Spent way too long trying to make a video that ended up not working out, so go me!

2016 was such a roller coaster type of year. So many downs, crazy loops and a little ups. Gained a few family members, lost a couple and somehow got a job without even trying. I turned 21, still haven't had an alcoholic drink. I'm very happy about that tbh.

It was insane, I'm seeing 2016 as the worst year and the only way to go now is up. I hope 2017 brings many adventures and things get better.

I spent most of my new year's eve shopping and hanging out at home. *thumbs up emoji* and spent a good amount of time before midnight waiting for my phone to upload pictures into an video maker app I ended up deleting. Also watched Mariah Carey bomb at the news years eve performance.

RIP Sushant Singh Rajput: The rising star who made a successful transition from TV to films

As the shocking news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death broke, the film fraternity mourned the life of a talented actor cut short. He was found hanging at his residence in Mumbai on Sunday. DCP Pranay Ashok, the spokesperson of Mumbai Police, said that the police are investigating and have not found any note yet.

Despite ranking seventh in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), Sushant was more inclined towards a career in the arc lights than engineering. He dropped out of engineering college in his third year and joined Nadira Babbar’s theatre group Ekjute, performing in plays for two and a half years.

This particular piece of Swinging Sixties commercialization holds a two-fold place in my heart: along with the obvious subject of lifting, it also crosses over into vintage cameras - something of which I collect and am constantly educating myself on. This is for both the traditional photo-taking cameras as well as the 8mm video makers which lacked audio when shooting. While most of the ones I acquire are in restorable condition, I buy them more for the mechanical aesthetic they provide. I, in fact, have this particular camera on my display shelf, right along with the attachable handle which allows the user an easier hold while filming.

In my previous post, involving travelers cheques with a group of misfits relieving a middle aged man of his wallet, the scene provided had some room for plausibility. There are a number of examples where a group of thieves surround their mark, the stalls distracting the target while the canon does his or her thing and picks their pocket clean. However, the image in this ad, while attractive on the surface, does feel more staged. The embrace between man and woman is easy on the eyes, as are the models for both sexes, but the lift itself doesn't come off as authentic. First of all, if you've ever hefted this particular camera, it has significant weight; carried in the side pocket of a suit jacket, not only would it sag and possibly cause a rip in the lining, but the person carrying it could easily feel it being taken. Plus, look at the position of her hand as she's sneaking the camera out.... it's practically under his elbow! Looking at this photo, I can almost hear the photographer yell out, "Make sure the camera is far enough out of his pocket to be seen!" For her sake, if she wants that camera badly enough, I hope that camera is far enough above the lip of his pocket. (Laughs)

Don't get me wrong: I do appreciate any company, any product and/or any actors who use pickpocketing in advertising. It can be done with a vast variety of items, with said items being lifted, picked or stolen in so many ways. If I'd been the one directing this production, I would have shot it outdoors, the gorgeous models each wearing trench coats. He's in the same position, back slightly turned as he's holding her. The collar of her trench coat is turned up, slightly hiding her face but enough where you see her smile mischievously. His coat is untied, allowing her to slip her hand in the pocket holding the camera without him feeling it being removed. I can speak from experience that such pockets can be easily picked; such things like a full wallet or a woman's clutch can be taken out of such a pocket, regardless of weight!

Well, this was a video made of 3 things. First, it was me, jus' testing my ability with the video camera feature on Joey.

Secondly, once i saw said video on my computer, i decided to also finally try the video maker on my computer...

and thirdly...seeing as how i was ALONE YET AGAIN, while making this video, I realized...my only friends...are bugs and flower's. How pathetic am i to have those as friend's? I can't even keep a single REAL friend to save my life..oh, also, i know it's sorta crappy, but it truly IS my very first video..specially one with music to it..so please..tell me what you think...be mean..though hopefully you won't go too crazy...

PS: YES! that is my finger..being a dork and trying to get the courage up to touching it...or any bug...it didn't work. XD

This photo was initially published in my local photo blog about the citizens of my area in Montréal. quartiersnord.photos/les-gens-the-people/

There are people who may just be passing by a place, but will leave tangible, durable traces. Let me tell you about my meeting with Sébastien. He is the G in the BGL Contemporary art collective.

