Returning from New Year's festivities we went up to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Fancy Gap. The fog was thick but not impossible. Slowly we made our way.

A trio of Housatonic Geeps sit outside the Canaan engine house, two of them still wearing the green and yellow colors that had been long absent from the high iron at the time.
Since this shot, HRRC has acquired a trio of smartly-painted GP15s, and the three units pictured here were removed from the shop area and shoved into long-term storage. Time will tell what their future holds, but its hard to imagine them ever running again.
Three-masted topsail schooner Oosterschelde (1917) started her Darwin 200 mission, 200 years after the famous Beagle journey, with a very young Charles Darwin on board in August 2023.
Currently, she is at the Falkland Islands.

Falco sparverius male carrying Jerusalem Cricket (or Potato Bug) of genus Stenopelmatus,
San Luis Obispo Co., California
I happened onto a kestrel nest site while I was patiently watching some other birds at a nest nearby. I went back regularly in May and watched as the adults occasionally brought back food for the nestlings. At the earlier stages both male and female adult would perch like this briefly before going into the nest hole, enabling at least a brief look at what they were carrying. Mostly Jerusalem Crickets (which are mainly nocturnal to my understanding!). During later stages of feeding the nestlings, there was no pausing at this ledge, so I was hopelessly uncertain what was coming in, as well as being stymied for photography.
Adrift in a small boat, coasting through the wondrous bayous--peaceful, still, quiet, yet also visually almost cacophonous with the warm late afternoon light striking such a wonderful clutter of natural beauties, in Carter Lake, near Uncertain, Texas.
While the technical merits of this handheld shot fall farther short than usual, the feelings and memories that attach to it rank highly. This was from my first outing beginning to explore these mysterious and magnificent swamps a couple of years ago, and it was enthralling. So wild-seeming one moment, then somehow almost garden-like the next. In the area where I took this shot, rife as it was lily pads and profusions of color in every direction, I thought it was something like a rust-hued Giverny, but with the added pleasure of all that magnificent moss!

Syria is currently facing an ease of the conflict, while being crippled by a growing economic crisis - also fuelled by a long lasting embargo. Land where the interests of many crossed over the years, the price is paid by its citizens
First generation Falcon. Protomachine flashlight. I had a cherry one of these when I was a teenager. Rolled it into a ditch on a dirt road within the first month I had it.
I came across this old barn in the rural Melcher-Dallas (Iowa) area, but don't remember exactly where. One of those gravel roads that turns into a "Class B" non-maintained county road. It's definitely unused, so it maybe has another 10 years before it completely falls-in.

Common Indian Babbler was the most common bird of Indian cities.Along with rapid urbanization & increase of air pollution this bird getting fewer day by day.
One of the coolest things about PanAm Railways is their beautiful office car train, led by two SHARP F-Units. Every now and then, the OCS would go to Boston North Station and the MBTA's Boston Engine Terminal. Many of my friends were able to nail this shot, but for whatever reason, I always had something going on. In November of last year, I had appointments in the morning, and got word the OCS was heading to town. After a long and patient wait, I thought I was going to get Panammed, when all of a sudden they began backing down the correct track. The crew put the train right where I needed it to get this signature shot of them with the Zakim Bridge, and the iconic Boston Sand and Gravel. With the impending sale of PAR to CSXT, let us hope the future is still bright for these F units to polish the rails. No matter what happens, I am very glad I hustled into town at rush hour this cold November day.

Uncertain world is a mural painted by Bristol-bases artist Alex Lucas, also known as Lucas Antics.
The mural imagines a potential future world colliding with that of the very deep past - the Jurassic - with carbon dioxide concentrations as high as they could be at the end of this century.
Should I say hi?
I usually go to visit the dragonflies when I am back to Singpaore... Not this trip though. Too little time. :(
Will the fog dissipate? A misty foggy morning at the top of Machu Picchu, Peru.
And so is this pandemic, when will it ends? Will it has a second wave, hopefully not! Wishing everybody a good health, take care and stay safe.

One day walking along the road behind my cottage I met a red fox. She came ambling along a ridge beside the road and paused to look at me. She appeared to be in peak health, relatively large, and the handsomest wild fox I've ever seen. When I quickly mounted my zoom lens, she turned to go.
I clicked my tongue to attract her attention. She became curious and began to approach me. Partway down the slope, she sat and kindly provided a photo op. Her behaviour was more cat-like than dog-like: feigned nonchalance, sniffing a blade of grass, gazing past me in the direction she seemed to want to go.
Then she got up and proceeded along the ridge, but that way led into dense undergrowth, which she disliked. As if to say, "Screw this!" she returned and descended to the road, not 10 feet from where I stood. The encounter became awkward for both of us. She looked away uncertainly.
Then she began walking toward me. I couldn't tell whether she wanted to pass me or was curious about my tripod, standing a few feet behind me. Anyway, not wanting a wild animal to come any closer, I finally lost my nerve and stamped my foot.
As if with a shrug, she went up the slope instead and vanished into the undergrowth. I was left in the road, trembling with excitement. Also I was embarrassed because in a contest of coolness and courtesy, I lost.
I'm sorting through old photos from a period (of years) when I wasn't processing or sharing them much. I'm deleting a lot but will post any of particular interest.
Looking into an uncertain future. Questioning. Doubting. Longing.
As much as we we crave the illusion of certainty, uncertain it stays.
However, that scary not-knowing comes with a positive. We tend to focus on the worst case scenario but remember... your future may turn out even better than your wildest dreams (most likely it will). 🌈
I took this self portrait on the magical little island of Cyprus. According to legends, Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was born here.
So, may your coming year be full of love and beauty, despite or rather because of the uncertainties of life we're all facing. And may you grow into the god or goddess you were meant to be ✨
