Florida weather can be unpredictable. Just seconds after this photo was taken the skies opened up with extremely heavy rain.

Their's something fascinating about using a camera a little random.
My Kiev 4 seems somewhat unpredictable in terms of what the photographs actually end up looking like. Using the Kiev 4 is nothing like using a digital camera, theirs no preview image and a limited number of shots available on a roll of film.
The border around this image was created by the edges of the film showing in the scanner, it looked interesting so I decided to keep it.

Last fall I took my last good fall photo from this location. It's always been a tough nut for me to crack, unpredictable weather patters creating dense cloud cover over the scene, heavy haze obscuring the peaks in the distance, trying to find a composition within the chaos. There's an angle I hadn't attempt before. The high vantage. There is a large boulder at this location, 20 foot tall form the road. From that boulder you're above the foreground clutter, you have an unobstructed view, which is really great... If you're fine with heights, I am not. Yesterday, golden hour had set in, and while I wasn't insistent on getting a shot, I did have a few locations in mind. This was one of them. Upon getting here there was another photographer on the ground snapping hand held, he was trying to find a deep composition, so as he had arrived first he had the run of the areas he wanted. Really, it's etiquette, but he was having the same problems I always have here. My friend who was with me told me about the view from the boulder.... So up I went despite my legs being like jelly and not knowing how to get back down there I was, snapping photos from the top of a boulder on the side of the road, trying not to think of the nearly 200 foot drop inches from where my tripod sat....

Our SoCal weather has just gotten too unpredictable. My poppies are popping, after two months with no rain, and now it's cold and raining and the poppies are drooping under the weight. Which brings me back to my Monarch Caterpillars from late last year. That was a problem too. All these guys hatched out in NOVEMBER, and made their little pupas all around the foundation of my house. The prob is: it got unseasonably hot, and then it got cold. Only one poor pupa finally produced, 2 weeks past due (in DECEMBER), and sadly was badly deformed, unable to eat or fly. I had such hope for them all, and I was just crushed as I watched them all wither away, especially the last one. I did plant more milkweed a few weeks ago, so hopefully they all get an earlier start and there will be joy again.
On the upside, there's a lot going on in this image. The caterpillars are voracious eaters, if you've never seen this. They vie aggressively for every last morsel. You can see how they're eating away, even the one guy looks like it's chewing on a stem. And there's that giant bite out of the flower bud at the lower right. It was a new and captivating experience for me to watch them.
An incredibly challenging bird to shoot in flight due to the highly unpredictable flight pattern, finally managed to get a decent shot.
The Swifts are an extraordinary species of birds pushing the limits of what we know of birds. Some of the swift species are known to fly for their life-time (4-6 years) barely touching ground. They are known to sleep while flying, mate while flying and come to the nest only to lay eggs. Some Swift species are recorded flying for almost 9-10 months straight.
I couldn't find much information about Little Swift though, but what we do know is that they are resident (see them outside my apartment much of the year) and feed on small insects that they catch while flying.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.

The word hippo translates to river horse in ancient Greek. The giant animal weighs a whopping 8,000 pounds. The hippo can only be found in Africa. Hippos are native to over 30 countries in Africa. These herbivores live up to 50 years in the wild. There are only two species of hippos on the planet. These include the common hippopotamus and the pygmy hippo.
The hippopotamus is one of the largest quadrupeds and, despite its stocky shape and short legs, it can easily outrun a human. Hippos have been recorded as running at 30 km/h (19 mph) over short distances. The hippopotamus is a highly aggressive and unpredictable animal and is ranked among the most dangerous animals in Africa.
They are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory canine teeth. The demand for hippo teeth escalated after the ban on the international trade of elephant ivory in 1989.
The common hippopotamus is semiaquatic, inhabiting rivers, lakes and mangrove swamps, where territorial bulls preside over a stretch of river and groups of five to 30 females and young. During the day, they remain cool by staying in the water or mud; reproduction and childbirth both occur in water. They emerge at dusk to graze on grasses. While hippopotamuses rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos are not territorial on land. – Wikipedia
I find it almost impossible to capture these guys in flight, especially when they're feeding over water. Very hard to focus, way too unpredictable, and very hard to fill the frame. One way to improve my chances were to find a mating pair. While the female was perched on an ugly telephone wire, the male's flying became much more predictable!

“THE WEATHER OF LOVE
Love
Has a way of wilting
Or blossoming
At the strangest,
Most unpredictable hour.
This is how love is,
An uncontrollable beast
In the form of a flower.
The sun does not always shine on it.
Nor does the rain always pour on it
Nor should it always get beaten by a storm.
Love does not always emit the sweetest scents,
And sometimes it can sting with its thorns.
Water it.
Give it plenty of sunlight.
Nurture it,
And the flower of love will
Outlive you.
Neglect it or keep dissecting it,
And its petals will quickly curl up and die.
This is how love is,
Perfection is a delusional vision.
So love the person who loves you
Unconditionally,
And abandon the one
Who only loves you
Under favorable
Conditions

Each year, World Hippo Day on February 15th provides a special day to celebrate the world’s third-largest mammal.
The word hippo translates to river horse in ancient Greek. The giant animal weighs a whopping 8,000 pounds. There is only one continent in the world you can find a hippo. That continent is Africa. These fragile red spots, these tears of life that no one causes and that grow, however, unpredictably, in the middle of the fields.

