COAST GUARD AWARDS RESPONSE BOAT-MEDIUM CONTRACT
WASHINGTON (23 June 2006) - The U. S. Coast Guard announced today the award of the Response Boat-Medium production contract valued at approximately $600 million to Marinette Marine Corporation of Marinette, Wis. Delivery of the first boat is expected in late 2007 and the Coast Guard expects to eventually purchase up to 180 boats over a period of up to eight years.
“The Response Boat-Medium will greatly improve Coast Guard readiness and responsiveness throughout the country,” said Commandant of the Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen. “With this faster and more capable platform, we are putting the right tool for the job in the hands of our people as they conduct a broad range of vital Coast Guard missions, including homeland security, search and rescue, and law enforcement. It's another significant step forward as we continue to prepare the Coast Guard to meet all threats and all hazards by modernizing our fleet of ships, boats, aircraft, and command and control systems.”
The Response Boat-Medium will replace the aging fleet of 41-foot utility boats and assorted non-standard boats that are in operation throughout the United States and have been the workhorse at coastal stations for more than 25 years. The new boats will have increased maneuverability, the ability to mount light machine guns, and be capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots (46 mph) with twin high output inboard diesel engines that comply with stringent EPA and International Maritime Organization emissions standards. A full cabin will provide crew protection from the elements and be equipped with a robust navigation system, heating and air conditioning, shock mitigating seats and a communication system capable of communicating with other federal, state and local homeland security partners.
The contract represents the culmination of a two-phased, competitive process that began in fiscal year 2003 when the Coast Guard awarded three contracts to vendors to provide test boats. Coast Guard members exhaustively tested these boats, and the three vendors then submitted proposals for the production contract, which were thoroughly evaluated before selecting Marinette Marine Corporation.

Karate for Kids Testimonial and Review
When my eight-year-old son first asked me if I would let him take Karate for Kids, I was a little worried. Karate seems so dangerous and I was concerned that my boy would end up injured. After talking with my husband, we agreed to give the program a chance and now we are so glad that we did.
First of all, I would like to state that Master Babin is wonderful with the children. While I was apprehensive that the Karate class would be all about fighting, I was relieved to learn that the focus was more on self-defense and moral values. Now my son is healthier than ever, doing an activity that he truly loves.
I would encourage every parent out there looking for a fun exercise-based activity for his or her child to participate in their Karate for Kids program a chance. My son is constantly talking about what he learned in his past karate lessons and practicing his blocks and punches in the living room. He is even playing his video games less.
After my initial reservations, I now cannot imagine my son participating in any other karate program. Consider this my highest recommendation.

Reviews on Karate for Kids
When my son started karate instruction with Karate for Kids, he was timid, had few friends and had trouble paying attention in school. I didn't agree with the doctor who tried to tell me he had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and that I should put him on medication to control it. To me, my son just needed some loving guidance, not to be medicated.
That is when I asked my good friend about her children's experiences with the local martial arts Instructor. Like my son, her children did not have a father figure in their lives and suffered greatly as the result. When they were approaching their teenage years, she decided to enroll them in karate at Karate For Kids Within a matter of weeks, I saw her pre-teen son and daughter become more confident, focused and goal-oriented and knew I wanted the same for my child.
After his very first lesson, my son, then aged nine, was already a changed child. He overflowed with enthusiasm as he explained how the karate for kids program pushed him to reach goals, but was "really nice" about it. To this mom, that means that my son finally got the caring, personal instruction that he deserves.
Thank you for such a fantastic Karate For Kids Program

Testimonial and Review on Martial Arts For Men
I am a forty-eight year old man and, until about four months ago, I had really let myself go. Between work-related stress and the other pressures of my day-to-day existence, I made little time for exercise and gave almost no thought to a healthy diet. In short, I was a mess.
One day, a colleague at my office took me aside and recommended that I sign up for the martial arts program offered locally. He had recently signed up for a class and loved it. After some convincing, I agreed to accompany him to his next class.
Fast-forward to today and I now love my martial arts training. Martial Arts for men workouts feels less like training and more like fun. I have been losing weight and now have a new energy when facing the daily grind. I have gone from one class a week to two, and am thinking of adding a third.
If you are looking for a fun way to get in shape, I would advise you to come on down our Martial Arts for Men Academy. You will not regret it.

