The city: all the things that constitute the city, ivy creeping over a wall, manhole covers, or a solid steel frame structure seen from a moving car, once momentarily illuminated by a single flash of light within the darkness, they seem to be beginning to revolt on their own perhaps. But this is nothing more than a fleeting hallucination. When morning comes, blanketed with daylight, these again return to “things” as the necessary conditions constituting the city.

Lollapalooza dropped its 2019 lineup this morning and what a doozy it is. While it shares all of Coachella’s headliners, the four-day festival is able to expand its variety with an extra day and also digs deeper for some serious talent.

In addition to Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, and Tame Impala, Lollapalooza is also bringing twenty one pilots, The Strokes, Flume, The Chainsmokers, and J Balvin for a seriously diverse and impressive headliner lineup.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the first two lines. Examining further down reveals Madeon, RUFUS DU SOL, Gud Vibrations vs Slugz Music, Alesso, RL Grime, San Holo, and even a new live show from Ducky. And that’s just the dance music.

Lollapalooza also has Bring Me The Horizon, signaling the return of lead singer Oliver Sykes after he ruptured a vocal chord on tour in February. This, in addition to Death Cab For Cutie, Maggie Rogers, Fitz And The Tantrums, Hozier, Tenacious D, and more.

Tickets are on sale now — check out the official Spotify playlist for the festival here.

Impedance, it’s a fairly straight forward concept, all electrical circuits and components resist the flow of electricity (or current) to some degree and the way we measure that resistance is impedance. The unit of measurement of impedance are ohms, often symbolized by the Greek letter omega: Ω. All pretty simple, right? Well, there’s still many misconceptions around the topic of impedance when it comes to speakers. The biggest of which is that your receiver’s impedance is something that you need to keep in mind when you are buying speakers. The truth is, since your receiver is the source of power in your system, its impedance is negligible. There isn’t sufficient circuitry or components between where the power is being amplified inside your receiver to the speaker outputs for any significant impedance to build up. So when people ask “how do I match the impedance of my receiver to my speakers”, they aren’t really asking the right question.

A Quick Intro to Speaker Impedance

Now speakers on the other hand, do in fact have measurable impedance because of the crossover network and the impedance of the drivers themselves. If you’re shopping around for speakers and take a look at the specs, you’ll notice that most speakers are rated between 4 and 8 ohms. Since impedance is a measure of how much the speaker resists current, the lower the impedance in ohms, the more power the speaker will draw from your receiver. Because of that a 4 ohm speaker is considered more “power hungry” and will tax your amp more than a 6 or 8 ohm speaker. Since a 4 ohm speaker takes more power than an 8 ohm speaker, you may be wondering why anyone would design a 4 ohm speaker. To answer that question we need to dig a little deeper into what it really means when we label a speaker as “4 ohm” or “8 ohm”.

Speaker Impedance is Really Just an Average

The reality is that a speaker’s impedance will actually vary quite widely depending on which frequencies it is producing. There are a few reasons for this, but there are two main factors. First, every driver has a resonant frequency at which is moves freely once it is tapped or otherwise engaged. At that frequency the free movement of the driver generates what is known as “back electromotive force” which opposes the flow of current and creates a large spike in impedance. The other cause for impedance variance is an increase in inductance of the voice coil at higher frequencies which also causes the impedance to go up. To illustrate this, take a look at the impedance graph of our Verus II Grand Bookshelf. There are three big impedance peaks in the graph, which correspond to the resonance frequencies of the port, woofer and tweeter moving right to left. Then on the left hand side of the graph you can see a gradual rise as the frequencies get higher due to inductance. Looking at the graph one thing should be clear, there’s a wide range of impedance values across the speaker’s frequency response and that’s true for nearly all speakers. So when we say that the speaker’s impedance is “6 ohms”, what do we mean? Well if you look closely, you can see that the impedance only dips below 6 ohms ever so briefly around 200 Hz. For the rest of the frequency response, the impedance is well above 6 ohms. Because of that, we can say the speaker has a “nominal” impedance of 6 ohms. That is, the speaker’s impedance will not be below 6 ohms for the vast majority of the time. For further reading, you can check out more technical details behind speaker impedance here.

