In the language of flowers, peonies symbolize:
luck, prosperity, wealth, success, longevity in love. If June were a flower, it would undoubtedly be a peony!
The scent of a peony is the very carefree of summer! You inhale - and you want to live.
This flower is a little capricious, as well as the unpredictable June weather.
It blooms slowly and with a swagger, like summer, not hurrying to take its rights. Like summer, the peony is incredibly beautiful and photogenic.
Peonies quickly fade. So does June, unfortunately, which passes unnoticed but leaves behind a treasure trove of vivid memories that warm the soul on long winter evenings.
So yes, June is a lush and magnificent peony in all its glory!
Look at the blooming peony
With crimson petals,
and it will remind you of a magical dream,
A magical dream from a fairy tale full of wonders.
It doesn't burn, but it seems to be on fire,
with its brightly shining petals,
and its fragrance is so strong,
You can bathe in it. (Peonies from my garden)
St Monans pier in the east coast of Fife. It's actually tougher than it looks to photograph this. The waves are very unpredictable and every so often, you get battered with water.
I want you to hold me
Come and lay with me
Set aside your problems with me, baby
Save your conversation for the basement (yeah)
I want you speaking in tongues
You know what they say about those
Ooh, they come together, look we're together
You can't let them slip away
You can't let them slip away
Ooh, a good thing together, so unpredictable
But one thing I know for sure
You turn my sixes to nines
Frequently fly, we can't deny, no
This feeling tonight
I know I weaken when I
When I look in your eye
And you're holding me tight
We're in love, you and I
You turn my sixes to nines
You turn my sixes to nines
I want you to hold me
Ride this with me
Search inside your inhibitions maybe
Sometimes when it feels right (feels right)
Maybe it's alright (alright, alright)
I want you speaking in tongues
Know what they say about those
Ooh, they come together, look we're together
You can't let them slip away
You can't let them slip away
Ooh, a good thing together, so unpredictable
But one thing I know for sure
You turn my sixes to nines
Frequently fly, we can't deny, no
This feeling tonight
I know I weaken when I
When I look in your eye
And you're holding me tight
We're in love, you and I
You turn my sixes to nines
You turn my sixes to nines

