Given its unpredictable temper, the African buffalo is particularly difficult to tame and has never been domesticated like its relative, the Asian water buffalo. Additionally, these animals are considered to be extremely dangerous. They fiercely protect themselves and each other against predators and are known to move in to support another buffalo that is under attack by a lion or other predator. They are very courageous animals.

Due to the weather being so unpredictable at the moment here in Berlin, getting out is proving problematic. So indoor photography ensures, this my friend's Orchid luckily placed by a window so natural light wasn't too much of a problem to find. Also the D5600 has a more wider and more apparent D-Active Lighting feature which helped fill in the gaps, so to speak.

Hoping the weather improves soon as we fast approach my favourite time of year, Spring, I hope it's a warm one and I get out and really play with my new toy! I must admit, photography can be a little overwhelming with the technology and all things considered, so even from the D3400 to the my new camera, there is a lot to learn, remember and think about.

I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

Finally, it warmed up... Many were wearing short sleeves and shorts today... We are experiencing above average temperatures for a Canadian February. It might be odd to wear shorts or short sleeves in this winter month (and sounds scarry) but the warmth is welcome. It is believed that February is unpredictable; however this break in temperature is welcome. Wish you've had a beautiful day and wish you a pleasant rest-of-week days.

I wish that the winds of March could blow this world-wide contagion away. This photo was taken in March, 2018 on a very windy, sunny day as I admired the view from Ediz Hook of Port Angeles into the Olympic Mountains in Washington state. The world seemed safe then compared to now.

I wish all my Flickr friends good health - stay safe as we wait for this horrible pandemic to run its course and I pray for a cure!! As always, many thanks for your inspiration and visits!

"My father was often impatient during March, waiting for the winter to end, the cold to ease, the sun to reappear. March was an unpredictable month, when it was never clear what might happen. Warm days raised hopes until ice and grey skies shut over the town again." ~ Tracy Chevalier

Hugs my friends.................I am still unpredictable and inconstant

forgive me:)

This is a very old photo that for some reason had been labeled as private in my photostream, all I did was change its status, I have not re-released it, my apologies if it has appeared as a "new" post, I would not have done it if I'd known as this is some really early work that does not represent my current output. Sorry for the inconvenience.

location: North America, Europe

edibility: Deadly

fungus colour: Red or redish or pink

normal size: 5-15cm

cap type: Convex to shield shaped

stem type: Ring on stem, Volva on stem

spore colour: White, cream or yellowish

habitat: Grows in woods, Grows on the ground

Amanita muscaria (L. ex Fr.) Hooker Fly Agaric, Amanite tue-mouches, Fausse Oronge Roter Fliegenpilz Cap 8–20cm across, globose or hemispherical at first then flattening, bright scarlet covered with distinctive white pyramidal warts which may be washed off by rain leaving the cap almost smooth and the colour fades. Stem 80–180×10–20mm, white, often covered in shaggy volval remnants as is the bulbous base, the white membranous ring attached to the stem apex sometimes becoming flushed yellow from the pigment washed off the cap. Flesh white, tinged red or yellow below the cap cuticle, Taste pleasant, smell faint. Gills free, white. Spore print white. Spores broadly ovate, nonamyloid, 9.5–10.5×7–8µ. Habitat usually with birch trees, Season late summer to late autumn. Common. Deadly poisonous. It contains many different toxins see below. Distribution, America and Europe.

This is one of the easiest species to recognize and describe, and consequently its properties have been well documented for centuries. The common name Fly Agaric comes from the practice of breaking the cap into platefuls of milk, used since medieval times to stupefy flies. It is a strong hallucinogen and intoxicant and was used as such by the Lapps. In such cases the cap is dried and swallowed without chewing. The symptoms begin twenty minutes to two hours after ingestion. The central nervous system is affected and the muscles of the intoxicated person start to pull and twitch convulsively, followed by dizzines and a death-like sleep. During this stage the mushrooms are often vomited but nevertheless the drunkenness and stupor continue. While in this state of stupor, the person experiences vivid visions and on waking is usually filled with elation and is physically very active. This is due to the nerves being highly stimulated, the slightest effort of will producing exaggerated physical effects, e.g. the intoxicated person will make a gigantic leap to clear the smallest obstacle. The Lapps may have picked up the habit of eating the Fly Agaric through observing the effects of the fungus on reindeer, which are similarly affected. Indeed, they like it so much that all one has to do to round up a wandering herd is to scatter pieces of Fly Agaric on the ground. Another observation the Lapps made from the reindeer was that the intoxicating compounds in the fungus can be recycled by consuming the urine of an intoxicated person. The effects of consuming this species are exceedingly unpredictable; some people remain unaffected while others have similar, or different, symptoms to those above, and at least one death is attributed to A. muscaria. This unpredictability is due to the fungus containing different amounts of the toxins ibotenic acid and muscimol according to season, method of cooking and ingestion, as well as the subject’s state of mind. Ibotenic acid is mostly concentrated in the coloured skin of the cap. This very unstable compound rapidly degrades on drying to form muscimol which is five to ten times more potent. Traditionally, where A. muscaria is used as an inebriant, it is the dried cap which is taken.