So going back to the original question, why did we make a 6 ohm speaker when we could have just designed an 8 ohm speaker and had it draw less power? The honest truth is that we would have had to make sacrifices in terms of sound in order to get the impedance higher. Which is more important, a speaker that we feel delivers the signature Aperion sound that our customers know and love, or a speaker that is slightly easier to drive? Of course we chose sound as the most crucial attribute for our speakers. The thing is, there really aren’t any hard and fast rules when it comes to nominal impedance. I have no doubt that there are in fact speakers out there that are labeled as “8 ohms” that have impedance graphs with dips the same or more severe as our curve. Here at Aperion, we like to be honest and not overstate specs, but of course the same can’t be said for every speaker manufacturer out there. Fudging specs aside, even a speaker that is unquestionable 8 ohm would not draw that much less power than our Verus II Grand Bookshelf. Especially when you consider that listening volumes are a much larger factor. Johnny Rocker who listens to his 8 ohm speakers at 110 dB is absolutely taxing his amp more than someone listening to a 6 ohm speaker at a reasonable volume.

The Receiver Impedance Setting

Wait, my receiver has an impedance setting? I thought you said my receiver doesn’t really have any significant impedance? That’s absolutely correct! So then, just what is that impedance setting in your receiver doing? You may be shocked to learn that the only thing setting your receiver impedance to 4 ohms does is to lower the receiver’s maximum power output. Yep, that’s right, by going with the lower impedance setting you are actually telling your receiver to hold back the juice and are reducing the overall performance of your system. For that reason, we recommend going with the higher impedance setting in just about every case. You paid good money for your receiver, you may as well get all the power that it can provide. Now there are some extreme cases where you may have a speaker that can dip down into sub 4 ohm impedance for significant portions of their curves. In those rare cases, you may want to actually go with the 4 ohm setting. However, with most modern receivers if the speakers are really trying to draw more power than is available, the receiver will usually go into protection mode and shut off before it, or the speakers, start melting down.

It’s All About the Current Capability

Instead of getting lost in the weeds with the impedance spec, it’s better to take a step back and look at the most important thing your receiver provides and your speakers need; power. If you have a receiver that is a high current design capable of delivering 100 watts/channel or better without distorting, you don’t have anything to worry about in regards to under-powering a speaker that is rated at 6 or 8 ohms. Another thing to keep in mind when considering power is that there are actually two components to a watt, current and voltage. The voltage is what the receiver gets from the wall outlet, but it’s the current that feeds your speakers. A high quality receiver will deliver consist levels of current, cleanly and without introducing unacceptable levels of noise or distortion. How can you tell if a receiver is honestly rated and capable of delivering the current your speakers crave? Good question, that’s a topic we’ll take a deep dive into in next week’s blog, see you then!

Has Sushant Singh Rajput’s Chandamama Door Ke been shelved or indefinitely postponed?

Sushant Singh Rajput’s space odyssey Chandamama Door Ke directed by Sanjay Puran Chauhan and produced by Viki Rajani’s NextGen Films and Eros, appears to be in trouble before it has taken off. The science fiction drama was slated to release on January 26, 2018 and the shooting was supposed to begin from July this year. Later it got postponed to October. In the current scenario it looks unlikely that the shoot will start from next month and release within three months, with Sushant Singh Rajput giving his dates away for Kedarnath (November-December) and Drive (October).

The first hiccup began when one of Sushant’s co-actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui left the film a month before shooting started. Now buzz is that the film isn’t taking off because of lack of funds. However producer Viki Rajani denies the rumour and says the project will roll once the loose ends are tied up. Apart from Sushant Singh Rajput, now only R Madhavan has been confirmed for the film. He went to the US Space & Rocket Centre in Alabama to start his preparation for the film.

Says a trade source, “One thing appears certain – Chandamama Door Ke won’t begin from October as was scheduled. It has been indefinitely postponed for the moment. It’s too early to say that it’s shelved as the makers are still in the process of putting it together. It’s an extremely expensive film with a budget of over Rs. 70 crore (approx) + P&A. While it’s a fascinating story of India’s brave astronauts who set out on a mission to the moon on a journey that brings the nation together, it’s an ambitious project. Viki, Sushant and the director don’t want to give it up completely as they feel passionately about the story and they have all personally invested in it heavily, in terms of money, time and creative inputs. But it looks tough as Chandamama Door Ke is a film where you can’t cut costs. The question also arises whether Sushant will get the producers their revenue as he doesn’t have much of a market, post Raabta.”

