Bis zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges gehörte das Dorf Konau hinter dem Elbdeich zum Landkreis Lüneburg, nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erfolgte wegen der fehlenden Brücke über die Elbe mit entsprechend zu erwartenden Versorgungsschwierigkeiten aus praktischen Gründen im Juli 1945 eine Übergabe an die sowjetische Besatzungszone und daraus folgend die spätere Zugehörigkeit Konaus zur DDR. Durch die Lage im so genannten Schutzstreifen der DDR-Grenze blieb die für die Siedlungsgeschichte an der Elbe typische Marschhufenbebauung im Ort bis heute erhalten. Nach der deutschen Wiedervereinigung wechselte Konau wieder nach Niedersachsen in den Landkreis Lüneburg zurück.

Until the end of the Second World War, the village of Konau, located behind the Elbe dyke, belonged to the Lüneburg district. After the Second World War, due to the lack of a bridge over the Elbe and the associated supply difficulties, it was handed over to the Soviet occupation zone in July 1945 for practical reasons, and Konau subsequently became part of the GDR. Due to its location in the so-called protective strip of the GDR border, the village has retained the typical building style for the history of settlement on the Elbe to this day. After German reunification, Konau returned to Lower Saxony in the Lüneburg district.

Until I return to Europe at the end of March, I will post impressions of our home beach. There's so much colorful, vibrant, aesthetic to see here that I've taken dozens of good shots of it. Most of the shots are taken on our early morning walk on the beach between 6 and 7 o'clock. The light is also advantageous here.

I recently discovered my fascination for capturing staircases. Whilst looking for nice staircases to photograph in Berne, the other day I accidentally looked up at my own staircase in the building where I’ve been living for the past few years. As I live at the top floor I’ve never felt the need to actually walk up the stairs and did so only twice so far and only, because the lift didn’t work. 😂 Seriously, how lazy can one actually be? Anyway, I’ve decided that from now on I will make an effort and walk up the 112 steps until home at least once a day. After all, it definitely won’t hurt my bum and on top of it it’s exercise for free! 💪😁

Tower Bridge is a Grade I listed combined bascule, suspension, and, until 1960, cantilever bridge[1] in London, built between 1886 and 1894, designed by Horace Jones and engineered by John Wolfe Barry with the help of Henry Marc Brunel. It crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and is one of five London bridges owned and maintained by the City Bridge Foundation, a charitable trust founded in 1282.

The bridge was constructed to connect the 39 per cent of London's population that lived east of London Bridge, equivalent to the populations of "Manchester on the one side, and Liverpool on the other", while allowing shipping to access the Pool of London between the Tower of London and London Bridge. Pretty is their bright red feathers, Crimson Rosellas are the most timid of all the birds who visit my yard. They wait on the periphery until the other birds leave, and often there is no food left, but I always find some extra for these beauties.

From October 20 until 26 I managed to sneak out for a couple of days for some good old railfanning action. Weather forecasts were demotivating, but I decided to try to make the most of it. Letting the weather forecast determine my next destination seemed worth a try. Heading to the unknown was good motivation to eventually head off, after dropping the kids at school. An opening between the clouds would be moving east throughout the day and I decided to follow it, looking for opportunities. Number one was only half an hour from home, as BLS Cargo Nord was heading towards Antwerp withtheir daily Zeebrugge-Antwerp shuttle. On Monday 20/8 it was lead by 475 417. Sun and autumn colors didn't disappoint.

Perhaps one of Germanys most famous statues stands on guard at the convergence of the mighty Mosel and Rhein rivers the Deutsches Eck (German Corner).

The Statue is a typical Prussian martial style equestrian statue of William I, the first German Emperor it was created in 1897 in gratitude after his death for being the Father of the modern Empire and the unification of Germany.

During WWII it was mistakenly destroyed by artillery when they mistook it for enemy troops and it remained just a plinth until 2 September 1993 when sculptor Raymond Kittl finished producing an improved replica created from bronze plates this time around instead of copper.
