Grapho has finally gotten round to doing what he has been wanting to do since his rezz day pretty much - a "mech" avatar!

This is constructed out of invisiprims: At one point we realized that if you add shine to an invisprim, it turns into a most wonderful glass bubble. Of course, invisprims are highly problematic next to any alpha transparent texture, but the effect is so nice that Grapho let caution fly to the winds and indulged.

So, you get the male/female skins, the helmet, "mech" arm wings, lower arms, "mech" hands, a very elaborate machine-like pelvis, combined with upper legs and "mech" feet.

It has to be said outright that I cannot play any musical instrument in Real Life. Be that as it may, wolfie's piano really inspired me, so one of the things that I have had my heart set on lately has been a piano in Second Life. I spent quite a while hunting around for one and getting myself familiarized with sheet music and so on, but then tonight I finally got one. In fact, I ended up getting two: One, which has a very high prim count for Syncretia and a lower prim version for Klein. I set the one for Syncretia up on the western shore, against all the black textures that I have there.

I guess lurking somewhere deep inside is a concert pianist here because the amount of joy that I derived from playing this tonight is almost pathetic.

Oh, and I am playing the Goldberg Variations btw. Obviously, nothing less will do... hhhhh

This unisex outfit is actually the sister outfit of one on which Xiamara is working at the moment. I should probably be saying "brother outfit" though, considering that this has actually been designed by Grapho, our in-house dark/texture specialist.

These two outfits are both inspired by the novel "My name is Red" by Turkish Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk. The book describes the events surrounding a murder amongst illuminator/calligraphers in 16th century Istanbul. And so, Ottoman ornamentation is the underlying design system for both this one as well as Xia's, which will in fact be called "My name is Red" in tribute to Orhan Pamuk, and will be released within a few days. (Hopefully!)

Oh and, not to forget, Grapho has lightened up the regal nature of the pennants and the Ottoman boots which go with the outfit, with a custom textured pogo stick with which you can become a hopping Sultan or Sultana!

More shots of the power plant and Cappadocia. I have added a series of hamster wheels which I did do some work on first: Lifitng the wheels out of their cages and adding some color and shine really helped integrate them into the plant I think. Also added are some gothic thorn bushes from the Heart Gardening Center, which I have sunk into big concrete planters. I have decided long ago that plants sunk into SL soil just don't do it for me. And I have added the rain, huge thunderstorms in fact. This has all been taken with windlight and I love the way you get a mixture of sun and rain in some of these. It has proven to be almost impossible to capture the lightning on these shots, but if you actually go there you will see that it is lightning and thundering like crazy...

There are many repeat shots here where the only difference is the windlight settings. I am uploading them anyway since it may interest people to see how big the difference is.

Last time I threw a party like this one here was probably 20 years ago ;-). So, I am glad that it went very well. Thanks to all who came and shared the day with CapCat and the tribe.

Oh and, can everyone who sees themselves in these photos please add themselves? Sorry about that folks, but I cannot for the life of me remember what you were all wearing... :-\

Trying to enter the burnt out area in Apocalypse.

The Nidhogg is a highly evil mythological creature in that it is the dragon that perpetually chews at the roots of the Tree of Life. Alpha is Nidhogg here, dressed in one of June Dion's spectacular costumes.

Although the clothing as well as what they represent is truly ominous, is Alpha herself in the Valley threshold? She is fully human and thanks to Loli Nori's Vampire skin quite a fetching one at that... So, is she repulsive or not?

There are almost identical shots here, to the point where I have two, in one of which Alpha's eyes are shut and one where they are open...

An unexpected Sunday morning delight: Bett had just been telling me about Eshi Otawara's building frenzy at Dirk Talamasca's sim Desperado. Apparently she has been rebuilding the sim every night. Just having returned I missed some great stuff obviously. However, this morning she invited us NPIRL'ers over to take a look. And here it is folks! WOW, right?

