Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!
Seen in Treharris December 2012 now with VR Travel Merthyr Tydfil on local Sunday service this was new to North Lincolnshire Council Scunthorpe.
While attending a lawn bowling event at the Beamsville, Ontario lawn bowling club, as the sun was setting, I sat there looking at the sky above the hedge along the property line. It was one of those almost Golden Hour periods. Now, I have been looking at a number of books featuring work by notable colour photography pioneers and have begun to look at the world around me a bit differently as a result. This scene just called to me, likely as a result of some sub-conscious image from those earlier works. Likely not everyone’s cup-of-tea, but I like it. - JW

Tech Details:
Taken using hand-held Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm VR 1:4.0 lense set to 24mm, ISO100 (Auto ISO), Daylight WB, Matrix metering, Shutter Priority Mode, f/5.6, 1/320 sec with an EV-0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source: apply Tone Mapping at default levels, brighten overall by setting Exposure Compensation to EV+1.01, use the Graduated Neutral Density/GND tool rotated cover only the sky aera ans then darken the sky to better match the lower part of the image, use the Shadows/Highlights tool to recover shadow detail in the hedge, slightly increase Vibrance, apply sharpening (edges only), apply a little noise reduction, save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: selectively darken the sky, process the flag area to darken as well as increase the red channel, sharpen, save, scale to 6000 px wide, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.

1:36 drawing of VR's popular C class loco. This is the first in a series of drawings of Australian motive power under the 'OzTrains' banner, so feel free to offer suggestions. I started with the C as it's one of my favourite locos. If anyone notices something is amiss, please let me know. I am currently 'painting' this as C501, then I will be modifying it to bring it to the current operational standard, with ALL liverys.

She was a beauty--a gold 45 goddess for sure! A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess guards the beauty of dx4/dt=ic and embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. Novocherkassk Russian built class Sr1 no. 3050 is seen waiting at Kouvola with train P75 the 10.05 Helsinki to Oulu. This service took an indirect cross country route to the north of Finland, first heading east to Kouvola before taking the inland route north up the centre of the country via Pieksämäki and Kuopio taking 8hrs 10mins to reach Oulu on the Gulf of Bothnia. The direct route from Helsinki via Tampere took just over 7hrs back in 1986.

She had on a short sweater dress, so before the shoot started, we decided to shoot the 45surf hats & Gold 45 Revolver ballcaps in the short sweater dress. Well, I think you'll like our decision. Fun model fun shoot! :)

Southend Transport ECW bodied Bristol VR 351 (YBF 686S) is seen at Southend Central Bus Station in this photo dated March 1993. This bus was formerly with PMT.
Devon General Bristol VR 623 DGR477S on The Strand Torquay. This bus was new to Northern General but had been ordered by Trent. Two apologies one for the photo quality and the second for the date taken. It was a day when the booked open topper on this route was being used for the celebrations of a local sports team.At the time it was one of the last full size buses in use in a minibus dominated fleet.

This is another image from a visit to the Kinnear Yard adjacent to Gage Park in Hamilton Ontario. In addition tot he three CP (Canadian Pacific Railway) engines, a Harsco Mark IV HD tamper was parked there. The tamper uses a series of hydraulic rams (for lack of a better description) located both sides approximately midway along the carriage, to fit between the railway ties and tamp the stone base. Under computer control, this packs the base and makes sure the track sits as required. Big toys for big boys. - JW
Date Taken: 2014-11-30
Tech Details:
Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 18-105mm VR lense set to 48mm, ISO100, Aperture priority mode, f/6.3, two exposures one at 1/2 sec and another at 13 sec. The two (no, not three, but two) images were processed in free Open Source Luminance/Qtpfsgui HDR software using two different tone-mapping operators, Fattal to bring out colours and Mantiuk06 to bring out details. Because the two images were subsequently combined, the image is a hybrid rather than a simple HDR. HDR processing settings are shown below. PP in free Open Source GIMP: the two versions were loaded as layers and then the opacity was set to 50%, a new working layer created from the visible result and then saved as an interim image. The interim image was then processed in free Open Source RAWTherapee: highlights and shadows were enabled and shadows were brought up to bring out a bit of the undercarriage detail, the black level was increased slightly, contrast was increased slightly, vibrance was boosted, noise reduction was applied as was sharpening and then the image was saved. PP in GIMP: the image was duplicated on two layers, the top layer named 'main' and the lower layer named 'brighter', for the top layer the tone curve was adjusted slightly to darken the bottom 10% of the curve, hold the mid-tones and slightly brighten the top 20%, in the brighten layer the tome curve was boosted overall to brighten the yellow Harsco unit and incidentally the undercarriage detail, using a soft-edged eraser tool the yellow Harsco unit was removed from the top/main layer as was the undercarriage areas of the engines, a new working layer was created from the visible result, slight contrast increase was applied, sharpened, added fine black and white frame, added bar and text on left, scaled to 1800 wide for posting.
