The interesting thing about March and April is the unpredictable weather, on one single day you can experience four seasons. Bad Oeynhausen, Ostwestfalen, Germany

February this year was a frigid cold, sub zero temperatures with strong winds made it feel even colder. We made our way to Jack Darling Memorial Park and spent a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.
the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us.

The weather in the rockies can be spectacularly unpredictable in September. In the same day we can have snow in the morning and a high of 20 degrees in the afternoon. It usually snows up higher in the mountains and then rains in town. When I took this photo it was quickly alternating between rain showers and bright sunshine.
One good thing for rainbow chasers in our area - the sun angle in September is low enough in the sky rainbows may be visible all day long.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and faving my photos. Its very much appreciated!
This photo was taken almost a year ago. I’ve only been up to the lake once this summer. I’ve basically spent the past five months within walking distance from my house. For the unforeseeable future, my husband will continue to work from home, and my daughter will not be returning to the classroom this fall.
Everything feels very uncertain. Things are always unpredictable though. We have this illusion of continuity, but nothing is guaranteed. I’ve been painfully aware of this for well over a decade now. That life can be (and is) very fragile. I don’t want to forget that things can change in a heartbeat. Living like this has made me more grateful somehow.
Blessings to you and your loved ones on this fine day in August. I’m wishing only the best for you all.

I've been trying to get a photo at one of my feeders for the past week, but the birds have been uncooperative 😊. Today a tiny one came flying down from the tree where they roost as I was putting out a fresh feeder. He was literally 18 inches away from me, so close I could hear his tiny wings "humming." Now I understand why they are called "Hummingbirds."

I took all these pics through the closed patio window , so I apologise for the lack of techy expertise - ha ha - did me best didn't I? There's something called 'Fade correction' in my PSP software that always seems to correct the lacking colour contrast and works a treat when my pics are taken through said window.
I have mentioned before that sometimes the results can be rather unpredictable , but I love to experiment with it on my indoor stuff too ....
Managing a nest is challenging and the parents are regularly making flights to catch more insects and food. Here one of them fed some food to its chicks in the nest and is back another round. They are such efficient creatures that it appears that they don't take any rest at all. I still don't know if there are any differentiating marks that can help in identifying each swift uniquely.
The shot was incredibly challenging though due to the birds highly unpredictable flight pattern. I finally managed to get a decent shot. I shot this while it flew out of its nest under the bridge.
Thanks for all your views and feedback.
It's that time of year again to find images for friends and family Christmas calendars. I found this in the archives and quite liked it, taken on the beautiful Fair Isle, Scotland. Apologies for not being around much recently, I haven't turned my Mac on for weeks and the app on my phone is very unpredictable, yet I have tried my best to keep up with everyone's lovely images. Happy Weekend folks.
We all get to choose who enters our life, but not when they exit. Some people are as unpredictable as the winds and some are tried and as true as the nightly tides. The waves of life bring many surprises to the shore. It's up to you which to pick up.
I'm collecting my thoughts today as another hurricane forms in the Atlantic. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of Harvey.
Happy Labor Day weekend to all my American friends!
Happy Sunday to you all!
Who doesn't look forward to waking up to a tranquil sunrise? Though the mountains are unpredictable in weather, the sunrises and sunsets are nothing short of spectacular
One thing that never changes about PEI is the unpredictable weather if you don’t like it wait 15 minutes or so for something new to come along, this day went from a stormy morning to a wonderful afternoon in a few hours. This scene is from Orby Head National Park in PEI with enough coast for most this is a seascape that changes with the mood of the sea and the whims of the weather. This former iconic sea arch formation at MacKenzie's Brook stands proudly no more, unfortunately Hurricanes Fiona and Nicole did a one two punch and collapsed the arch.

Some plum blossoms I shot this spring. The weather has been so unpredictable, that I went out on a somewhat windy day to capture these. The light was at least nice, so all that remained was to choose, and shoot between the gusts, hoping the shutter speed was fast enough. It's just as well I took this opportunity, for days of wind and rain had them blowing down like snowflakes, in no time...

