More than 50 artists for Tirúa, Chile
Camera in hand, some pointed to the loss and destruction left by the earthquake. Others chose photographs that doesn’t portray the country, but they radiate hope and rebirth. “POR CHILE” an initiative by Citypulse, born as an emotional message, which draws together the work of over 50 artists, photographers, video-makers and musicians. How? In a CD with music and video art, and a book with 37 pictures and short texts. Both are now on sale via the website (www.porchile.net). And all proceeds will go to Tirúa (VIII Region), ravaged by a giant wave.
The publication is divided into chapters with titles that go from "Fracture" to "The next morning," and ends with "Life finds its way." And the images are accompanied by messages designed by the same photographers or, in some cases, by the Chilean writer Carlos Tromben. "The book is sustained by honest portraits. It just tries to show a positive and hopeful view to a country in pain", says Sebastian Utreras, Chilean, who made a documentary photograph. We see a man in Curepto, five days after the great earthquake: he was breaking down the only piece that remained of his home.
Photographer Jon Jacobsen says: "I loved the project, because it doesn’t takes directly the pain of the earthquake, there are just a few catastrophic scenes. Instead, it brings together the feeling that world had about what happened in Chile, and when you see the result you have a sense of peace". He composed a surreal image based on the view that he had after watching boats in the middle of Talcahuano streets. He made it with a fisherman holding little wooden boats. "I tried to pass the only answer that man could give: start over. But instead of being sad, he has all the power of the world," Jacobsen closed.
UNDERGROUND EXHIBITION
Citypulse will display the photographs of the book in 10 subway stations at large format. It will rotate until completing the entire book.

About RWR
READ/WRITE REALITY (RWR) is an intensive and visionary workshop created by FakePress Publishing and Art is Open Source (AOS) in collaboration with Centro Studi Etnografia Digitale to pragmatically explore the methodological, technical and technological possibilities offered by Ubiquitous Publishing. The first edition of RWR was held on September 2011 in Cava de’ Tirreni (Salerno, Italy), at the Ostello “Borgo Scacciaventi”.
The result of the workshop was an Augmented Reality Movie created by a wonderful group of 35 people from allover the world, in a complete hand-to-hand process.

Throughout the country sections with their many steep stretches we had a diesel loco attached as a pilot. We were able to detach it for short run pasts so the video makers could see a complete steam-hauled train pass. Here at the triangular Perandeniya junction station our train reversed for the short trip up to Kandy.