I really liked the way its seems the Butterfly is considering leaping across to the blade of grass.
Birdwatching with a camera is a fair bit simpler than its butterfly counterpart. Butterflies have unusual and erratic flight paths, and unpredictable perches; they are more often down, and down low, compared to birds; they are typically very easily flushed from perches; and, like the Tailed Blue, they are often much smaller than they look in the materials one studies before heading out.
That said, they are a lot of fun to observe and to photograph. Every once in a while they will find a prominent perch, and strike a pose that aligns the planes of their wings for a moment. Those are the two leading criteria for me, although there is some evidence that the wings-closed-and-wing-planes-aligned model is less favoured that the wings-open-viewed-from-above-and-behind model - but of a species by species basis.
This has to do with a keenness to view the dorsal rather than the ventral sides of the wings, a keenness rooted as much in the design of the two sides as it is in the butterfly’s behaviours: some species sit habitually with the dorsal (or upper) side open - think of a Monarch, revealing its beautiful deep orange upper wings - while others, like the Tailed Blue here, are often wings closed, with the ventral details prominent.
It has been a lot of fun and some frustration following these creatures around this summer. I have two quick lessons for anyone who hasn’t tried it: dress carefully, with sun protection top of mind (not many butterflies prefer the dark corners of forests); and, like birds, butterflies don’t react well to being chased. If you miss a shot, better to wait for the next one than to try to force the issue and pursue the creature.
Tonight's storms, though less dramatic, are proving to be unpredictable.Sudden high winds and sheets of rain one minute, still and partly sunny the next.Heat and high humidity have been the flavor of the week so far as well.Just proves the familiar adage about midwestern weather-if you don't like the waether, just wait a minute! LOL
I was outside the property standing on an old public road clicking away at this old barn admiring how beautiful it was when an old truck that rattled and spewed black smelly exhaust pulled up next to me. Humans can be unpredictable I didn't know if the old geezer that got out sucking on his foul smelling cigar was going to be nice or not. He must have been close to 100 as was the bucket of bolts. He yells out young lady (now I smile, chuckle, I aint no young lady neither young nor always a lady.) What are you doing?!. He does a stare down as I explain I like to photograph old barns. He went into a tirade about the" tenant "of the property who had well over 100 cats, all over the "d "place he yelled. Ok then it was time to go. His parting remark made me stop and look over and say to him that is a sad story . He glared locking eyes then said the tenant was his daughter and she (wasn't right in the head) his words, so she was as he said put somewhere. Though I try to be invisible around humans as to not be bothered they have some kind of radar and find me to share their story . The property was abandon for some time. I could barley glimpse the beautiful old cottage near the back of the property covered in foliate and trees looking forlorn and definitely forgotten for a very long time. Everyone and everything has vibes, this place was just pure sadness. Though the stranger was quite combative all these years later it was covering something else-pain. I wished him a good day which made him almost smile but not quite and went to my car to head home.
Capturing images of Least Bitterns in flight can be tricky because their impetus and direction of launch is often unpredictable. An exception is during the three-to-four-week period when their hatchlings are on or near the nest, before they have fledged, when they are completely dependent on the parents for food. Then, both parents will follow a cautious but predictable pattern and a flight path that can be anticipated when conditions are right. The adult birds will venture fairly far from the nest area to gather baitfish, which they hold in their gullet prior to feeding the young. On their return, they first perch within sight of the nest and scope the area for any sign of predators (stage one). Once satisfied that the way is clear, they make a bee-line to a spot a few yards from the nest where they blend into to reeds (stage two). Finally, they make their way to the waiting hatchlings and regurgitate the food into their yawning beaks (stage three).
If I am lucky enough to find a nest in a conducive location, I can sit quietly in my kayak close enough to be within feet of the stage two flight path but far enough from the nest to avoid stressing the birds. In this case, luck was with me on Horsepen Bayou.
The weather has been rather unpredictable and dramatic over the last few days here. We have had days of oppressive heat, then humidity. Then, a storm cell came through bringing with it much needed rain, and dampening the high temperatures.
Thankfully, my new "Nahema" rose blooms have been protected from the elements of the last few days, and after just a few days have gone from buds full of promise, to beautiful fluffy blooms of ruffled petals.
"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. It produces masses of highly fragrant and deeply cupped old-fashioned blooms with velvety petals of delicate almond blossom pink. This rose blooms in profusion throughout the season with a strong perfume of citrus, peach, apricot, pear and rose. The renowned perfume of the Guerlain range of perfumes is based on the essence of this rose.

Taken a little earlier in the summer in the South Downs National Park, when there was more sun and less wind. Summers can be very unpredictable in the UK :)
The weather was being very unpredictable this day. The photo in the comments was taken just minutes from this one and from almost the exact same spot.
In the past and in the present you continue to experience so much darkness, so many unpredictable, painful, debilitating and disturbing storms—and there is light too. Thank you for watching for the light in the midst of these storms and please keep looking for light.

Picture me rolling off with love

In February we made our way to Jack Darling Memorial Park and spent a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.
the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us.
In this photo i took the liberty to edit the sign. the man walking didn't send the message that all the walkways were covered in a layer of slippery ice; so i made him slip and fall just like i had been doing.

Watching the Long-tailed Macauqe is fun but you do have to keep your wits about you - - they are a little unpredictable at times - - I'm laying on the the ground as a troop parades by - - ensuring there is no food or anything else to attract them - - as in something to grab - - but they still veered towards with with their curiousity.

Stephen and I visited WWT Caerlaverock near Dumfries today, where we met up with Allan (DorsetBirder), one of my first Flickr contacts and a lovely man, and it was a privilege to meet him and share some of his amazing knowledge.
Unfortunately the weather was typically unforgiving for the time of the year, bitterly cold with a chilling wind, and then the rain came...
Barnacle Geese were plentiful in flocks overhead, but hardly visible on the ground, and I was disappointed not to capture any, but such is the unpredictability of being a bird and wildlife photographer!
So, here is a birdless composition, and have a fabulous weekend everyone! :-))

His appearances are highly unpredictable. A week can go by and he will suddenly appear. One thing I can generally predict is that if he comes in once, he will probably come in several times over a fairly short period so I can grab my camera and get out there.