Another image from the Kilbrannish Looped Walk. As previously mentioned the weather was certainly diverse and unpredictable. Showers all around us but not one fell on us. It did provide dramatic patchwork effect on the landscape as seen here.

Loughareema (also Loughaveema, Vanishing lake, in Irish loch in Mhadhma) in the north-east of Northern Ireland is a small lake, periodically, but unpredictable drained.

The phenomenon is valid as for Europe incredibly. The lake unconventional in certain manner lies directly with road close Ballycastle. Sometimes becomes the road for the quiet waters floods, because astonishing-wise the street leads to Ballycastle briefly directly through the lake.

The inhabitants of the area „whisper with a wink“ that even once the foreign road construction engineers could be "tricked" by the lake.

Reason for the unusual phenomenon is that the lake is on a "leaking" chalk bed. If the drain holes with for example peat are blocked, the water cannot run off in the subsoil and gathers again to a lake.

This passes with strong rainfall how these seem in Ireland not seldom, quite quickly – and as abruptly the lake disappears again, as soon as one the described peat to "stoppers" is not thick any more.

Having unpredictable weather in Patagonia, especially with strong winds, we were lucky enough to have a really calm morning. Looking at blue water and mountain reflections, I felt getting into a dreamland.

Wanvisa Waterlily is the most unusual hardy waterlily with very unpredictable colors, not 2 are alike, this one I got from the owners pond from his house, bit more expensive but is worth it.

August can be a quiet month for taking pictures of birds., but it's 'prime-time' for insect pictures

And arguably the most spectacular is the Dragonfly., some (like this Migrant Hawker) are even large enough to attempt a shot 'in-flight' with a long lens

There unpredictable flying patterns can be frustrating., the 'hover and go' routine means you inevitably end up with a few empty frames., but with a little persistence you can eventually 'nail' a reasonable image of one

Spectacular and colourful., I think it's definitely worth the effort!

Thanks for looking, comments and faves. Much appreciated!

10 timeless 'Alice in Wonderland' quotes to celebrate the 150th anniversary

"We're all mad here."

abc7.com/alice-in-wonderland/1099131/

The Cheshire Cat says this to Alice in one of the most concise descriptions of the strange world down the rabbit hole. Unlike the world Alice left behind, "mad" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Here (and as you're reading), you should embrace a side of you that is quirky and unpredictable, and maybe when you get back to reality, you'll want to take a little of that with you.

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

Her day starts with a coffee and ends with a wine

Takes forever gettin' ready so she's never on time for anything

When she gets that, "Come get me, " look in her eyes

Well, it kinda scares me the way that she drives me wild

When she drives me wild

Beautiful, crazy, she can't help but amaze me

The way that she dances, ain't afraid to take chances

And wears her heart on her sleeve

Yeah, she's crazy but her crazy's beautiful to me

She makes plans for the weekend, can't wait to go out

'Til she changes her mind, says, "Let's stay on the couch and watch TV"

And she falls asleep

Beautiful, crazy, she can't help but amaze me

The way that she dances, ain't afraid to take chances

And wears her heart on her sleeve

Yeah, she's crazy but her crazy's beautiful to me

She's unpredictable, unforgettable

It's unusual, unbelievable

How I'm such a fool, yeah, I'm such a fool for her

Beautiful, crazy, she can't help but amaze me

The way that she dances, ain't afraid to take chances

And wears her heart on her sleeve

Yeah, she's crazy, she's crazy, she's crazy

But her crazy's beautiful to me

Her crazy's beautiful to me

These owls have rather unpredictable flight patterns, making them difficult to keep within the frame. They have a tendency to quickly change directions as they scan the fields for prey.

Our weather like most of Europe is very unpredictable, gales and lots of rain in July after the heat of June. I am happy to say we do not have the heat our friends in Italy Greece and Spain are enduring. I hope everyone is safe and well. The picture was captured last weekend during a very windy spell on the Cumbrian coast.