I had been very impressed with the model presented by BGL for their public art work project entitled "La vélocité des lieux" (the velocity of the place) when I saw it on display in the lobby of the Maison communautaire et culturelle de Montréal-Nord. This object, interesting in itself, announced a magnificent project. I therefore undertook to periodically document its construction during the summer of 2015.

I met Sebastien by chance on a scorching Wednesday when I arrived on the site to take progress photos. As in previous visits, I saw that a group of people was actively working on the construction. I noted that there was also this time a small team of video makers. I figured that the artists would be there for the shooting. Sure enough, when I approached the group, I was told that it was the case. His two partners, Jasmin and Nicolas, being up on the platform of a man lift, Sébastien kindly gave me a few minutes of his time.

In June 2012, the trio, which is well known on the national art scene, received an invitation, along with nearly 200 other artists, from the Public Art Bureau of the City of Montreal. Artists were asked to participate in a Canada-wide competition for the integration of a public art work at the crossroads of Henri-Bourassa East and Pie-IX boulevards. In October of that year, BGL received confirmation that their proposal was one of the five selected for the second phase of the contest. At this point, they had carved the first three-dimensional draft of the project out of cardboard with exacto knifes. In February 2013, three finalists were selected and were given a budget for the development of a pre-production mock-up of their proposed work. BGL’s very accurate model was elaborated by computer and provided a realistic rendering of materials. The members of BGL were ultimately proclaimed winners of the competition.

As their name is prominent in the Canadian Visual Arts world and since they are well represented in the major visual art collections, I thought, wrongly, that the group had previously won its share of public art competitions. Sébastien told me that to the contrary, after many failures, they had virtually pulled-back from such activities given the time and resources invested for meager results.

It is Nicolas, the only member of BGL based in Montreal, who is following the daily progress of the installation. BGL is in good company to make this happen. The group is supported by Boris Dempsey for the technical design and production of the work. It was he who suggested the entrepreneur who carries out the installation work that requires heavy machinery. In the end, many people will have contributed to this project, which also required the cooperation of many professionals from the Borough, the Central City administration and the MTQ. From the fairly substantial budget commanded by the nature of the project, far less will remain in the hands of the artists than the populist comments in the Journal de Montréal may suggest.

The work will be inaugurated on September 19th. I am convinced that “La vélocité des lieux” will become a lasting cultural and geographical landmark of Montreal-North.

Fancy; you're revealed! Ok, ok; I told her to do so and I fast got up my camera... I'm a Bad girl xD << Gosh; you're the best video maker ever; Sophie!

Wired Next Fest - Milan

I wrote this to post it live... but then I scared myself as I sometimes do... in a good way... by possibly putting to much of my mad schmack future vision in it. Perhaps I'll just post it here (just for core mefeedia members) and then revise it for public posting on evilvlog or mmeiser.com later... The good thing about this sort of stuff... is I know it will draw the right kind of attention to mefeedia... the bad thing.... is that I always wonder just how much of our vision should we share? It's such a very, very tough question... I personally believe the vision is the glory... but it has no merits without the execution... and therefore share at will... BUT... the majority of the planet is far more conservative then I. Well... enjoy! (I hope. :)

First of all a special thanks to Devlon (of Mefeedia of course) for all the hard work.

Thanks to him and Peter too (who's currently backpacking around Thailand, leaving us here to be evil. :) the mefeedia personal user's feed is coming along very swimmingly...

The one thing that bugs me is the artist info had to be put IN the title of the post... For example:

Steve Garfield's Video B... You're that Videoblogging Guy"

And of course we had to truncate it because some of blog titles are REALLY long.... The reason we had to do this is because while there is an iTunes "artists" field and a mRSS (media RSS) "artist" field applications like DTV and FireANT don't show the "artist" info they just show the primary RSS "Channel" title for every post and it makes it darn confusing because you don't know what vlog the posts originally came from.