The source adds that Sushant Singh Rajput, who is currently shooting for Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, is supposed to complete the schedule by October 5, return and start shooting for his next film, Tarun Mansukhani’s Drive. Once that schedule is complete he was supposed to being shooting for Chandamama Door Ke but now that seems quite unlikely. “Sushant’s management agency is trying to sort out dates between four films – Chandamama Door Ke, Drive, Kedarnath and Abhishek Chaubey’s untitled next and it’s all looking very tough. Sushant Singh Rajput was dropped from Ajay Kapoor and Bunty Walia’s Romeo Akbar Walter because he was trying to sort out his dates and kept postponing the film and now this new problem has arisen. Chandamama Door Ke was to begin in July this year but nothing was apparently ready, from the cast to the finance required for the high cost of the film. In fact, buzz is that Sushant financed the trip to NASA, in USA, in July from his own pocket when he visited it, for his research. While co-producer Eros had announced the project, they are yet to green light the film until they are fully convinced of the script and the budget. Also finalizing star cast, pre-production details etc before the film can finally go on floor. The lead actress hasn’t been signed and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role still hasn’t been filled, so how on earth will Chandamama Door Ke begin from October this year?”

Chandamama Door Ke co-producer Viki Rajani says, “We sent Sushant to NASA and we have already invested a lot in the movie. Chandamama Door Ke is a mammoth project and requires a lot of pre-production and planning as its complex and VFX heavy. We yet have to finalize cast and have a lock on the budget and final script. We are working it and can plan execution once all these details are sorted.”

So when will the project roll? Viki Rajani says, “It’s difficult to say as lots to be locked. Once we sort these loose ends.” Will Chandamama Door Ke begin by this year? “Let’s see how it goes.”

A teaser from Tomorrowland last Friday had people thinking that Swedish House Mafia could soon be added to the lineup this year; however, news from the festival has debunked the rumors, as Tomorrowland has announced its own radio show “One World Radio” for the festival’s 15th anniversary. (Swedish House Mafia might still play Tomorrowland, but this isn’t about that.)

The radio show is, of course, based in Belgium, and so official streaming began at 4am PST. It was launched by none other than Dim Mak head Steve Aoki, who took to the decks at the holy grounds of De Schorre in Boom, next to Zephyr, the magical hot air balloon in the shape of the Tomorrowland icon.

Listeners who tune into Tomorrowland One World Radio will find a generous portion of music and content at any time of day, all created by the team behind Tomorrowland with a mix featuring a range of hosts, shows and specials. Thanks to the strong ties with all the national and international DJ’s and producers, Tomorrowland One World Radio is destined to become the ‘home of the artists’. Everyone from the biggest names to fresh new talent will be part of the platform, by creating exclusive mixes, releasing new tracks and even hosting their own shows.

For example, the Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren will kick off the weekend with an exclusive Weekend Mix on Fridays. The Australian DJ sisters Nervo will present The One World Radio Top 30: every weekend, you’ll get a rundown of the 30 most popular dance hits selected by the People of Tomorrow. And every day, you’ll be treated to a guest mix on ‘One World Radio Invites’.

Armin Van Buuren :

“Besides DJ-ing and shows, I love to create radio. A couple of times already at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, I’ve received the award for ‘Best Mix Radio Show’ for A State of Trance. By the way, I’ll also be bringing ASOT to Tomorrowland this summer when I host my own stage and I’ve done live radio from the festival a few times now. It’s fantastic that I’ll get to appear every Friday now on Tomorrowland One World Radio with my own Weekend Mix.”

Tomorrowland :

“Tomorrowland One World Radio is an incredibly important project for Tomorrowland.During the festival weekends, millions of people around the world tune in to our live-stream and the numbers keep growing each year. By launching this content project, on the occasion of our 15th anniversary, from now on we’ll be able to offer a way to connect with the Tomorrowland community daily, and we’ll adapt our programming and music to the time of day. With unique content and mixes that you won’t hear anywhere else, combined with the absolute highlights from 15 years of Tomorrowland history. Both live and on demand, so it’s perfectly tailored to the tastes of young listeners. We’ve been working on this project for two years and we’re so excited to finally unveil it to the world.”

Want to listen to ‘the sound of the festival’ all day long on Tomorrowland One World Radio? You can, from February 18 to August 31, with the new Tomorrowland app, on Tomorrowland.com.

Taapsee Pannu all set to star opposite Diljit Dosanjh in the untitled Shaad Ali film

After OK Jaanu, Shaad Ali is gearing up for yet another film. Considering that sports genre is the flavor of the season, the filmmaker has decided to explore the same in his next movie. With Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles, his next film will trace the life story of Sandeep Singh.

The role of renowned medalist hockey player Sandeep Singh who was also the former captain of the Indian Hockey Team will be essayed by Diljit Dosanjh with Taapsee playing the role of the woman who inspires him to play the sport. However, this one will not be a biopic and it will focus more on the love story that revolves around Taapsee and Diljit, both of whom would be playing hockey players in the film. It will be co-produced by Chitrangda Singh along with Sneha Rajani.

