Here we see an adult Vixen Red fox (Vulpes vulpes), the largest of the true foxes (a genus of the sub-family Caninae which form a proper clade or monophyletic or natural group). She is with one of her cubs, teaching it to wait in line for food. Red foxes are the largest of the worldwide foxes, and also the most commonly widespread across the Northern hemisphere, Europe and North Africa.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Six metres, at 14:23pm on Monday 20th January 2020, on a beautifully sunny afternoon off Birdcage Walk and Horse Guards Road in the grounds of St James's Park. Situated in the City Of Westminster, the Park spans twenty three Hectares and is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London, with a variety of visiting and nesting birds that include Ducks, Canada Geese and Pelicans.

Pelicans have existed at St James's Park for over four hundred years, originally a gift from the Russian Ambassador to King Charles II in 1664, (and subsequently referred to as 'Ambassadors Pelicans), nowadays six individuals including Louis, Vaclav and Gargi who are all Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus Onocrotalus), also known as Eastern Pelicans, White Pelicans or Rosy Pelicans, reside on Pelican Rock at one end of the lake. They eat fish from the lake and are also hand fed, and are a much loved attraction. They have the largest wingspan after the Great Albatross of up to three metres, have a body length up to six feet and males can weigh up to 15kgs.

Loch Earn (also known as Loch of Ireland), is a freshwater loch situated in the Central Highlands of Scotland in the districts of Perth and Kinross, and Stirling, approximately ten and a half kilometres in length and 1.2km wide, with a depth of around 87 metres.

In the distance we see Mt Baker in Washington State, USA . Known to the Lummi First nation people (Lhaq'temish) as Kwelshán ('Shooting place' in Nooksack), to the Halkomelem as Kwelxá:lxw, to Lushootseed speakers along the Skagit River as Teqwúbe7 “snow-capped peak'', to the Nooksack language as Kweq’ Smánit (“white mountain'') and also known as Koma Kulshan, (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’),she is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington State in the United States, standing 3,286 metres tall and was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792.

Windy day (gusts of 24km/hr) and seeing was not ideal - I knew the weather forecast was for increasing cloud so I was happy to get this.

On days of excellent seeing, the background granulations would be clearly defined - definitely a bit blurry here but some nice detail in the sunspots.

Of note, the lead sunspot of a pair tends to have a darker umbra reflecting a lower temperature and a stronger magnetic field strength. That seems to be the case here.

This is the best 10% of a 3000 frame video.

Shutter speed was 12.71 ms - maximum possible FPS = 79 so my short USB3 cable, quite old 4GB RAM MacBook Air and Samsung T3 SSD coped admirably!

I had problems with my TeleVue x 3 Barlow - its lengthy design means that it touches the top filters in my Herschel wedge so a more compact Barlow might work better.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, a Nikon D850 FX Pro body as my trusted companion, I travel light with less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. This photograph was taken at an altitude of Two metres, in the golden hour around sunrise at 06:40am on Friday 5th September 2019 seated on a fold up camping chair around sunrise off First Street and Eastview Drive, between the boat jetty and Bevan Avenue Fishing Pier in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

In the distance we see Mt Baker in Washington State, USA . Known to the Lummi First nation people (Lhaq'temish) as Kwelshán ('Shooting place' in Nooksack), to the Halkomelem as Kwelxá:lxw, to Lushootseed speakers along the Skagit River as Teqwúbe7 meaning “snow-capped peak'', to the Nooksack language as Kweq’ Smánit (“white mountain'') and also known as Koma Kulshan, (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’), the name for the Middle Fork which originates from the glaciers such as Deming and Thunder on the western slopes, she is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington State in the United States, standing 3,286 metres tall and was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792.

The Bevan Avenue fishing pier is one of the main focal points in Sidney, and Work commenced on the pier in 1993 with Phase one, a 90 metre straight section being completed in 1996. A year later the 110 metre Phase two section was completed.

Baker Highway, State Route 542, just past the Firs Lodge along the left side of the road, we came upon a deserted Picture Lake in the Heather Meadows area, Washington State, USA. From here you can get spectacular views of Majestic Mt. Baker and Mt Shuksan over in Whatcom County as well as the Snoqualmie National Forest.

The Bevan Avenue fishing pier is one of the main focal points in this small but beautiful town where some of my family are so lucky to reside. I am never happier than when walking around and capturing the beauty and charm of this most special of locations. Work commenced on the pier in 1993 with Phase one, a 90 metre straight section being completed in 1996. A year later the 110 metre Phase two section was completed.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres 12.58pm on April 16th 2010 off Crowsnest Highway 3 and Township Road 74 and in Cowley, a village in the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9, Alberta.

Cowley was settled in the 1880's, and originally known as 'French flats' as it's first inhabitants were from Nouveau-Brunswick and Quebecois. Later on original settler Fred’k W. Godsal gave it it's name 'Cowley', a combination of 'cow' and 'lea'. It was incorporated as a village in 1906. It is known for suffering frequent high winds of up to 133mph.