There is fear. But I do not know the cause of that fear.
After conquering the 150.92-kilometer (93.77-mile) extended W trek in 6 days, I finally escaped the stunning, yet brutal, beauty of Torres del Paine, Chile. The hike was undoubtedly challenging, with steep ascents, river crossings, and unpredictable weather. But the rewards were immeasurable. The panoramic views of the mountains, glaciers, and lakes were simply breathtaking, and I'll cherish the memories I made with my fellow hikers forever. After a quick 1-hour and 15-minute drive back to Puerto Natales, southern Chile, I ditched my heavy backpack and indulged in a well-deserved feast. The next morning, I was up bright and early, ready to conquer the border crossing into Argentina. A 6-hour and 48-minute journey later, I arrived at my next destination: the jaw-dropping Perito Moreno Glacier, the los Glaciares National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
If you thought the Grey Glacier in Torres del Paine was impressive, wait until you see this ice behemoth! Both glaciers are part of the same massive ice field, making Patagonia a true ice lover's paradise. Perito Moreno is like a small country made entirely of ice.
The 250 km² (97 sq mi) ice formation, 30 km (19 mi) long, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes mountain range, which it shares with Chile, which has a small part of the glacier's origin. This ice field is the world's third-largest reserve of fresh water and the third largest ice cap in the world after Antarctica and Greenland. The Southern Patagonian Ice Field stretches approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) from north to south, covers roughly 16,800 square kilometers (6,500 square miles), and generally sits at an elevation of around 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. Since 2020, the glacier has been retreating on its northern front, possibly due to climate change. It was previously one of the few unusual glaciers that maintained a state of equilibrium during the late 20th and early 21st centuries because it was accumulating mass at a rate similar to its loss. The reason for its unusually long period of stability remains debated by glaciologists.
The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 meters (558 ft).
I'm still reeling from the sheer size and otherworldly beauty of this icy giant. Stay tuned for more updates from my Patagonian adventure!
The weather has been rather unpredictable and dramatic over the last few days here. We have had days of oppressive heat, then humidity. Then, yesterday afternoon a storm cell came through bringing with it much needed rain, and dampening the high temperatures.
Thankfully, my new "Nahema" rose blooms have been protected from the harsh sun of the last few days, and received a much needed drench last night. This is how I found one of the fresh blooms this morning: bejewelled by glorious raindrops.

Photographed in the reedbed at RSPB Frampton Marsh {Lincolnshire, UK}. These birds are tricky to photograph as they are unpredictable and move very quickly!
I've taken plenty of photos of Brown Creepers, but this is my first in-flight shot of one. These birds are fascinating to observe as they climb up trees in search of insects, their movements erratic and unpredictable. When in-flight, they transform into a completely different creature, spreading their wings to reveal a striking appearance.
This photo shoot Friday at my local beach did not appear to be very promising. It was windy, cloudy, and the ocean didn't seem to be very inviting for photography. I left and was driving home only to look out my window to see a bit of color so I drove down the nearest road back to the ocean. This scene suddenly manifested after a few minutes. This was my last photo of the otherwise uninspiring evening.

An homage to American Minimalist composer, Terry Riley. Title taken from a title of one of his pieces appearing on his "Shri Camel" album of 1980. A fantastic album of sonorities rarely heard in Western 12-tone based music. The keyboards were tuned to "Just Intonation" allowing for scales and timbres that sound to the Western ear like they're all vaguely out of tune, so to speak. These micro-tones are used a lot in non-Western music, particularly evident in Classical Indian and Chinese musics.
Collection of Roger and Rilla Mulligan, Thessalon, Ontario, Canada.

This is an unpredictable species that appears throughout the season. If you haven't read this fun (true) story of a friendly Red Admiral ... it's worth your time:

The ocean, the sky, the weather are unpredictable at the beach. A photographer must go often to experience the various moods. Sometimes it's almost ho-hum but other times, as in this particular evening, the time of the Super Tide, it becomes a magical experience.

I took this photo while exploring the pier and marina area at Mornington, Victoria. What started off as a overcast and rainy day developed into a pleasant sunny late afternoon. Such is the ever unpredictable climate of Melbourne, where the phrase "four seasons in one day" is often used in jest when referring to the weather.
Florida weather can be unpredictable. Just seconds after this photo was taken the skies opened up with extremely heavy rain.