Hopefully this fix of putting the artist in the post title will only be temporary as we'll be trying to work with the great people at FireANT and DTV to improve meta data display. It's a little bit of an uphill battle because we are fortunately or unfortunately the only one out there creating this sort of "personal subscription feed" in this space... but based on what I've seen with services like Odeo, Rojo, and Bloglines and Digg... I think these sort of aggregate user feeds are going to get pretty damn common and very damn hot in the new personal media space as well.

I say this openly because it's no secrete that services are moving in this direction. Even technoratti offers aggregate feeds like this... it's par for the course of media... the difference is they're piping text.. and Odeo is piping audio through their personal user feeds... a personal "radio station" of sorts which is VERY cool... but we're allowing to create your own personal "TV channel" based on your subscriptions... "TV channel" is not technically accurate... more of a metaphor, but a good one metaphor... you... might think of it as some sort of future packet driven version of media... perhaps the thing that IPTV was hyped to be... but never really materialized as... while this.. for all my B.S. is what I think the future of "TV" will be... but we're not calling it "TV" we're calling it "video blogging", "vlogging" or "video podcasting"... because in fact it's soo... completely different than TV that to call it TV would be a complete misnomer.

But back on point... precisely what we're doing is we're allowing you to get ALL your subscriptions in one place... so you can view them in one stream... one channel... and either watch it right in Mefeedia... or in any RSS compatible video aggregator. As mentioned I've created this particular channel of subscriptions especially for watching on my iPod.... 99% of it is video ipod compatible.

Now, my only other personal concern with this RSS is preserving the integrity of the original data...

The title is in need of some spaces... for example...

"SteveGarfield'sVideoB...: You'rethatVideobloggingGuy"

should be

"Steve Garfield's Video B... You're that Videoblogging Guy"

...and it would be great if we could retain the entire original post data complete with links... Currently it's limited to about one paragraph and all links and formatting are removed.

Oh! BTW... the "Read more..." links are the links directly to the video. VERY cool.

You can check it out at the following url though it may not look as pretty as in Safari... :)

mefeedia.com/queue/10783/rss2.xml

This is one of my many personal user feeds on mefeedia... as mentioned (three times now :) it contains only my iPod compatible subscriptions.

One final note.... that number 10783... it's got to go... it's got to become my user name... in this case mmeiserpod... it's not a beautiful url. It were a really beautiful url it'd be

mefeedia.com/queue/mmeiser/rss/

or better

mefeedia.com/mmeiser/rss/

But it's a beta... and that stuff is certainly going to be changing as services evolve... like as mefeedia ads multiple queues and who knows what. Anyway... enough of the details for a bit...

Big picture stuff....

Just imagine... one day hopefully sooner than later I'll be able to have this on not just my ipod... but my wifi connected Nokia 770 or PSP.... or my cell phone... well technically i can view the RSS on my cell phone now... but what I mean... is that perhaps one day those videos which are linked to will be in stream-able 3ivx format... playable within a click or two of my opening my cell phone.

All my friends and my personal media... right there... ready to play within a click... on demand... when ever I want.

That my friends is a "hare better" than clicking around a cell phone interface for 20 minutes to find old episodes of Night Rider... or yesterday's baseball game... because...

a) it's all right there... on demand latest content first...

b) it's all YOUR personal subscriptions...

c) it's ubiquitous... you can or will be able to access it simultaneously from multiple places including your cell... your Tivo... mefeedia.com... perhaps your PSP... your iPod... who knows where it'll go...

I just hope mefeedia is the first one to realize this dream... because... well... it's all about the fuscking execution... no two people or companies would approach it a like... and I'd like to think... that we've got an advance on just how it is this is going to be executed best because quite frankly it's our vision we came up with it. And as a wise man once said... what's important is not the idea... but it's the people who have them that's important and how the ideas evolve as they're executed.

But anyway... it sort of makes you wonder why you'd want to pay your cell provider $10-15 a month for "premium content" when you can just pay your cell company for bandwidth and watch watch YOUR favorite web based vlogs anytime you like... sort of makes you say... hmmmmmm..... :)

Oooh, I see so much potential here...

But then everyone knows I'm mad... so just pay no attention to me... none at all. Pay no attention to the people standing behind the curtain... just enjoy the media... that's why we're all doing this anyway... the cornucopia of creativity... it's not about the how... it's about the what... the how is my personal obsession... my obsession to enable the "what" that I love so damn much.

The what is the cornucopia of creativity... the "how" is just trying to get everything else out of the way so the torrent of creative media can flow... we're breaking open the flood gates of a new whole new frontier, a whole new renaissance of media... the only question is really... how fast can we break open these flood gates? How can we give everyone access? ...and how can we keep from drowning in the torrent of creative media that is already starting to flow? Those are... as my friend Raymond of dltq.com would say... the questions. Don't lose them.

Oh... and there is one more... I guess... it's more core... and more high level... it's very dry... you've been forewarned...

How will the widespread access to mass communications change society and culture?

I leave it to you to think about that... it's the big question.

Oh... one more piece of smack... some big vision...

Perhaps... mefeedia will be the CNN or MTV of IP based media... perhaps we will fulfill the promise of Current TV where Current TV failed.

Perhaps... we like the success of the CNN network will reflect perfectly... will grasp the properties of this new network perfectly to allow for a new media network to be built... and perhaps... this new network of media... is SUPPOSED to be based upon an open meta network... a network which allows anyone to create their OWN personal channel out of thousands and eventually millions of channels of subscriber based media which anyone video maker can create...

Perhaps instead of reality based TV this new revolutionary new medium... will be you friends... your family... and instead of just being on the TV screen... it'll come through your cell phone... directly to your network enabled video ipod or PSP... you Tivo, or Akimbo... Perhaps this revolutionary new network will work because it's an architecture based on open access.... and at the center of that network will be services like mefeedia... architected to make sense of it all... architected to get that media everywhere... architected to further enhance communications... here's the catch... the secrete... to enable radically new methods for monetization... not based on anything we've seen before in media. No more "packaged deals" no more "paying for channels"... no more buying plastic discs.

Anyway... it's all just B.S. schmack... pay no attention to it... what's important to the other 99.999% of the world is the media ... the great content... we're just trying to... get the interfaces the fuck out of the way.... Like Leonardo (I think) once said... the form is already in the marble... we just try to see it and reveal it...

This is precisely what we're doing with webservices... some might thing we're inventing something new... but we are in fact realizing and revealing the architecture that is already inherent in the internet... these capabilities were already inherent in the basic architecture of the internet from day one... we just needed to add a little capacity and spend about 20 year (so far) peeling away the layers to reveal it's form.... This is the same thing CNN did they realized the message within the satellite network... it was global... 24 hour access... for them news..... For us it will be global 24 hour on demand access to OUR media... Our friends... or family... or social network of friends... of niche materials... yeah sure they'll be some mainstream content in there... but this will be defined by a whole new revolution in control and access.

Peace, Mike

Graphics and Figurs for 3D Anaglyph Makers. Dear 3D Anaglyph friends : Three years ago, I was amazed at the 3D analglyph photos. I have then bought 3D eye glasses both from Turkey and US to view those; although these glasses were okay, the 3D glasses which I attempted to produce myself here in Turkey yielded better viewing performance then these 3D glasses I purchased. Following that I started to generate my own 3D photos and animations. In my studies, I mostly used scenes from nature and urban city sceneries.

In taking my photos, different from what others had done till now, I pursued an apprach on having better depth perception for objects located at far distances. Briefly I can explain this as follows: According to my observations, depth becomes a critical factor when taking photos of objects located at far distances (such as mountains). When I take my photos, according to the distance of the object that I am interested in at the farther end of the field of view, I set the distance between the two camera locations accordingly. That is, to get a better depth perception, one should set the distance between the two camera locations according to the distance of the object of interest in the field of view. So far, I have seen that people use a fixed camera setup where the two cameras are very close to each other (about 5 to 10 cm), in a way imitating the two eyes in humans. However, I have observed that taking photos with this fixed setup reduces the depth perception for far distance located objects, and thus there is a need to adjust the distance between the two camera locations by widening this gap accordingly. Similarly, When recording 3D videos, this distance also needs to be adjusted just like the way I described in taking photos.

I believe it would be great to create an environment either in internet or perhaps via a physical gathering for people like us who are interested in 3D anaglyph photos. In this way, everyone gets technical information from each other and can pass their experiences to each other, also in this way, we can have a friendly discussion environment in related areas such as 3D TV and 3D movies.

Mehmet Ayhan

Sculpture - 'Jet Set Giraffe'

Located on Colchester Zoo's Tugela BBQ Terrace! A 7.5m giraffe, all the way from Monaco has become a part of our Stand Tall for Giraffe’s campaign!

Installation of the sculpture known as ‘Jet Set Giraffe’ started on the 7th May and is expected to be commissioned by the 17th May. ‘Jet Set Giraffe’ will be the 30th sculpture in the Stand Tall trail and will remain in position at Colchester Zoo after the public art trail finishes in the summer.

‘Jet Set Giraffe’ was made by a multimedia artist named Patrick Mimran (Paris, 1956). Patrick Mimran is a well known photographer, painter, sculptor, video maker, arranger of digital images and music composer, he is also known for his Billboard Project, a series of posters on which he displays caustic remarks in public space.

Patrick Mimran says “I did the Jet set Giraffe as a Satire of our present society where the appearance is more important than the content. This is as true for the many people as it is also true for many contemporary art forms and artists. So as for many of my creations Jet Set giraffe is just a personal humoristical perception of our times; which if it can bring to the persons who will look at it a moment of joy, fun and evasion will completely fulfil my ambition of being an artist”

Jet Set Giraffe cannot be missed, standing at 7.5m, you will be sure to see the giraffe ‘Standing Tall’ on your next visit!

Scarborough’s Black Knight is currently stabled in the lobby of Toronto’s City Hall. The real-life sized statue of a young black girl riding a jet-black unicorn is the first thing you see entering the Building.

The statue is built from 80,000 individual black Lego bricks. Named Cavalier Noir (the Black Knight), it answers the question, “If Scarborough was to commemorate its own heroes, what would the monument look like?”

Created by two Scarborough stars - artist Ekow Nimako and video maker Director X – they say the Lego statue “stands as an emblem of hope for the disenfranchised by drawing on hip-hop’s creative strategies: taking existing, discarded, often overlooked elements and flipping them to inspire and amplify voices of the oppressed.”

Originally put on display in the Scarborough Civic Centre with TD Bank funding, the work of art is now in downtown Toronto. A description panel says that it shows “a black child warrior astride a dauntless black unicorn”. Cavalier Noir

What this is about: The concept of this video is basically about identity and what people see and can't see and what makes someone who they are. It uses the metaphor of Jeanne Siaud-Facchin, a French Psychologist, who's worked a lot on gifted children and adults. She made the comparison between them and zebras. This is my first experience as a video maker and set designer. I played a lot with contrasts to separate the two different worlds (the one people see and can't see) using different lighting, colour scheme, framing of the camera, furniture and styles of architecture. Here the setting serves as a character that tells its own story.

Lecture performance ‘Folgen’ by Michelle Teran.

Michelle Teran (CA) presented ‘Folgen’, a 45-minute lecture performance drawing on the existing narratives of video makers found on YouTube to build a multi-layered media landscape of Berlin. Teran’s subjective approach, which weaves together mapping, literature and live performance, combines fragments of images and sound from YouTube videos with her own narration, using the traces video makers have left in the public sphere of the internet to follow people throughout the city. Through this process, the city becomes a place to be inhabited and experienced through another’s narrative — stepping into somebody else’s shoes. The performance is a deliberate mixing between reality and fiction, an interweaving narrative about desire. The many protagonists involved in the making of the work create the stories told during the performance.

The German word ‘Folgen’ has several meanings. As a verb it means ‘to follow’, while as a noun it refers to episodes, consequences, implications or effects. The project draws on several meanings of the word. The act of following someone or something builds up a collection of stories, pieced together in different orders and variations. Concurrently, both the disclosure and the act of following personal information towards its geographical source has unanticipated effects and consequences.

The Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy was an association football competition that took place twice, in Turin, Italy, in 1909 and 1911. It is regarded as an early European trophy.

It is predated by the Torneo Internazionale Stampa Sportiva, which was hosted in 1908 in Turin, and the Football World Championship, which took place between 1887 and 1902. Also seen as an international competition, but with the noted lack of an England team, Lipton in partnership with the Italian royal family, wanted to go one further and make a more complete tournament. While the actual FIFA World Cup features international teams from around the world, the Lipton Cup, an invitational, only featured a few club sides from Europe.

Overview

Italy, Germany and Switzerland sent their most prestigious club sides to the competition, but The Football Association of England refused to be associated with it and declined the offer to send a team. Not wishing to have England unrepresented in the competition, Thomas Lipton invited West Auckland FC, an amateur side from County Durham and mostly made up of coal miners, to take part. The reason why this team was selected is unknown, although contemporary Italian reports of the team's achievements in the Northern League suggest confusion with the more successful Bishop Auckland. Reports that it was intended to send Woolwich Arsenal, but that West Auckland were invited instead as they shared the same initials, are unlikely to be true; Italian reporting shows they were expecting a team from the Northern League.

West Auckland won the tournament and returned to Italy in 1911 to defend their title. In this second competition, West Auckland beat the then amateur team Juventus 6–1 in the final, and were awarded the trophy outright. The development of football on other continents: Asia, Africa and the Americas was not very advanced and Europe was where the major football was happening.

In January 1994 the original trophy, which was being held in West Auckland Working Men's Club, was stolen. An exact replica of the original trophy was commissioned and is now held by West Auckland FC.

In popular culture

Moving Adverts of Dubai has worked with video maker Rob Kilburn on an account of the story, Our Cup of Tea.

Tyne Tees Television produced a dramatisation of the story in 1982, The World Cup: A Captain's Tale.

West Auckland Town Football Club is a football club from West Auckland, near Bishop Auckland in County Durham, England, competing in the Northern League, in the ninth tier of the English football league system. The club is most famous for being the winners of the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, one of the world's first international footballing competitions, twice, in 1909 and 1911.

History

Early

The club was founded as "West Auckland F.C." in 1893, and initially played in the Wear Valley League (1896–1900), South Durham Alliance (1900–05) and Mid Durham League (1905–08). In 1908 they joined the Northern League.

Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy

The Trophy was initiated by businessman and sporting enthusiast Sir Thomas Lipton, who wished to see a competition between the leading football clubs of Europe. The football associations of Italy, Germany and Switzerland duly complied, but the Football Association of England refused to nominate a club. West Auckland, a lowly amateur side of coalminers from the Northern League were entered into the competition, although it has never been entirely clear why.

One plausible explanation for West Auckland's entry was that an employee of Sir Thomas Lipton's had contacts in the Northern League and put out an appeal for a team to take the English spot. An alternative explanation, popular in the town itself, is that Lipton had wanted to send Woolwich Arsenal to the Championship – an instruction to his secretary to "contact W.A." led to West Auckland being mistakenly contacted. However, a review of the facts casts doubt on this theory; at the time Woolwich Arsenal had only just been promoted from the Second Division and were not the famous club they are today, being relatively small and unsuccessful compared to many other Football League sides. In addition, there is no documentary evidence to suggest any sort of link between Sir Thomas Lipton and Woolwich Arsenal, so it is unclear why he would have chosen them ahead of any other English team. Indeed, recent research clearly shows evidence that West Auckland were the expected team.

West Auckland with the Thomas Lipton Cup won in 1909

West Auckland duly made the journey to Turin, where the first tournament was being held, many of the players paying out of their own pocket to do so. They beat Sportfreunde Stuttgart in the semi-finals 2–0; in the final, on 12 April 1909, West Auckland faced Swiss side FC Winterthur and beat them 2–0 as well to take the trophy.

