Taken for Active Assignment Weekly - There is more I do besides photography

Well, I know this isn't very special compared to some of the tremendous submissions this week, but it's what I do in my spare time, besides photography. I wanted to do something in my classroom, but just didn't get the chance, and I have done family submissions before so I went with something different. This is me playing Battlefield 3, my favorite game ever!

New from our BrickScreen line of products:

You can load your own videos onto this 2.4" self-contained video player-- just connect to your computer and copy your video files. Up to 30 minutes of video can be stored. The screen also has a volume memory function with saved volume settings even when the power is turned off.

I was initially quite disappointed to see that Flickr had added the ability to do video. I personally think when one specializes and does it better than anyone else there's no reason to attempt to capture greater market share by splitting one's focus.

I watched maybe five videos on Flickr and overall I just didn't really understand the point.

Then tonight I was thinking again about their addition of video (and how can you not when it's on every news site and headline aggregator?) and really thought about their concept of "long photos" and realized that I could actually accept it.

One of my favorite things when I'm talking photography with someone is to open up iPhoto because the only things I keep in there nowadays are 'before and after' shots of things I've uploaded to Flickr. I have no shame in about the fact that I use Photoshop and I'm always happy to show someone what I do or have done.

Tonight I realized there's no reason I couldn't do that for all of my friends on Flickr.

So hey, if you're bored, here's a quick video of some 'before and after'. It's not super high-res, that's not the point. The point is ... hell, I don't know what the point is.

To show that I'm not doing anything special? To illustrate how sometimes a simple crop and color balance adjustment can transform something mundane into something ... less mundane? To find some other way to talk about my photos not acutally being anything special?

I don't know what I'm trying to say with this video other than, "here, watch the things I've done, you know, if you want." Who knows how I'll feel about this tomorrow?

EDIT: and of course the video ran just a little too long, so it's cut off, but whatever, I'm not going back and making this all over.

Please excuse my nasaly talking / heavy breathing, I might have a slight cold... I don't think it's actually noticeable.

EDIT: Sorry this video gets cut off, not sure what happened...

I've been off flickr for a while... I promise I had a good reason! Anyway, here I am back. As an experiment, I decided to try to post a video clip to present my next pictures set from Amsterdam. It's good fun playing with video editing software, but it's quite clear the old iPhone 3GS I had doesn't offer great quality... What do you think about the result?

I was asked if I would document the 44 hours visual arts live performance at the Odyssey sim on May 28-30. This was highly interesting and the result is three videos which I hope catched at least part of the extensive range of works presented.

The first part focus a bit more on a few of the visitors at the performance whereas part two and three will show more of the amazing artwork and effects.

Performance by Bendix Freutel (Eifachfilm Vacirca d-oob) in Second Life and in Kunst-Fenster Reigoldswil (Switzerland). And joined by a number of in-world artists during the course of events.

Marbella pre property video. ( Bit of fun) We seem to spend more time getting properties ready for Video , than the production of the videos themselves. Because at this point feel unable to manipulate the image quite as easily as you can with a still RAW file.

My first snooting experiment. Jordan Cronenweth, cinematographer on Blade Runner, said it's just as important where you don't put light, as it is where you do. Controlling spill was difficult but a good learning experience.

430EX behind the monitor bounced off a sheet of white paper resting on the monitor and snooted with bits lying around like DVD cases. And a 430EX to the left behind subject fired through a 60cm postal tube (resting on a camera tripod) to provide the rim light. Both fired with a 580EXii.

If I had another 430EX, I would've placed it on the right behind the subject.