Testimonial and Review on Martial Arts For Women
I never would have thought that taking up martial arts, would change me so much as a person and in so many ways. I still use every occasion to thank my friends, for recommending me the Martial Art courses for women taught by a martial arts school that teaches quality skill sets for women
I used to be a very shy person, and had become quite fearful after having my purse stolen one evening. Now, that is no longer the case. Since participating in the martial arts courses, I have felt more empowered than ever. I enjoyed the friendly and encouraging atmosphere right from the start, and did not feel ashamed of my initial clumsiness.
Now, I can actually impress my friends with some of the moves I learned. Also, I am fully aware that martial arts represent a life style just as much as anything else. My Instructor simply amazed all of us throughout the entire program, with his dedication and willingness to teach us. In fact, we could hardly wait for the next session.
I truly recommend anyone to make the same change I made in my life. Looking back, I really cannot see my weekly schedule without my martial arts training sessions.

Taking a martial arts class was not something I had given much consideration prior to turning 30. Wanting to preserve my strength and flexibility for years to come finally enticed me to take the plunge. The immediate results were stunning and I found myself feeling more energetic and confident in just a few sessions.
Not only are his martial arts skills top-notch, but I find his enthusiasm and enjoyment of the sport to be infectious. Considering that this entire venture was foreign to me, I felt right at home during my very first class. In addition to training in martial arts my instructor has a great deal of patience and warmth, the other karate students in the session were just as receptive to me. They really know how to make new members feel welcome.
Learning the forms and methods involved in martial arts is a great experience, but what makes these classes truly exceptional is that we learn how to incorporate the philosophy and principals behind this art form into our everyday lives. I look forward to my sessions with my instructor, and find his classes to be a great way to invest in myself, while having some fun at the same time. It is more than just kicking and punching it’s a well rounded martial arts program.
With Great Thanks,

River Dargle Flood Defence Scheme.
These images were taken during the third full week of July, 2016.
We took a trip down to the Harbour area, just to acquaint ourselves with the works here. This is a section of the flood protection scheme that I have pretty much ignored -- it's inconvenient for me to access, and others cover it much better.
Moving upriver slightly, to a newly constructed walkway, close to Seapoint Court. Nice work done by the guys from Wills Bros Ltd.
However the cynic in me wonders how long it will be before the local druggies shift locations. Although, perhaps it's a wee bit too exposed for them?
In the foreground is the Railway bridge, and in the distance we can see some construction works taking place on the Ravenswell Road, temporarily closed due to on-going works.
That is the site of the old Bray Golf Club -- hotly contested as a (potentially) poorly considered site for a shopping centre development complex, and still an area of ground that has to act as a flood plain in the event of tidal surges.
And in the background, the Irish Rail bridge.
This is Phase 1 of the flood defence works here. Phase 2 is scheduled for May-September 2017.
====================
"The main work items on the project consisted of the construction of a reinforced earth embankment with 11m long "cut-off Sheet pile wall" within this embankment and a 90m long Sheet Piled Retaining wall (15m long sheet piles) which were anchored for stability using 16.0m long anchors inclined at a various angles. This Sheet Piled Retaining wall was then clad with Granite Randon Rubble stone and resulted in an impressive 5.0m high stone wall along the river. A reinforced concrete flood defence wall complete with stone cladding was also constructed as well as erosion protection measures including underpinning and rock armour installation within the river during low tides. The scheme was completed with the construction of a footpath complete with railings and street lighting along the entire length."

Swans are ubiquitous to the Bray Harbour area. Year on year, the population grows, eagerly fed by willing visitors to the harbour strand front. It's a mutually-sustaining enterprise.