Radiant Falls in Winter - this is the fantastic winter version of our popular large 80m x 80m venue space. The first thing you notice as you rez the garden is the gently falling snow popping out of the rez box ahead of everything else! This adds a sparkle of magic to what goes on to be a really gorgeous garden. As the snow continues to fall it lightly dusts the tiled space. Bare branches, pretty soft lavender plants all add the wintery feel to the whole garden. This is a garden that needs to be viewed to be truly appreciated. slurl.com/secondlife/Ferndale/117/72/26

The mohawk which I recommend for this outfit is called "Thunderdrome". For me it is the mohawk amongst mohawks in SL. And you will need to put it on before you know all the reasons. It has been created by none other than the amazing Ms. Helena Stringer. Not only amazing for talent but also for generosity: She is giving away this beauty as a dollarbie texture tester at her store at Lyashko:

We seem to be outed: A lot of people seem to have already discovered the location of our shop, thanks to a wonderful blog post by Helena Stringer. So, although we still have a ways to go, here is the slurl to alpha.tribe:

The hair worn with this outfit is simply the best Mohawk in SL, I think. It can be obtained (as a dollarbie!!!) amongst the texture testers at Helena Stringer's store, the Mausoleum:

This very ambitious virtual architecture project is being developed by 2 of our students Bulut Sakçak and Fethi Özdol.

A vastly scaled down version rezzed in a sandbox, this building generates itself depending upon its usage at the time and the number of its users... Modules generate themselves above and to the sides of the spiral construct, which is in a perpetual state of slow rotation btw, depending on user numbers and need. Crowded days will see a much larger building, quiet days a smaller one...

This time Alpha is a siren, yet another not-so-desirable female archetype. She is a mixture of fish, zebra and human. I will also be trying out the golden ocelot skin with this one. She does look like the sort of female that not much good can be expected from I must say... However, does she fall into the Valley?

I got the siren assembly kit at Grendel's and practically re-did an avatar using Flea Bussy's prims. The original avatar has always seemed somewhat meager to me in terms of fins and so on. Here, I multiplied each fin by at least 8 and re-attached the same bunch to spine, pelvis and stomach. The Zebra skin came today as a present from Vry Offcourse, who incidentally, is one of my acquaintances in SL. We met through my photos of the Ocelot skin and we have been sporadically keeping up ever since - a state of affiars soon to improve I hope: Turns out Vry and I are colleagues. She too is a graphic designer. So, as soon as this work frenzy of mine is over we will get together and hang out a bit; comparing our taste in fonts no doubt... hhhh

I found these buried somewhere in my hard drive. I have given some thought as to why the newbie avatar is so undescribably ugly and have finally come to the conclusion that this is in all likelihood a deliberate strategy to bolster metaverse economy. You look so dreadful that you scramble to lay your hands on some lollies and make it to the nearest skin shop before you even take a breather.

The shape is actually pretty much the same as it is today: The minute I walked into Orientation Island I screamed "Where's the appearance tab?" (hhhhhhh). I knew my way around Poser quite well, so it took me about 10 minutes to create the shape that I still have today. I scrambled out of that dreadful lilac t shirt and those gray flipflops pretty swiftly too I must say, made me a stretch black jumpsuit and boots pronto pronto. The hair was the biggest challenge: I was most certainly not going to wander around with that brown cardboard contraption that Linden Labs deems fit to bestow noob avatars with! It took me a while (like 2 hours once on the mainland? - hhhh) to cotton on to "flexi hair" and a bit more to land in the first freebie paradise where they were giving some away. But until then I made a close fitting crop, and this too I still use as a base for all the flexi stuff. But the skin... Let us please not even go into that: Unbaked bread loaf maybe?

I was not going to put these on Flickr but Hack challenged me into it earlier this evening: "Feigling!" he said. So, here they are for tout le monde to see...

Up until about 800 years ago Turks were nomads, living on the plains of Central Asia. So, contrary to popular misconception, we are not a middle eastern/Arabic culture but an oriental one; the closest linguistic relatives being Korean and Japanese. And apparently my own looks kick back to a great grandfather from Bukhara...

So, what better dwelling than a tent for a virtual nomad?

This one is from Angry Monkey, although I changed all of the original textures. Those were quite nice too but not exactly right for Syncretia.

A full set of belly-dance silks (+ some very nice sculpty high heel sandals and hair) available now at alpha.tribe:
