Keep in mind that Ubuntu's power management does harm to laptop HD, do remember to use hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda to stop Load_Cycle_Count growing.
Check using
smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Load_Cycle_Count
Assume you have a SATA HD.