For the uninitiated, let us remind you that Sandeep Singh is a hockey player who faced serious injury by an accidental gunshot in August 2006 when he travelling to join the national team. The Haryana based player was in wheelchair for about two years but with the support of one of his friends, a female hockey player, he went on to once again return to the game and even earned a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010.

We hear that the two actors will undergo extensive training and Sandeep Singh himself will train Diljit Dosanjh for the film. The hockey player is expected to help Diljit learn some of his important on-field moves and a meeting between the two has apparently been scheduled in the forthcoming month. On the other hand, considering that Taapsee too plays a hockey player she too will have to train in the sport and will kick start the same once she finishes off her other work commitments.

From what we hear, this untitled venture is slated to go on floor in October and will be extensively shot in Punjab.

“thank u, next” — Ariana Grande has reportedly dropped out of the 2019 Grammy Awards. She was set to perform at the 61st annual ceremony, the biggest night in music. But, it’s Ariana’s way or the highway.

According to sources, she felt “insulted” when the producers of the show didn’t agree with her song selection. Reports say Ari was all about performing her latest single “7 Rings,” but the Grammys was not. Later, they agreed to a medley which included the pop star’s smash song “thank u, next.” Still, they couldn’t reach an agreement.

This isn’t the first time the Grammys has been slammed for failing to give artists creative control. Last year, Lorde pulled the plug on her performance when she wasn’t able to sing her own song during the ceremony. Producers wanted her to be part of a Tom Petty tribute instead. Mind you, she was nominated for Album of the Year for her work on Melodrama. She described the whole ordeal as a “slap in the face.”

Thankfully, this year’s show won’t be a total bust. Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott, Mark Ronson (and Miley Cyrus?), Camila Cabello and more are all expected to perform live. Post Malone will take the stage with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and country legend Dolly Parton will share a tribute with her talented friends.

Ariana Grande is still set to headline Coachella this year. So, she’s good.

Airbnb is a wonderful service that provides a necessary alternative to traditional hotels for hundreds of thousands of people per year. However, even with all its safeguards in place, there is still a risk of abuse of the system. One London couple learned this the hard way when 120 people showed up to a drug-fueled rave at their $3.2 million apartment which ended up being raided by police.

The guest was supposedly to use the apartment to host a small group of women to celebrate a pregnancy and upcoming wedding. She was described as “soft spoken” by owner Elisabeth Sterling. Unfortunately, the reality ended up being much different. The home was reportedly overrun by over a hundred party-goers high on nitrous who verbally abused Sterling.

“I feel violated,” the host said. “I can’t think of it without shaking. I consider myself a super hostess and always go the extra mile for my guests.

“Airbnb has been an easy way of earning money while I write a book, but this has shattered my trust — and my faith in my own judgment.”

Police were called and eventually kicked the party-goers out, but not without the help of a court order, which had to be acquired after officers arrived. No arrests were made and the crowd was dispersed, but thousands of dollars of damage was done to the apartment.

“I saw four well-dressed men smoking joints. I was confused because it was supposed to be just women inside. I asked what they were doing there and one said, ‘It’s a surprise.’ I asked him to turn the music off, but it just kept getting louder. I was furious.

“I tried to get into the house, but I was jostled and threatened as I forced my way through,” Sterling said. “Three tall girls kept asking, ‘Who are you, b**ch?’ I shouted that I was the owner of the house.”

Airbnb said in a statement provided to The Metro, “We have zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour, have suspended the guest from our platform while we investigate and are providing the host with our full support under our Host Guarantee.”

Hopefully both Sterling and Airbnb use this as a lesson to more carefully screen their guests.

2018 has been an exciting year for Overwatch esports, but as they say: it’s not over until it’s over. Before the 2019 Overwatch League season begins, there’s one more season of Overwatch Contenders Australia to play, and it promises to be action-packed!

Many new teams have joined the roster for the upcoming season, with Team Athletico (formerly Masterminds GC) and Heist (formerly Dark Sided) to name are few. Blank Esports is set to make its return from Contenders Pacific to play in Contenders Australia for the first time, while back-to-back champion, Sydney Drop Bears, is looking as strong as ever, despite star DPS, Kelsey “Colourhex” Birse, transferring to the Boston Uprising Overwatch League team and newly-signed Overwatch World Cup tank, Ashley “Trill” Powell, moving to NA Contenders’ Team Envy. Additionally, brand new teams from Trials have earned their place in Contenders this season.