Well...
With crashing waves and a 1/30 shutter speed... maybe
Pan photography is usually reserved for motorsport where the subject (car/motorbike) has a predictable speed & Direction., applied to wildlife and suddenly those two 'key' factors become completely unpredictable
So it's challenging., and be prepared for failed attempts (I have a file full of those... trust me)
That said., when a 'set' comes out right it puts a smile on your face
OSPREY NO SHOW
A word of caution to all my my Photographic mates out there, if you are planning on a trip to an Osprey Hide in the UK in the next few years be careful with your choices and the exagerated spiel you see on line. £90.00 a 1 O'Clock in the morning start in the hide for 03.45 am and 4.5 hours sitting in a hide in the the River Gwash Trout Farm today at Rutland and all I have to show for it was 8 anarcic Herons and Red Kite visits. All very dissapointing and very expensive. My words of advice would be to save up and go to Aviemore in Scotland where the birds are far more plentiful, the Ospreys at Rutland are in very small numbers and far too unpredictable which makes it a very risky and expensive day out if they don't show as today :-(

Photographing churches on the hills of Iceland is a rewarding experience, blending striking architecture with dramatic landscapes. Here are some key tips to capture them beautifully:
1. Golden Hour Magic
Iceland’s long daylight hours in summer and soft winter light create stunning conditions. Aim for sunrise or sunset to get warm, directional lighting that enhances textures and contrasts.
2. Composition & Perspective
- Use leading lines like roads or paths to guide the viewer’s eye toward the church.
- Frame the church against mountains or open skies for a sense of scale.
- Experiment with low angles to emphasize the elevation of the church on the hill.
3. Weather & Atmosphere
Iceland’s weather is unpredictable, but mist, snow, or dramatic clouds can add mood to your shots. A polarizing filter helps reduce glare and deepen sky colors.
4. Iconic Churches to Photograph
- Búðakirkja (Budir Black Church) – A striking black wooden church on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
- Akureyrarkirkja – A modernist church perched on a hill in Akureyri.
- Thingvalla Kirkja – One of Iceland’s oldest churches, located in Thingvellir National Park.

As every landscape photographer knows, sunrise and sunset are totally unpredictable moments. This evening on the Moraine Lake rock pile, it turned out pretty weird but nonetheless a keeper.

The weather has been kind of unpredictable today and Tofu wasn't sure if it was safe to leave his hideout in the garden shed or if he you would get wet again. :)
Given its unpredictable temper, the African buffalo is particularly difficult to tame and has never been domesticated like its relative, the Asian water buffalo. Additionally, these animals are considered to be extremely dangerous. They fiercely protect themselves and each other against predators and are known to move in to support another buffalo that is under attack by a lion or other predator. They are very courageous animals.
It's unpredictable. When your mind crosses a certain line. You're unable to breathe even when there is abundant air around you. There is just one thought in your mind and you must fulfill it. That is when all the energy of the universe aspires to push you, encourage you, make you believe that this is your desire and yours alone that has to be done this instant. Nothing else rules your being and your feet are no longer yours when you rush out, chasing it, not allowing anything to stop you.
Dodging the fear, the uncertainty, all the lies and hatred that was disguised in kindness. All the care with hidden agendas and most especially all those promises coated in loneliness. Leaving behind your aspirations just for the sake of validity. Being silent instead of speaking since it would go unheard anyways. Enough is enough.
And when you reach your destination, an understanding that it's alright to put yourself first. You are allowed to want without judgment. When you have done it. An explosion of worries and failure rise to the surface. Your breath suddenly returns, the feeling of relief washes over your senses. All it takes is a smile as you can rest peacefully for once. And perhaps for awhile...
P.S. There is a rainbow in the windlight itself! Bambi is amazing!

A quick visit to the coast of Western Alentejo and just to photograph the storks. Also, weather was unpredictable. So, I only had one lens. Hence, this picture. Lucky that is was sunny and dry whilst we were there, well for a few moments. I might post another taken on my mobile phone.

Another resident swallow in the area we visited, this is a beautiful bird a bit smaller than a sparrow. They are easily confused for the common Barn Swallow (by me atleast) and I identified them only after seeing the pictures.
The birds are in their peak nesting season so they capture several insects in flight and carry them back with their mouths full.
A large number of these birds were nesting under a bridge over an overflowing reservoir after the heavy rains this month. They were 100's of them and despite my best efforts it was incredibly tough to get a few good shots of it in flight. Very agile, unpredictable turns, and fast flyer.
Thank you in advance for your views and feedback.
A walk in March brings very unpredictable weather, but the greening of the new leaves and grasses is thrilling to behold.

