The purpose and value of bridges cannot be overstated. Any time an individual or group has had to halt a journey because of a canyon or swift flowing river with no way to cross over and the only option is to search for a way around the obstacle, the eventual construction of a bridge smooths the way forward. It can be as simple as a few wooden planks laid across a narrow ditch to an architectural wonder spanning a great body of water, such as the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. My collection of photos includes those simple structures that offer little afterthought to the crossing. In addition, there are photos taken of bridges that have been around and functioning for hundreds of years. Most people can reference a bridge that stands out for its magnificent profile, such as the Brooklyn Bridge that crosses the East River, or the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or the Ponte Vecchio over the River Arno in Florence, or...well, there are such bridges around the globe that are breathtaking to view, but most are only known locally and appreciated for just being a functional bridge. This album contains the first group of 10 bridges with many additional groups to follow. Most of these bridges I could pinpoint on a map, but some will include a caption that is nothing more than a shrug of my shoulders. If anyone should recognize a bridge's location, I would welcome such information.

Value is the lightness and darkness of a color. This picture contains four different lightness due to the shadow and the sunlight. I took in this composition to have several values in one shot.
