A very busy few days helping our son and his fiancée move out of their rental flat and in with us until they complete on their new home - should be a few weeks!!! In the meantime our daughter will be moving back here with her finacé in two weeks time pending finalisation of their new home purchase - our kids always were a tag team!!! After a year of being almost exclusively alone here with my husband during the pandemic the house is going to get a whole lot busier! Every single spare inch of space will be filled with their belongings!!!!
Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves on my images. Have a good weekend everyone!
Very nervous Red-spotted Purple butterfly taking a brief moment of rest on a Maple leaf during a stiff breeze.
Mimic of the poisonous Pipevine butterfly. Considered by some as the most beautiful butterfly in the area.
Uncommon and infrequently encountered. Shares sub species status with the White Admiral butterfly.

it seems very likely that St Anthony's Chapel was closely associated with Holyrood Abbey, which stood just a few hundred yards away to the north-west. The two were linked by a well-made stone track (now heavily worn) with prominent kerbstones that can in places still be seen, and about three quarters of the way along this track up to the chapel is the spring and carved stone bowl known as St Anthony's Well.
It's tempting to think of St Anthony's Chapel as an outlying chapel for Holyrood Abbey, perhaps constructed as a means of getting pilgrims out from under the feet of the monks in the abbey. It has also been suggested that the chapel served as a sort of religious beacon, designed to be clearly visible to sea-borne pilgrims coming to Holyrood Abbey as they sailed up the River Forth.
As for dating, there are references to a grant paid for repairs to St Anthony's Chapel by the Pope in 1426, suggesting the building could date back into the 1300s or beyond. Details of its demise are equally unclear, but presumably, like Holyrood Abbey itself, St Anthony's Chapel fell into disuse and disrepair after the Reformation in 1560.
Today, all that remains of the chapel are parts of the north wall plus remnants of another building a little to the south-west, which has sometimes been called a hermitage but was probably just a store room. The remaining chapel wall shows signs of vaulting, and it is thought that when complete the building would have comprised a small three-bay chapel, with a three-storey tower at its west end. This odd shape, almost as tall as it was long, supports the idea that the chapel was designed as much to ensure distant visibility as to accommodate worshippers.

We were very lucky to spot this black rhino early in the morning in this part of Masai Mara. The guides mentioned that this is not their usual territory. Apparently there is only about 54 of them in Masai Mara and it is an endangered species.
The black rhino is the rarer and smaller of Africa’s two rhino species. We distinguish it from the larger white rhino by its shape, diet and temperament. It is no more ‘black’, however, than its relative is white. Both species acquire their colour from the mud in which they wallow, so vary from brown to grey.
The main distinguishing feature is the shape of the upper lip. The Black Rhino has a pointy tipped upper lip whereas the White Rhino has a squarish upper lip.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites, awards and favs...it is always appreciated.

The Three Sisters in Canmore, the town’s most recognizable peaks and some of the most unique in Canadian Rockies. The Three Sisters are never getting old 😉. The names of the Three Sisters are individually known as Big Sister, Middle Sister, and Little Sister – or Faith, Hope, and Charity respectively. Went there twice, first time to check the location around sunset time, second time for sunrise, it was very dark in the early morning to walk there before sunrise… Head lights and bells were recommended. Several people arrived one after another, it was freezing cold, stayed for over two hours, from blue hour to golden hour… Closely contacted with three sisters. 😊

Very happy to have found this male woodpecker hammering away at this dead tree fairly close by. Took a few thousand shots only to get a handful where his face isn't buried into the tree!
Very elusive spending alot of time hidden in the reed bed, did eventually come out for a brief period late afternoon. Overcast dull & a little rain.

I discovered these remnants on the last steps to the dock, noting two or three more on the lake bottom, and then another two on the bank. Something had discovered and devoured an entire clutch of duck eggs. I have a nesting box by the shore near the dock and have seen ducks (mainly hooded mergansers) regularly inspect it, but the only birds I ever knew to use it were a pair of house swallows and that only once. Unbeknownst to me, it was apparently in use this year as these remains surrounded the site. A mystery as to what feasted on these eggs as there are numerous suspects.
This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Very Peri - Pantone's Color of the Year for 2022. It is one of those colors that works well in the background or in the shadows as it symbiotically brings out the beauty in other colors and other colors bring out the beauty in it. By itself, Very Peri is a calming color yet it has a slight bit of electricity in the right light. Who knows how 2022 will play out and I'm happy Pantone created Very Peri to take us forward.
HMMM and Happy New Year!