Fractal Production of Value: Transitioning From Real to Digital Value Structures
WATCH OUT! The value epidemic is here.
Note: I wrote this at some point in college and just recently found it while on the plane to MIT. It was first called “A Brief on Internet Architectures”. It was originally meant to be a sort of white paper on value creation online.
I miss this way of thinking. There will only be more like this. Better sourcing to appear soon. A short bibliography is thus:
Baudrillard’s “After the Orgy” was the basis of this article.
Rheingold, Howard. _Virtual Reality_. New York: Simon & Schuster,
1992, was also used.

From the Apartheid Musem in Johannesburg. Freedom, Respect, Democracy, Responsibility et al. rusting away.
My scrap attack values/bullseye quilt. I threw untrimmed blocks on the design wall as I had sewn them just to see how it will look.
Fabrics from grab bags, gifts, swaps and projects past.
Number 14 for 100 Flowers 2018
This camellia is a Higo variety. Vigorous, upright, evergreen shrub, valued for luxuriant rich green foliage and large light pink single flowers with a mass of splayed, golden stamens, often petaloid. Prefers sheltered position & well drained lime free soil.
I was tasked with designing icons to graphically convey our core values. They will be used as graphics during appropriate sermons, in training publications (ie - small group leaders' training manuals), etc. Top to bottom, left to right they are...
My biggest concern is that the contrast isn't significant enough (especially if they're sized down for printing purposes). Thoughts? This is still in the prelim stage, so any feedback is welcome.
No value PP time tonight - Washing machine went down for the count - I revived it so in that respect I'm good. Decided to print this about as tight as I can. Off to some fun - I hope!

7 November 2021, Kigoma, Tanzania - Fishermen unload fresh sprat from a boat in a landing site at the shore of the Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma, Tanzania.
Lake Tanganyika is the world’s second largest lake by volume with borders in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Zambia. Millions of people rely on the rich aquatic biodiversity reserves for food and income.
Yet, post-harvest losses caused by poor handling and processing techniques, as well as the impacts of climate change and poor fishing methods are threatening the future of fishing on the lake. Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a further cause of declining yields.
In Tanzania, FISH4ACP aims to strengthen and safeguard the sardine, sprat and perch value chains in Lake Tanganyika by investing in inclusive growth to bolster food security for future generations, reduce poverty and contribute to the conservation of natural resources.
FISH4CP is an initiative of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (OACPS) implemented by FAO with funding from the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Philanthropy is one of the core values that Blaine Bowen Jewelry was founded upon. Everyone in the BB "family" (as Blaine calls her employees) shares her call to action and change. She doesn't believe in just talking, she believes in doing and her employees happily follow suit. Blaine was first introduced to Unlikely Heroes a year ago and knew instantly it was an organization she wanted to contribute to. Blaine was moved by the work Erica Greve was leading through Unlikely Heroes and found herself compelled to aid their mission to end child trafficking. On Friday, November 3, Bowen was overjoyed to host the Unlikely Heroes Welcome Brunch for the hosts and special guests who had come into town for the Recognizing Heroes Gala the next evening. Everyone knows we do things bigger and better in Texas and Bowen showed these Hollywood stars how Dallas likes to party for a cause. The intimate soiree took place poolside at The Ritz Residences with bites prepared by Tillmans Roadhouse and a fabulous floral wall created by Todd Events. Bowen had her new holiday collection on display and guests were able to select their favorite apparel and jewelry designs as an early holiday gift. Notable attendees included Savannah Chrisley from the USA Network show “Chrisley Knows Best”, Mandy Teefey, Executive Producer of “13 Reasons Why” (and Selena Gomez' Mother), comedian Anjelah Johnson (better known as Bon Qui Qui, Catherine Lowe, Amy Havens and Courtney Kerr.

Note: it seems that Firefox Mac desaturates images and leaves a bit of pink in the whites. I haven't tested PC browsers, but I have discovered that Safari Mac has richer, more accurate color when compared locally to photoshop display.
