M&D weren't shy about picking up secondhand bargains. This ex-South Yorkshire/Sheffield Transport VR, with unusual East Lancs bodywork has just arrived at the old Maidstone bus station in August 1981.

Aki and Mark preparing for their spacewalk using a virtual reality headset. The whole station is modelled in infinite detail in 3D by NASA VRlab, it’s a fantastic tool to prepare, review and describe the spacewalks and robotics operations. I think it's safe to say Aki is getting the full experience 😅

I just noticed the starboard cannon is tilted up too high in this photo.

Oh well. After all those 'free' fighters wore out, the Federation needed something with a bit more power and a bit more armor. The result was the Avenger, a medium fighter with heavy weapons and a nasty bite. It served the Federation well through the invasion of the Dark Horde.

Even though VR has introduced many Vectrons class Sr3, the old Sr1 are still in use on most freight trains. The depot in Kouvola has many Sr1, here VR Sr1 3007 and 3090 are seen on October 9, 2025.

There's something very appealing and photogenic about this VR postbox with the old street sign and wall. I've photographed it many times over the years.

It's hard to tell here as the weather was so rubbish (and after the sun had been out less than five minutes earlier!), but this isn't 'Poppy Red'. What other colour would you paint an ex Eastern National Bristol VR than LT red and white? That said, the last PSV user of STW 30W, Hedingham & District, also had it painted in red, so I guess there's a precident.

The picture was taken today just after leaving the paint-shop, with Moorcroft pottery's bottle oven as a back-drop.

The VR is destined for life in a non-PSV role, I believe its to become some kind of mobile class room at a school in the Home Counties.

Back in April 1987 I went on a bus hunting adventure which included a visit to Warrington where I photographed Crosville Bristol VRT / ECW H43/31F DVL406 JMB406T in the Crosville depot.

Not to be confused with Serious Sam: The Last Hope, this is re-release of the original Serious Sam game but with VR support.

This is a build that's very close to my heart: may I present to you all the VR-052F Veritech, or more simply, the Cyclone. If you're a Robotech or MOSPEADA fan you'll most instantly recognise this build, it's iconic. As a kid, my dad raised me on Robotech, which in the last few years I've been able to expand on with my discovery of Macross and all of the other titles Carl Macek smooshed together to produce his saga. The basic idea of the Cyclone is to provide REF soldiers with increased survivability through a means of transport and enhanced combat effectiveness. It does this by transforming from a motorbike into a set of armour, granting the wearer extreme abilities via boosters, weapons and targeting systems.

Summer 1991 doesn't seem that long ago to me - but of course it was. Looking at some random colour negatives I took then it was clearly a different century.

Here a Thamesway VR stands at Debden on London contracted service 20. VRs were never very common in London, even in the 'anything goes' early days of tendering.

It must be rubbish collection day, since two dustbins have been left in the road behind the VR.