With so many player movements and organisation changes, Season 3 is shaping up to be the most thrilling yet. You won’t want to miss the action starting today at: https://www.twitch.tv/overwatchcontenders.

The twelve teams competing are as follows (also viewable here under the Australia tab):

Sydney Drop Bears

Mindfreak (formerly Sandbaggers from Trials)

Kraken (Trials)

Legacy Esports

Athletico (formerly Masterminds GC)

Blank Esports (Trials)

Heist (formerly Dark Sided)

Freshman Class (Trials)

Breakaway Esports (formerly Tainted Minds)

Kanga Esports

Melbourne Mavericks (formerly Serenity)

ORDER

In addition to exciting Overwatch Contenders Australia changes, viewers can expect some broader updates from this season:

New Contenders

National citizens and legal residents of Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are now eligible to play in Contenders. This is an exciting new chapter for the program, and we look forward to seeing even more players plotting their course on the Path to Pro as Overwatch esports continues to expand around the world.

The Floor is Lava

TorbjÃļrn is back, and more molten than ever before. Everyone’s favourite engineer and his baby trusty turret have a new look in Contenders Season 3, and it remains to be seen how teams will choose to utilise the powerful area-denial potential and armour shred. TorbjÃļrn isn’t the only hero coming into the new season sporting changes, however. Pharah, McCree, Soldier: 76, Orisa, and Brigitte have also been tweaked, which heats up an already spicy competitive meta.

Battle in Busan

Contenders Season 3’s map pool includes the recently added control map, Busan. This will be the first time we see the map at the Contenders level and, much like Rialto in Contenders Season 2 and the Overwatch World Cup Group Stages, it should lead to some entertaining exchanges as teams try and figure out the best strategies for the new map.

Below is the full map pool for Contenders Season 3:

Control: Busan, Ilios, Lijiang Tower

Hybrid: Hollywood, Numbani

Assault: Hanamura, Horizon Lunar Colony

Escort: Dorado, Route 66

Tiebreaker: Nepal

With a new map, updated heroes, and new player stories, Contenders Season 3 promises to be an exciting way to close out the 2018 season. Clear your schedule, because you’ve got Contenders to watch.

Take a moment to follow the official Contenders Twitch channel, and tune into the official Path to Pro Twitter for more updates.

Ajay Devgn clarifies about storming out in anger from The Kapil Sharma Show

There have been many stories from the sets of The Kapil Sharma Show off late when Bollywood biggies have walked off the sets. We had reported earlier that Baadshaho cast including Ajay Devgn stormed out of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show The Kapil Sharma Show when the host failed to appear on the shooting day. Many reports also suggested that Ajay Devgn left in anger.

Ajay Devgn, who is promoting his film along with others in New Delhi, was asked about the incident about Kapil Sharma not showing up and them storming out of the sets of the show. Speaking about the same, Ajay informed that they did walk out because Kapil Sharma had not reached the sets. Even they were not aware of what had happened and why Kapil did not appear.

But, Ajay Devgn did clarify the reports claiming that Baadshaho cast storming out of anger was completely wrong. He said that there was no anger as even they have heard that Kapil Sharma has not been keeping well. Ajay did say that they are unsure whether they will be back on the show as many shoots had been cancelled earlier. Ajay, lastly, added that the next time he meets Kapil, they will figure it out as at the end of the day, they are colleagues and friends.

Earlier, Kapil Sharma had cancelled Jab Harry Met Sejal promotions despite Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma already on the sets. Even Toilet: Ek Prem Katha lead actors Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar had to leave without shooting the episode. Even Mubarakan cast faced the similar situation when Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and others were on the sets of the show.

Directed by Milan Luthria, Baadshaho also stars Emraan Hashmi, Ileana D’cruz, Esha Gupta, Vidyut Jammwal, Sanjay Mishra. The film is releasing this Friday, September 1.

Ariana Grande‘s new song “7 Rings” is making headlines for all sorts of reasons — one being that it absolutely crushed Spotify‘s 24-hour streaming record.

According to stats revealed by Spotify, Ariana’s most recent single racked up nearly 15 million plays on January 18, the day it released. “7 Rings” acquired 14,966,544 global plays in 24 hours to be exact.

The record was previously held by Mariah Carey, who broke through with 10,819,009 streams on Spotify thanks to her classic holiday anthem. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” attracted a big crowd on December 24 of last year, which amounted to total 10,819,009 plays.

So far, no other artist comes close to touching the play power of Ariana’s “7 Rings” — at least within this time span. Her previous single, “thank u, next” is also among the greatest 24-hour record holders on Spotify. Drake, Ed Sheeran, and XXXTentacion are up there as well.