Here we see an adult Jay(Garrulus glandarius), the most colourful of the crow family, though very shy and seldon seen for long when humans are around. They mainly eat nuts and acorns, as well as nestlings and small mammals.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Three hundred and fifty metres, at 12:50pm on Sunday 11th September 2019 off Lorne Street beneath Kamloops viewpoint walkway on the North bank of the Thompson River in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

Here we see a rather handsome little Ring-billed gull (Larus Delawarenensis), in non breeding plumage with a streaked head. A medium sized gull around the size of a crow, these can grow to around twenty two inches in length with a wingspan of up to forty seven inches, and weigh up to 700g.

This Five seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of Forty three metres, during the magic of the Golden Hour around sunrise (Sunrise was at 06:21am), at 05:56am, on Thursday 10th September 2015 off Lullingstone Lane beside the Lullingstone Roman Villa in the village of Eynsford, Kent, England.

Here we see Eynsford Viaduct, an impressive nine-arched red-brick viaduct that is a prominent feature on the line to the 'Bat & Ball' station. The structure was built by the independent ''Sevenoaks Railway'', incorporated in 1859 to link the ''Chatham'' main line with the market town of Sevenoaks. And first services began on 2nd June 1862. The viaduct has nine arches of 30-foot span, and rises to a height of 75-feet above the valley and the River Darent.

A thick bank of fog rapidly swept in from the Southern Gulf Islands over the sea and engulfed Island View Beach, located on the Eastern shore of the Saanich Peninsula, near to Victoria and beautiful Sidney by the sea, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Here we stand in Island View Beach Regional Park where Tsawout First Nations people have a community and a government. They are a member of the Sencot'en Alliance and were signatories to the Douglas Treaties in the 1850's, we look over towards Sidney Island.

This three seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of One metre, at 05:36am on Sunday 5th September 2019 around sunrise off 1st Street and Bevan Avenue, close to Glass beach in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

In the distance we see Mt Baker in Washington State, USA, an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades. Standing 3,286 metres tall, she was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

The four Salishan language speaking First Nation bands nearest to Mount Baker know her by different names. Known to the Halkomelem as Kwelxá:lxw, Kwelshán (wounded by a shot) to the Lummi,Teqwúbe7 (snow-capped peak) to Lushootseed speakers along the Skagit River, and to the Nooksack language, the ice- and snow-covered top is Kweq’ Smánit (white mountain) while the high meadows around the peak are Kwelshán (shooting place)”. There are also unsubstanciated references to Mt Baker as Komo Kulshan (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’), the name for the Middle Fork which originates from the glaciers such as Deming and Thunder on the western slopes, though Koma or Komo Kulshan is not a native name for the mountain in any of the twenty three collective Salishan languages.

The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792.

The Bevan Avenue fishing pier is one of the main focal points in Sidney, and Work commenced on the pier in 1993 with Phase one, a 90 metre straight section being completed in 1996. A year later the 110 metre Phase two section was completed.

Currently in February 2023, tenders are being invited for major renovations to the pier to include Localized replacement of coating system on pier structures, Installation of a pile wrapping system, Localized steel repairs, and Installation of supplemental sacrificial anodes.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty three metres on Tuesday 2nd February 2021 at 15:53pm during a brief respite from the constant wind and rain that sums up winter so far this year, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent, England.

With the light rapidly fading I was sitting in the garden trying to capture wild birds when a local newbie to the neighbourhood perched on the fence and observed my actions. Having recently lost both of our 15 year old Felines, Tom & Jerry during the Covid-19 lockdowns, our garden is now a battleground for several new kids on the block and the ageing alpha male next door. Nice to have some feline company as I miss our boys so much.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty nine metres at 09:47am on an overcast summer morning on Tuesday 3rd August 2021, of a Large red slug (Arion rufus) off Hythe Avenue and Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent.

Also known as the Red slug, Chocolate arion and European red slug, these are land slugs or roundback slugs in the family Arionidae. The opening on the right side is a pneumostome or respiratory pore whih feeds air to the lung. They have a striped foot fringe and pale sole, and can reach 150mm fully extended.They have 27,000 teeth!

This Fifteen seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of Ten metres, at 05:53am on Tuesday 7th September 2019 in the magic of the Golden hour around sunset in the village of Harrison Hot springs, in British Columbia, Canada.

Harrison is a small community at the Southern end of Harrison Lake where Harrison River flows inwards in the Fraser valley of British Columbia in Canada. Known for it's hot springs, it has a population of around fifteen hundred people and was named after Benjamin Harrison, who formerly worked as Deputy governor for the Hudson's Bay Company.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seven metres at 13:17pm on Thursday May 12th 2022 off the Mall and Horse Guards Road within the grounds of St James's Park in Central London, one of the Royal parks of London situated in South West London.

Pelicans have existed at St James's Park for over four hundred years, originally a gift from the Russian Ambassador to King Charles II in 1664, (and subsequently referred to as 'Ambassadors Pelicans), nowadays six original individuals including Louis, Vaclav and Gargi who are all Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus Onocrotalus), also known as Eastern Pelicans, White Pelicans or Rosy Pelicans, reside on Pelican Rock at one end of the lake.

Several chicks have grown, boosting the total number now in 2022. They eat fish from the lake and are also hand fed, and are a much loved attraction. They have the largest wingspan after the Great Albatross of up to three metres, have a body length up to six feet and males can weigh up to 15kgs.

THE END OF A 'DIFFICULT' YEAR....HOPE FOR THE FUTURE?

As 2022 draws to a close, it's hard not to feel that this 'difficult' year could not be followed by one of equal sadness.

The loss of our beloved Queen and figurehead a personal loss to so many of us, a year of revolving door Prime ministers and farcical government ineptitude which leaves many British folk disillusio9ned and facing the Dickensian choice of 'Heating OR eating'. World powers fuelled by corruption and hatred attempting to annexe what does not belong to them, a wider gap between the rich and poor than we have ever seen, and back home a society which salutes shallow, selfish reality celebrities whilst it's front line service employees who are the real heroes, can't even earn a decent living wage!

The world of photography as I know it, the beauty of Mother Nature and the animal kingdoms are changing at the hands of mankind. Species are taken to extinction through our own selfish actions, and the consequences are yet to filter down to us - but they will, as we fail to take heed of warnings and continue to expand across Mother Earth like the plague we are.

Year on year, each of us will have been touched by the hand of fate as we look back over the past twelve months. Love and laughter, death and sorrow, loss of loved ones, new life and expectations reached or never quite attained. We raise a glass to the New Year, and in our family we open the front door to let in the new, and open the back door to expel the old..... there is love and hope, optimism and belief as always, and for me that is the very essence of life itself, for without these our existence might appear a most bleak prospect indeed.

I wish everyone a very Happy New Year, peace, harmony, love and laughter and a strength to weather the storm of life which often threatens to envelope us. I wish success and personal achievements to every photographer, there is so much to witness, so much to experience, so much to document and capture. Thank you so much to everyone who has visited my site, witnessed my imagery, left a comment or personal message, I am very grateful for your time in this hectic cycle we know as life.

This One seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of Six metres, at 06:57am on Monday 23rd September 2019 around sunrise off 1st Street and Bevan Avenue, between the boat jetty and Bevan Avenue Fishing Pier in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The beautiful red sky bursting through the clouds was created by the sunlight falling dust particles in the atmosphere, and lasted only a a few minutes before vanishing.

"The Scallop", by Maggi Hambling is a sculpture dedicated to Benjamin Britten on the beach at Aldeburgh. The edge of the shell is pierced with the words "I hear those voices that will not be drowned", from 'Peter Grimes', Brittens opera which premiered in 1945 and launched him to international acclaim.

Born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, Britten lived for thirty years in Aldeburgh, where this fantastic, tactile sculpture now resides on the stone beach.

Reynisfjara boasts several enormous basalt stacks and powerful, roaring waves off the Atlantic Ocean, and was voted as one of the top ten non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet by National Geographic. The Reynisdranger basalt stacks are named Langsamur, Landdrangur and Skessudranger or Háidrangur.

These are large diving ducks with a name derived from the Greek 'Netta' or duck and Latin 'Rufina' or Golden red or ruddy. These two males were foraging and diving for bits of algae. The females are a pale brown and a stark contrast to the males.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 12:59pm on Thursday 11th November 2021 off the Western Esplanade and West Cliff Road on the shoreline of Louisa Bay in Broadstairs, Kent. The seven bays in Broadstairs consist of: (From south to north) Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay, Viking Bay, Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay.

Here we see an adult Ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres) in non breeding plumage. A small wading bird and one of two species of Turnstone in the genus Arenaria which comes from Latin and means 'inhabiting sand'. It is classified as in the Sandpiper family Scolopacidae and is a migratory bird which breeds in Northern Eurasia and North America.

We left around 9am for the hour or so 70 mile drive down the A2 to Viking bay, first stop a full English breakfast at the pub there overlooking the beach. Then time for a stroll along the beach on a cloudy day surrounded by Mother Nature, a tonic for the soul.

The park is a Fifty nine Hectare provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. Located on Vancouver Island, between Sooke and River Jordan, the park has spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. (ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably).

With visits now in excess of 16.575 Million to my FLICKR site, used primarily these days as a fun platform to reach friends and family as I have now sold my professional gear and now take a more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to FLICKR, GETTY IMAGES and everyone who drops by.