The Pathway..

the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us.

Autumn beauty reminds me that life can be unpredictably short. I try to remind myself to live my time to the fullest.

Anxiety gets in my way. But being outside in the rain helps, surrounded by wild grasses and fallen and blown maple leaves.

This lovely lady has been visiting for several days. I am not sure if she is leaving eggs on the milkweed when I am not looking. However, she most certainly is not while I am. She simply flits about sipping nectar. I can tell she is the same queen because of the damage to her scales that can be seen when her wings are open. Her wings are in great shape but she is missing several scales on the topside.

I have not seen any male queens for a while, perhaps that is why she is only sipping nectar. It's a lot more difficult for a female queen to get a date around here than it is a monarch. The monarchs are still going strong.

I am slowing down my efforts to raise butterflies since autumn is around the corner. I never raise as many during the autumn season and I pretty much take a break from November to February. That is unless I just can't resist bringing in a few that I happen to see while walking by. In that case, they will be raised in protective custody outside so they can stay in the appropriate temperature and over winter if they need to.

Speaking of over wintering, I still have nineteen goldrims that were raised months ago. They have been eclosing (hatching) on a random basis since June. Gotta love the goldrims but I don't raise as many of them as I could. They take up a lot of space and are so unpredictable when it comes to eclosing. I am hoping the remaining ones will eclose before the season is over. If they do and they leave eggs I will raise a few more but not a hundred like last time.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and happy snapping.

SILENT FALL

Leaves cascade like golden waterfalls

russet reds and Heaven is all

in the smallest of precious unpredictable

details; everything is so very beautiful

eyes look upwards; downwards; all around

waiting; never wasting any of

these lovely moments found

for they will never be again;

listen to the sound

of echoes revolving within this time

as softly they resound

perfect love is often difficult to find

but I will settle for someone who is always kind

someone who sees in me a similar train of mind

a melding of two spirits; soul

mates whose paths are intertwined

watching carefully now the subtle seasons change

the flowers of the field and meadows

shrinking now and landscapes rearranged

as in my dreams we walk so closely;

hand in hand down country lanes

I am replete within this tranquil

yet solitary moment and free of earthly pains.

After an unusually sunny and dry Spring, the UK seems to have returned to it’s more familiar unpredictable weather for the Summer. However it has the advantage that dramatic clouds are often accompanied with beautiful light, Ideal for photography as on this evening when the evening sun bathed the fields around Montacute in light.

My attempt at the "Macro Mondays" theme "Holes".

Another comet, another hole! Perhaps some remember that I have shot these little decorating things before. They are around 1.5 mm in diameter so kinda small to say the least. That‘s why the DOF is really shallow and everything out of it gets very unpredictable (and thus interesting to me)!

Shot with a Schneider Kreuznach "Componon 28 mm F 4" (enlarging) lens on a Canon EOS R5.

Goldrim butterflies are also doing well in the yard. I am reluctant to raise them because they are very unpredictable regarding eclosing (hatching). sometimes they will eclose within 10 days. Yet other times they over winter.

Reluctance doesn't stop me from raising a batch or two and the good news is that those that over winter will be the first out in the spring. I have roughly 60 in pupa stage that apparently will be with me until spring.

Kruger National Park

South Africa

The African buffalo or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large Sub-Saharan African bovine. Syncerus caffer caffer, the Cape buffalo, is the typical subspecies found in South and East Africa. The adult buffalo's horns are its characteristic feature: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head referred to as a "boss".

Cape Buffalo are suspected to kill around 200 people every year. They typically will charge and gore their victims and have been known to trample people as well. When you see Cape Buffalo roaming in Africa, they're usually not alone and an injured cape buffalo is even more dangerous and unpredictable than a healthy one.

Driftwood And Sand..

February 2022 was frigid cold, sub zero temperatures with strong winds made it feel even colder. We made our way to Jack Darling Memorial Park and spend a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.

the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us. Suddenly the dark clouds dissipated and light fluffy clouds with hints of blue sky appeared,

I found a solitary piece of driftwood on the sandy shoreline and framed it against the backdrop of the ever changing sky to make this wonderful shot.

The weather in the rockies can be spectacularly unpredictable in September. In the same day we can have snow in the morning and a high of 20 degrees in the afternoon. It usually snows up higher in the mountains and then rains in town. When I took this photo it was quickly alternating between rain showers and bright sunshine.

One good thing for rainbow chasers in our area - the sun angle in September is low enough in the sky rainbows may be visible all day long.