«What happens in Ukraine matters to us all.
That is why I am in Kyiv today.
That is why the UK will continue to stand with our Ukrainian friends.
I believe Ukraine can and will win this war.»
/British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Kyiv as the country celebrates Independence Day./
Life in Ukraine has never been easy. Many challenges have always awaited every Ukrainian every day - from the usual family and existential ones to unpredictable ones related to the political life of society. The war of 2014 fell on Ukrainians by surprise, like some kind of disease. That war was perceived as a disease that could be cured, because no one could and did not want to believe that it was a harbinger of something terrible, that trouble was brewing. How was it possible with common sense to believe that your neighbor would declare: "I will destroy you all and take all yours for myself." But February 24, 2022 came, and Russia began killing Ukrainians, destroying cities and villages, and looting our historical symbols. Life in Ukraine has changed. A different meaning of life has appeared, the dreams of Ukrainians have changed. We want to expel the enemy from every piece of the land of Ukraine and return to our usual and such difficult Ukrainian life. This is now the dream of everyone who lives in Ukraine and loves it, because there is nowhere better than it on the planet.

I am so tired of our unpredictable cold temperatures that today I did something I never do - I went to Wendy's! I ordered a hamburger, poutine, coke and to top off the high cholesterol lunch I added a diabetic surge and got a Carmel frosty! I told the guy at the drive-through that it was a "I'm fed-up with winter, who cares about the calories, winter blue's" order!
I think I ate enough with that order to go into hibernation now...
Sadly I didn't get up just in time today and missed a fantastic sunrise, with wonderful layered cloud. The other night though I did get to the beach just in time, and had great fun . I need to plan for sunrises more, but they're so unpredictable. Just in time by Ivor Cutler is fine.
The hellebore flowers in our neighborhood are no longer blooming, but this image ensures that I will return to that plant in the early Spring next year. The center of the flower resembles intricate decorations that one sees on a cake or cupcake. What a little beauty! "Life is short and unpredictable. Eat the dessert first!"

As my mind races, the thought of losing you becomes more real as time goes by. It’s the calm before the storm and storms are unpredictable.
One last spring wildflower pic before I depart on a photo outing to Kansas. I hope to return with lots of additional material, but then birds are notoriously unpredictable... :-)
View form Trail Ridge Road (highest continuous paved road in the US reaching elevation of 12,183 feet), Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Driving on this road is little nerve wrecking, but in the end rewarded by breathtaking scenery. Changing elevation takes you from tree lines to alpine tundra which has very fragile ecosystem. Weather up top is ever changing and highly unpredictable.
C/2019 Y4 (Atlas) had lots of potential to become a naked eye comet during late May. However, as seen before, comets can be very unpredictable. Around mid-March, observations indicated its brightening has slowed, and by early April there was speculation it was breaking up. This was confirmed with a closeup image taken on 11-April-2020, the same day as the one I acquired above.
Although the above image was 1st aligned on the stars and then combined (DSS) with comet aligned images, it coma is diffuse and elongated.

Welcome to my daydream.
The very moment captured in this image is one of the greatest moments I have experienced in my photographic life.
I joined four of the best landscape photographers I know to fly to the summit of New Zealand’s highest peak and stay the night in this mountain cabin known as, Plateau Hut.
The dramatic nature of these mountains provides a rare challenge for the climbers that attempt them. The combination of heavy glaciation, tremendous vertical scale and unpredictable weather means that they are not readily won. For us, the challenge was different. This was a rare opportunity to capture one of the most spectacular scenes this amazing country has to offer in some of the most perfect conditions we could possibly have wished for.
At just over 12,000ft the experience of standing on the summit of one of New Zealand’s major peaks is a rare privilege. Above the clouds, between the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean, these mountains offer the opportunity to rise above life’s complications, worries and frustrations and take in the extensive views.
View large and, as always, thanks for looking.
They are so unpredictable and fast...you get a lessen in patience !!
Thank you very much for your kind comments, favorites and looking

The African buffalo or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large Sub-Saharan African bovine. Syncerus caffer caffer, the Cape buffalo, is the typical subspecies found in South and East Africa. The adult buffalo's horns are its characteristic feature: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head referred to as a "boss".
Cape Buffalo are suspected to kill around 200 people every year. They typically will charge and gore their victims and have been known to trample people as well. When you see Cape Buffalo roaming in Africa, they're usually not alone and an injured cape buffalo is even more dangerous and unpredictable than a healthy one.
