Very early morning close to the Hochmölbinghütte where I stayed over night. It was a great moment when I heard the deer and the blackcock (Birkhahn).

very late this year!

1927 Bugatti Type 38 A Touring with body by Joseph (Giuseppe) Figoni (8 years before he joined with businessman Ovidio Falaschi to form the celebrated Art Deco team of Figoni & Falaschi). It is probably the first Figoni design on a Bugatti.

Bugatti launched its Type 38 in 1926 and had style, engineering, and exceptional performance. Bugatti built 387 examples, but only 54 were supercharged, as in this case. The more desirable supercharged cars were called the 38A and featured a slightly extended hood, increased brake diameter and a few other subtle upgrades. Powered by a 2.0-liter, 8-cylinder engine, the design features graceful proportions and several distinguishing characteristics such as the polished aluminum body cappings and flowing wings. There is a folding two-pane windscreen and twin rear-mounted spare wheels.

This car was delivered new in Paris but resided primarily in Cheshire, England, and San Francisco, California. While being respectfully restored in 2005 in France, Figoni's son was able to inspect and authenticate his father's craftsmanship. This car maintains its original chassis, radiator and even the frame timbers, and in 2012, it received the correct 'blower,' returning the engine to the original 1927 configuration.

In 2012 it sold for $495,000, probably a bargain considering its significance and rarity......pocket change for some of you out there...........................

And very likely my last one. Giving my bicycles this Italian title with its female gender dates back to my youth when I was a keen cyclist taking part in road races. I had a number of racing bikes, but the Italian ones (Cinelli, Basso Loto) were always special. Now, I am using an ordinary mountain bike - but look at the tyre! Fast and slick. Another survivor from the past.

Very curious loons. They swam straight to me as soon as they saw me. Checked me up and then swam away.

Very vocal eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) perched on a branch.

Bardzo głośna sójka (Garrulus glandarius) siedząca na gałęzi.

Very small heron of marshy, well-vegetated water bodies. Adult pale orangish brown or yellow, depending on the light, with a narrow dark cap. Juvenile darker above with pale feather edges. Can be inconspicuous in dense vegetation, but frequently makes short flights; on flying birds, note dark flight feathers contrasting with pale yellowish wing coverts. Typically quiet, but occasionally gives harsh grating calls when flushed. (eBird)

------------

We watched this bittern stealthily hunting along the bank of the lake. It expertly picked its way between the stems of the bamboo and other plants, but did not catch anything while we were there. A small and very quiet bird indeed.

This very long night exposure shows the ride we all take for granted. Now stuck at home for several weeks, any type of entertainment in the wee hours of the morning, when no one is likely to see someone. Some of us come out with a camera and tripod to fulfill our brain with some kind of joy.

A few helicopters are seen flashing their strobe lights in this composition. It was 34 degrees Fahrenheit when I came out at 3 AM (1.1 Celsius for the rest of the world) for this shot.

Some of the orange glow seen is from a sodium light in the driveway. Which I like the color cast that it gave some of this photo.

Very late day along the Shenandoah River south of Harpers Ferry.

This has got to be one of the noisiest waterways I know of, yet at other parts it can be so tranquil and peaceful. This is the stunningly beautiful River Etive as it flows through Glen Etive, many people come here by choice for white water rafting.

Bumblebee, seen in my garden - Enjoy!

I had a very early morning meeting, the advantage of which is that I saw the sun come up -- albeit briefly. Another day to breath; now be thankful (cue Fairport Convention right about now): www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXNM0dpHMq4 Musical factoid, Richard Thompson, one of the founders of Fairport Convention, which many credit as the main influence for what we now call Folk Rock, is the only performer I have seen live five times. He has not once disappointed me in a performance. The opportunity in Toronto to see him in a small venue with about 100 people is perhaps the highlight of my life in terms of live music performances.... He played for almost three hours and we soaked up every little bit of it.

Been very much on and off with my photography these days - and not from choice I might add! However, when I have managed to be active I've really enjoyed myself.

These white daisy chrysanths are from a bunch I treated myself to and I thought I'd set up a still life using one of my craft-paper backgrounds and some antique wedding lace . The very small cut glass vase is one I'd picked up from a charity shop.

The original pic was overall pale blue/turquoise , which I liked but decided in the end to post this post-processd image , which reduced the colour to almost nothing.

1st Winter Male

This migratory central Asiatic Wheatear occurs from the extreme southeast of Europe to China, and has been found wintering in India and northeastern Africa. It is a very rare vagrant to western Europe, this bird having been photographed in the UK.