Valtos (from the Old Norse 'Vald Hus' meaning 'house of one in power') is a large and well-populated village on the Valtos peninsula in the parish of Uig, on the south west coast of Lewis. With a large and well used pier, it was, and still is a safe harbour from the unpredictable Atlantic swell off the coastline. The stunning views from the pier extend to a number of offshore islands and skerries.
With its picturesque boats and horseshoe curved shoreline, Valtos pier is a natural draw (no pun intended) for artists and photographers alike.
The weather is always unpredictable at Cape St. Mary’s in Newfoundland. We shot today in high winds and driving rain and still got some interesting pictures of Northern Gannets busily working on nests. The winds were so harsh Black-legged Kittiwakes were blown off their perches. Then the fog rolled in and we made the long hike back, drenched but oddly satisfied. It is a crazy hobby sometimes.
Due to intense harm and evil choices of others you are faced with so much darkness, devastation, difficulty, physical and emotional pain and suffering, unpredictability, fear, terror and so many other challenges that almost completely crush you which you are unable to express with words. And amidst all this suffering, when it feels like too much and you want to quit trying to survive, you work to keep looking for light and moving forward in healthy ways even when it seems impossible. Thank you for pressing on at a pace appropriate for you by working to care for yourself through many forms of nourishment, working to receive healthy support through God’s faithfulness and people who deeply care for you, through rest, tears, and graceful acknowledgment of truth and reality. You still have a long way to go on this journey and it is amazing how far you’ve come.

It is unpredictable for the weather change!!!
Creeping front on Norfolk Island signifies the eventual arrival of Category 2 Cyclone Gabrielle. Subsequent days meant some buffeting and rains but little damage on the historic small island. The cyclone eased into a tropical low as it passed southeast to New Zealand but there caused massive flooding damage. Cyclones are unpredictable even after downgrading.

The low volcano Kelud (1731) Kediri, has a very bad, completely unpredictable character and has erupted about 30 times over the past seven hundred years, killing more than 15 th. people. Kelud is really dangerous and the facts of history have more than once confirmed it. Kelud appears as both the most terrible and the most beautiful volcano in Indonesia. The most catastrophic eruption was 1929.

Zebras Caught Snuggling
Zebras have not shared a horse's fate of domestication and human use because their biting and kicking habits are too strong, ingrained, unpredictable, and often fatal to humans. Sometimes, it pays to be the wild child.

The weather had been very unpredictable, constantly changing from heavy rain to warm sunshine. This created very misty conditions as the rain evaporated from the forest covered hillsides.
A dramatic sunset was all that was needed to give a lovely golden shine through the mist and silhouetted trees. Fortunately I got lucky...

Spring in the Rockies is very much unpredictable, just one night, everything is covered by snow and frost, and heavy fog reduces visibility, it may be bad for driving and sightseeing, but for photographers like me, this is a perfect cold world.

Emerging from the soft and organic beachscape are angular peaks that frame perspectives and form pathways. Consisting of repeating structures of select shapes and sizes, Peak is an interactive installation that visually contrasts the existing site and offers refuge from the cold winter environment. The design of the structure appears to shift and settle with the ground as the sand moves and collects within the alcoves and sloped surfaces from the wind. Peak welcomes contemplation and new beginnings, it offers opportunities for individuals to freely explore and admire the surrounding natural landscape and intends to give agency to the ever changing and unpredictable conditions of the site.

A resident swallow in the area we visited, this beautiful bird a bit smaller than a sparrow. They are amazing fliers - unpredictable, agile and making fast and furious dives that I find very interesting. They would fly as close 5-6 feet sometimes - maybe they don't see us or maybe they are not afraid - I am not sure.
The birds are in their peak nesting season so they capture several insects in flight and carry them back with their mouths full. They also land on the banks of ponds, lakes and rivers to grab mouthful of mud and build nests. I sighted them near one such small pond on side of a road. Just had to figure out a pattern of landing and could grab a few good shots like the above.

An incredibly challenging bird to shoot in flight due to the highly unpredictable flight pattern, managed to get a decent shot on this day. I don't enjoy shooting these birds since success rates are incredibly low and they are very hard on the arms.
The Swifts are an extraordinary species of birds pushing the limits of what we know of birds. Some of the swift species are known to fly for their life-time (4-6 years) barely touching ground.
Shot this from a bridge over a very large lake. 100's Swallows and Swifts nest under this bridge. They gather mud and other nesting materials from the banks and then create their nests on the underside of the bridge. Shot this Swift during one such trip - it was carrying a feather. Sighted few other swifts carrying feathers to their nests.
These are resident birds (see them outside my apartment much of the year) and feed on small insects that they catch while flying.
