One of the smartest non pcvs this year for me must be VTV169S which forms part of an elusive fleet based in Perthshire but operated countrywide spreading the good word of God. This veteran new in January 1978 is shown about to set off on a marathon journey to the Outer Hebrides where it will be semi permanently based for most of 2015 at least.

With a PVR of two vehicles Mendip Mule has plenty to choose from with 7 vehicles in the end. UWV607S was new back in 1977 and had its life at opposite ends of the country with Southdown until moving within stagecoach to Scotland. It has been with Dave Hoare 18 years and seems a popular motor.

It's unusual for me to join in with preserved bus events but on 19th July, 2025, I spent the afternoon riding on former Sheffield Corporation Bristol VR East Lancs 271 (OWE 271K), back in its home city for the day. I last came across this bus when I (and it) lived in Hastings back in the nineties and it looks much better now than it did back then. Shame, I can't say the same about myself.
Privately owned Bristol VR KRU 855W of 1980 vintage visiting the St Helens Museum Lancashire bus running day 15 Oct 2023. Displaying the Wilts & Dorset logo used by that bus company 1986 to 2002. Behind is St Helens Corporation Leyland Titan NDJ 554E.
Not to be confused with Serious Sam: The Last Hope, this is re-release of the original Serious Sam game but with VR support.
This is a build that's very close to my heart: may I present to you all the VR-052F Veritech, or more simply, the Cyclone. If you're a Robotech or MOSPEADA fan you'll most instantly recognise this build, it's iconic. As a kid, my dad raised me on Robotech, which in the last few years I've been able to expand on with my discovery of Macross and all of the other titles Carl Macek smooshed together to produce his saga. The basic idea of the Cyclone is to provide REF soldiers with increased survivability through a means of transport and enhanced combat effectiveness. It does this by transforming from a motorbike into a set of armour, granting the wearer extreme abilities via boosters, weapons and targeting systems.

It's hard to tell here as the weather was so rubbish (and after the sun had been out less than five minutes earlier!), but this isn't 'Poppy Red'. What other colour would you paint an ex Eastern National Bristol VR than LT red and white? That said, the last PSV user of STW 30W, Hedingham & District, also had it painted in red, so I guess there's a precident.
The picture was taken today just after leaving the paint-shop, with Moorcroft pottery's bottle oven as a back-drop.
The VR is destined for life in a non-PSV role, I believe its to become some kind of mobile class room at a school in the Home Counties.

Engine bay and driver side panel detail generally reproduced from available photos to give some feel for the real thing.
The weathered banner over the windows was created in CorelDraw and printed on transfer paper with a matt finish for effect.

Back Story ...........
Same Same, arriving early and feeding The Browns.
Cut through The DMZ on my way to feed The Leroy Crew.
Now this is where the term Same Same but Different takes place.
Instantly noticed Leroy was MIA. Funny thing was I saw him when first pulling into the temple grounds a half an hour earlier.
Tuff Guy and Girlfriend are racing circles around me while approaching the big drum.
GF was very excited knowing breakfast was about to be served.
Tuff Guy was more excited in GF then in the food. ???
Whats that say you ask ?
Well lets back up a little bit and I'll fill ya in .
Couple days back I noticed Leroy and TG were paying a lot of attention to GF, that's the back end and not the biting end.
Just to clarify that for you non dog people.
The "biting end" is where the teeth are.
The "back end" is where the tail is...... ;-)
Now today TG keeps trying to hump GF but GF keeps introducing him to the "biting end" !
Leroy wants to join the party but TG keeps introducing Leroy to his "biting end" !
OK, ya with me here ?
Is Girl Friend coming into heat ?
She wasn't flagging but something seems to be going on to attract so much attention from Leroy and TG.
So lets think about this, I've been caring for these dogs going on about 3 years and never once has GF come into heat !
That doesn't mean she won't come into season I mean stranger things happen out here all the time.
I'm trying to envision a bunch of Little Leroys and Tiny Tuff Guys, scary thought ! ..;-)
Anyway Leroy finally came sneaking in the back way and hurriedly jumped up on his bench in an effort to avoid TG.
All 3 were fed then Leroy split even before finishing his meal.
TG finished Leroys meal , go figure.
OK, In this photo is Honey, many may remember she is the head monks dog and always likes to spend a little quality time with me. The Red Chair is where I briefly sit while doing that activity.
GF and TG are off to my left trying to work out their new love arrangement .
Leroy is standing further away wishing he could win GF's affection.

The rich creamy Bokeh off the 1.8 50 mm Sony prime lens on the crop sensor is amazing! Combine the shallow-depth-of-field with Sony NEX-6 latest face-tracking auto focus, and you can see how the moving video keeps the model's pretty blue eyes in focus, while blurring the background! I shot at wide-open 1.8 all day long! :)

I was standing on a deck overlooking the mid-ship pool when this scene presented itself and I couldn't resist the opportunity.
This lady was taking advantage of the saltwater pool to float effortlessly and my vantage point gave me a birds eye view of the moment.
This was taken with a Nikon D70 coupled with a 18-200mm VR lens that allowed me to zoom in easily without any worry about lens (or ship) "shake".
I hope you'll view this at the larger sizes so you can see the details that the lens captured such as the tile pattern on the bottom of the pool....
Preparations for RetroBus (or the Front Entrance Bus Running Day) in Winchester on Sunday 19th March 2017 were well advanced when I called by on the day before.
The event is being organised by Hampshire Bus Preservation and a number of routes will be operating to places including Alresford, Cheriton, Otterbourne and Fair Oak using a good selection of preserved front-entrance buses.
Here, Southdown Bristol VR / ECW deckers GNJ583N and EAP984V are seen parked at Winchester Bus Station.
