As excited as the kids are for our upcoming move trip to Montana, I can see the stress of change starting to creep in. (Must have something to do with the bags, boxes and piles around the house). So now is a good time for me to unplug, focus my attention on their tender hearts, and settle our family into a new way of living. I’ll be back sometime next week or the week after.

See you in Montana. 🌌

It's about 2 or 3 am and I burn 3 of my fingers but I still have to pack because I'm leaving the next morning to Florence. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep. Thank goodness I was able to find a pharmacy the next morning to take care of it. That gel and band-aids were a lifesaver. You look at my hand now and you can barely see the burn.

This duck was one of a family that swam right up to the dock on Sunday morning, just as if we weren't there. After the others had climbed over the dock and back into the water, this last one remained behind for a while. See the footprints picture.

My coffeepot. I show this as an example of how I unplug all of my smaller appliances when they are not in use. Unplugging things when not in use is a great energy-saver.

(Yes, I also unplug the microwave, and also my TV and DVD player – they’re plugged into an adapter together so that both cords can be pulled out at once. This works well since I hardly ever watch it – I don’t have cable, so I only watch DVDs).

Photos from Bridewell, the abandoned police station. From Friday it'll be the venue for 12 days of Xmas, a crazy show with over 40 street artists taking over the cells and the office spaces.... it's a very creepy space, very cold, very atmospheric, and I'm so lucky to have the chance to take pics. I might be putting some pics in there - so I'd love it if you could look at the set and tell me which ones are the best.....

"i miss yellow lines in my roads

some color on monochrome

maybe i’ll paint them in myself

and in the daylight we can hitchhike to maine

i hope that someday i’ll see without these frames

and in the daylight i don’t pick up my phone

cause in the daylight anywhere feels like home

i have five clocks in my life

and only one has the time right

i’ll just unplug it for today"

taking black and white photo, it's been two years but for my first roll back, not too bad.

the black specks are due to the bulk film my teacher buys because our school can't afford good film haha

Sure it's thick, padded with all those ads. It makes me feel like I'm getting my $1.50 worth. But the ads aren't why I like the paper. In fact, the ads are pretty much useless since I don't have money to spend on what they're advertising.

I could appreciate this particular paper for its LIFE section, where all the engagements, births, horoscopes, and weddings are listed, but no, that probably wouldn't be accurate. (I did find out today that a girl I went to high school with was married last month, though. Huh, go figure.)

...the crossword puzzle is larger than the ones that run during the week, but that's not my favorite part. (I don't think I have ever finished a Sunday crossword in this newspaper.)

...wanna know what I think it is about the Sunday paper?

It makes me take quiet time for myself. Unplug, sign off, and focus on something tangible.

The ancient castle of Carpiano near Gubbio in Italy dates back to 10th Century. Having subsequently been abandoned for many decades, Riccardo & Marilisa Parisi discovered the old hamlet in 2001 and immediately fell in love with that "pile of rocks". Beyond the careful and stunningly beautiful restoration of its buildings, they have also created the "Borgo di Carpiano" - by far our favourite place to take a holiday and "un-plug".
