educational methodology, the Groundcourse) in SL. Their meeting/building area will be this 80 x 80 x 80 meter floating sphere which I rezed at Syncretia

can be now viewed here: ruyschavatars.tumblr.com/

(There will be more episodes added to the 3 that seem to be more or less done at the moment.)

And you can read more about what this is all in aid of here:

;-)

This very ambitious virtual architecture project is being developed by 2 of our students Bulut Sakçak and Fethi Özdol.

A vastly scaled down version rezzed in a sandbox, this building generates itself depending upon its usage at the time and the number of its users... Modules generate themselves above and to the sides of the spiral construct, which is in a perpetual state of slow rotation btw, depending on user numbers and need. Crowded days will see a much larger building, quiet days a smaller one...

I logged in for a second just now, realized halfway there that I had to get out ASAP because the computer was actually doing a scheduled virus scan and so I really had no CPU left over for running around in SL. However, just as I was loging off, I received this (a flower emitter staff) from Truthseeker. And as it happens, only yesterday I had bought this hair from MAU's & MEJ's. So, I am not sure if Truthseeker and Sunnivah Jiutai are in cahoots here or what, but I really could not resist shooting these together. Not good photos - like I said it was a real rush job, but simply too color co-ordinatedly accessorized a look to resist documentation I thought...

The poses are by the amazing Frigg Ragu. Who else? I am addicted. Actually looking forward to taking photos of these things nowadays! Amazing...

This is actually a really old outfit which I completely retextured and added countless attachements to. It is unisex, has male/female skins, skirts for both, capes - one simple the other one more ornate, no less than 4 variations on the necklace (got a tad carried away there - hhh), torso, arm and leg ornaments, boots for boyz and gurlz, and a mohawk of course.

The University of Bedfordia is an extensively developed island, with only a slight change from it's real world name.

The famous Replicator avatar of Grendel's Children. I did not use one in its entirety but assembled the elements of several of them around Alpha; since in their original state these avatars diverge too far from the human and would probably fall outside the Uncanny Valley's threshold.

In this first trial shoot I am using Loli Nori's really amazing charcoal "Drow" skin, which she (for some reason best known to her alone) is giving away as a freebie at the Bare Rose Mall. This skin is simply the best skin that I have seen anywhere in Second Life. Sadly, I do not use it on a regular basis since the dark tone sort of stops Alpha from being the "look alike" avatar that I prefer her to be. I am not too sure that this skin will actually get Alpha into the range of the Valley's threshold since it is actually very "humanly" expressive. It is why it is such a gorgeous skin in the first place...

Theme was Best in White and was held at the Under the Arches venue at Two Moon Gardens in Second Life on Tuesday, 17th February 2015 from 12pm to 2pm SLT with DJ Greywolf (aka DJ Dieter from the Purple Gator) and hostess Elleese.

Photograph settings are SL defaults on Ultra and was taken on site at the vendor at Two Moon Gardens using the midday setting. Everything else in the camera view was derendered and a prim with a library grass texture placed underneath the border.

Huge black and white bubble-like shapes create a dramatic contrast against the black and white square tiling.

I add the clockwork skin created by Pandorra Wrigglesworth to the steampunk arms and legs and remove the hair and ears. Now, I think, Alpha is closer to the Valley.

There definitely has to be something to this theory: I do not feel good subjecting Alpha to all of this and the subtle shifts from human to only peripherally human make me feel decidedly uncomfortable.

I hardly ever take self portraits, only silly outfit photos in which I pose the garment. But tonight I really felt like it...

It is probably the fact that I never ever will be wearing anything remotely as elegant and/or erotic in RL that draws me to these types of clothes. But SL is no different: I hang around in jeans all day regardless of whether I'm here or there.

Still...