Two years later, West Auckland returned, and after beating FC Zürich 2–0, they ran out 6–1 winners in the final over future Italian giants Juventus. By the rules of competition, they were awarded the trophy to keep in perpetuity.

Upon their return home, the club was forced to pawn the trophy to the landlady of the local hotel because of financial problems. It remained with her family until 1960 when a village appeal raised money to return the cup to the club. The cup was then stolen in 1994 and despite the best efforts of local police and a £2,000 reward it was never found. An exact replica of the cup can now be found in a secure cabinet in the West Auckland Working Men's Club.

The story of the club's first success was turned into a television movie in 1982 – The World Cup: A Captain's Tale, produced by Tyne Tees Television and starring Dennis Waterman.

History after

Debts forced the club to leave the Northern League in 1912 and fold, although in 1914 it was reconstituted as "West Auckland Town F.C.", which remains to this day. Although it has never quite reached the same heights it did at the start of the 20th century, it did win the Northern League in 1960 and 1961, and were FA Amateur Cup runners-up in 1961, losing to Walthamstow Avenue. They still remain rivals with Bishop Auckland to this day. Having been founded in 1889, the Northern League is the oldest surviving league after The Football League.

In the 1998–99 season West Auckland reached the first round proper of the F.A. Cup for the third time with an away tie against Yeovil Town. After a 2–2 draw at Yeovil and a 1–1 draw at West Auckland, a penalty shoot-out saw Yeovil through. David Bayles took charge in the summer of 2005 and led the side to 5th place in his first season (2005–06) and then 6th place in the following season. 2007–08 began with an FA Cup run that saw West within minutes of a place in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup before defeat in a replay to Bamber Bridge. After his shock resignation, Lee Ellison had a short lived spell as manager before Phil Owers took over and steadied the side and led them to escape the drop zone. Owers departed early in the 2008–09 season with Brian Fairhurst appointed as the new player-manager. However, after 10 games without a win, Ray Gowan came in but even he was unable to arrest the slide and promptly resigned at the end of the campaign. West Auckland were able to retain their First Division status, however, due to Sunderland Nissan folding. The club then received the news that, to celebrate their centenary of winning the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, Juventus had agreed to a re-match in Italy, which the Italian club's under-20 team won 7–1. Shortly afterwards Hartlepool legend Brian Honour was appointed the new manager in the hot seat.

Fairhurst and his successor Wilf Constantine struggled to get West back on track and both had short lived spells in charge. For the third season in a row, a new manager was appointed – Peter Dixon arrived on 7 December 2009, swapping a promotion push with Crook for a relegation battle. West finished the season in 16th place despite having a −41 goal difference and 5 points from 19 matches when Dixon took the reins.

In both 2011–12 and 2013–14 West Auckland reached the final of the FA Vase, held at Wembley Stadium. In 2012 they lost 2–0 against fellow Northern League side Dunston UTS and two years later, lost 1–0 to Sholing with a deflected goal separating the sides whilst Jonathan Gibson hit the post in stoppage time. After Dixon's departure a difficult spell followed with several managerial appointments being short lived. In 2017–18 Gary Forrest joined the club; in the 2018–19 season West Auckland reached the FA Vase quarter-final before losing to Chertsey Town.

When I think about toilet seats I get nauseous, especially public ones. Just the thought of sitting where everyone else has sat is disgusting to me. Restrooms in general gross me out–the sink, the door knob, everything. I went to a small private school in high school and the only restroom the boys had was this really small, dark hole in the hall and the only reason anyone would ever use it was because they had to. It was lit by the light of a 40 watt bulb and for some reason it always smelled like Pine Sol and mothballs–it was weird. Anyway, I didn’t really have any friends in high school, so many times during the day I would just go in there and hang out for long periods of time waiting until the school day was over. One time one of the guys in my class got suspicious and pointed out that I was spending an awful lot of time in the bathroom, but I just pretended like I wasn’t feeling well and he let it go. After school every day I’d usually just go home and watch something on TV until bedtime. A couple of years later I graduated, went to college and that pretty much brings us all up to speed I think.
