So... My internet was down for nearly a whole decade. I took loads of photo's over this weekend and had no chance to upload as we are getting our floor done so had to unplug the net. I tell you what, living without flickr is harder than you'd imagine!!
I am now updating my 365, so i know most of these have been uploaded on the same day, but they have the right intentions.
So this is Ash and Andy pretending to have a fight, in Trafalgar Square, completely frozen. We went to London today to do some filming for an NYT music video that was being sent to the opening night in Bejing, for the Olympics, as a reprsentitive of the National Youth Theatre. We were only filming for an hour or so, so we figured we'd make a day of it. and we did. We went to lunch, went to Banksy's Tunnel, did a bit of shop browsing (Abercrombe & Fitch Style), and then went to trafalgar suare and did this; 'this' being freezing in watchable positions, in the middle of London. First it started small, just stopping infront of groups of people as they walked by so they'd get confused and have to walk round you, to walking into each other pretending to start a fight, then freezing in a confrontational position (as shown in the photo, only it doesn't look that impressive as photo's are still anyway). But it was was impressive :-) some people thoguth we were a street act and threw some money for us, some posed with us for a photograph, and some just stood watching for ages. Aw, the things we do to entertain ourselves.

This week I had very little time for photography... just work work work! Since I wasn't able to get away from work to enjoy my hobby, I combined my hobby and love for photography with work :-)
I took my camera with me to the office and snapped a few today!

went out to unplug the christmas lights and ended up shooting some... in a t-shirt. in december. thank goodness it wasn't that cold.
Just about done! When it's finished you unplug the popper, snap on the black plastic cap that covers the butter well (which is about to be the bottom of the bowl instead of the top of the popper). Using potholders, you take the handles, holding the bowl in place, and flip the thing over. Then you lift off the popper, leaving behind a bowl of beautiful popcorny goodness. A few pinches of kosher salt, and voila! Popcorn as they made it back in the days of the Colonists!
(Yes, the Colonists had electric corn poppers. Weird that they didn't use electricity for anything else, but then, the Colonists could be kind of weird that way.)

This past weekend I took a friend on her first backpacking trip ever! We enjoyed one night along the Hoh River, at Five Mile Island. Upon setting up camp she decided to take a nap, which allowed me opportunity to wander and photograph. It was utter joy to unplug (though I'd argue I was really plugging in) and lose myself in the landscape.
What did I find? Fall is here. Vine maples splashed brilliant colors, catching my eye. Like magnets, my feet moved towards them. Moss hung heavy and green in the trees. Through them, the haunting bugle of elk. I watched the river for long spells. Forgetting everything. Totally content. My focus only interurrped by dashing dippers, stopping at river's edge to eat larvae off the rocks. Wind through the leaves, clouds settling in.
That night, a light drizzle fell. Torrential downpour began at 4am. I awoke with a start, certain the river was at my tent, threatening to wash me away. Alas, just very heavy rain. Disorienting. My headlamp out I inspected all corners of my tent, no water. Sleep returned slowly.
In the morning, I discovered my tent was caked with mud and debris from the hard-splashing rain. I also discovered my friend still smiling. Her gear had held up without issue, and she was still having fun. Despite the rain. Success.
Do you remember your first backpacking trip? Those first trips are so important. They plant the seeds of desire for tomorrow's adventures. My first overnight trip was to Discovery Lake in the Olympics. A bushwhack with my brother and dad. It rained. Our tent leaked. I was cold. But those details pale in comparison to my memories of wandering around the lake. Taking pictures. Writing in my journal. Discovering I liked backpacking, discovering I wanted to do more of it. Seeds planted, desire sprouted.
