Seen here are three of the VR's in service at Glastonbury 2015 along with accommodation vehicle AYG491H.
Nippon Kosokki wasn’t in anyway associated with Nippon Kogaku, Nikon, but perhaps they would like to be as it is written in the camera’s front and on the lens. This is my second Taron rangefinder, the other being the Eyemax, one of the ugliest cameras ever. This VR rangefinder has a sober design, classical, unadventurous, thank God. This is an entry level rangefinder camera as the 2.8 lens and 1/300th maximum shutter speed indicates. Still, it is very decently made, but the viewfinder is not in the same league as other Japanese cameras of the same era, it doesn’t feature automatic parallax correction, just a bright frame. No meter, of course, this was supposed to be a cheap camera.
Apparently Taron was big as an OEM camera supplier, but not under its own name. There are other far more interesting and sophisticated models, but the company didn’t survive in the sea of big names and it disappeared somewhere in the 60’s.
I've chosen this 1997 slide of a Cathay Pacific Jumbo to mark the passing of the type with Cathay in passenger configuration. The last flight from Tokyo took place on 1st October 2016, although an 'invited guests' flight takes place on 8th October.
This image was conveniently sitting in my "scanned but not yet cleaned up" folder so I just tidied things up this evening.
Interestingly, being registered VR-HOZ suggests that this was taken prior to the handover of Hong Kong back to China on 1st July 1997. However, this image dates from 9th August, but the aircraft was not re-registered to B-HOZ to form part of the Chinese registry until 22nd September 1997.
The other factoid about this posting is that this shot was probably the only one I've taken from this corner of Heathrow Airport. It's near the British Midland hangar - and I think that's one of their tugs at work. I think I've taken this through a hole in the fence in Exteter Road. I seem to remember that this spot would be no good for moving shots, or maybe my stay here would not have been tolerated!?
This Boeing 747-400 was one of a dwindling number then left in the old and attractive Cathay livery. It later got converted to a cargo aircraft and was seen at Victorville, California in early 2016 with many major parts missing.

We passed by many interesting places that I would have liked to explore but there are many barriers in Pompeii blocking access and we were only here for a VERY SHORT time. This place is huge and I know we missed so many interesting things that I had read about......... Only a few more of Pompeii to go.

We are having beautiful weather in Tokyo for the holiday known as Golden Week. So I went and bought some plants for the balcony, including this lavender. The combination of flowers, scent and dry sunshine reminds me of France in summer. Happy days.

It's funny what things attract my attention. The lady wearing these boots was dressed in shorts and T shirt. But it was the boots that caught my attention.
