I undertook a post graduate in Unix at St. Patrick’s College about fifteen years ago and it was an interesting experience. A few days after completing the course the company that I worked for was purchased by Banta and I was made redundant as the new owners did not require Unix expertise. The post-graduate which was very expensive was sponsored and paid for by the EU and at the time I had believed that I was attending Maynooth University rather than St. Patrick’s because I did not know that they were not the same.

St Patrick's College is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a Pontifical University, located in the village of Maynooth, 24 km from Dublin, Ireland. In 2015-16 there were approximately 80 men studying for the priesthood at Maynooth, 60 resident seminarians and approximately 20 non residents. The college and seminary are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by an Act of Grattan's Parliament in 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Secretary of State, introduced his Bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by Parliament.

Degrees are awarded by the Pontifical University at Maynooth, which was established by a Pontifical Charter of 1896. The Pontifical Charter entitles the university to grant degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology. The college is associated with the separate Maynooth University.

The HP Integral PC (or HP 9807A) was a portable UNIX workstation computer system produced by Hewlett-Packard, launched in 1985. It was based on the Motorola 68000 microprocessor (running at 8 MHz) and ran early version of the HP-UX operating system.

Retrocomputing (a portmanteau of retro and computing) is the use of early computer hardware and software today. Retrocomputing is usually classed as a hobby and recreation rather than a practical application of technology; enthusiasts often collect rare and valuable hardware and software for sentimental reasons. However some do make use of it.[1] Retrocomputing often gets its start when a computer user realizes that expensive fantasy systems like IBM Mainframes, DEC Superminis, SGI workstations and Cray Supercomputers have become affordable on the used computer market, usually in a relatively short time after the computers' era of use.

thought it was a cute picture of my powerbook (fruit) as i do a solaris install at the datacenter. boy do i love unix. and my mac. but hey, what's the difference.

Many years ago I undertook a post-graduation course in UNIX at this college [the course was financed by the EU].

St Patrick's College, Maynooth, is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a Pontifical University, located in the village of Maynooth, 24 km (15 mi) from Dublin, Ireland.

The college and seminary are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by Maynooth College Act 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Chief Secretary for Ireland, introduced his Bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by Parliament. It was opened to train 500 Catholic priests every year, and was once the largest seminary in the world.

In the past decades intakes has been decreasing in line with the wider fall in vocations across the Western developed world, with a record low in 2017 of six first year seminarians. This fall was due, in part, to the decision of the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, to transfer Dublin seminarians to the Irish College in Rome. He did not state his reasons, but there had been unease over accusations of inappropriate behaviour among seminarians in Maynooth. However the 2017 drop may also be explained in part by the Irish Bishops' collective decision, in line with a new Holy See directive, to channel successful applicants for priestly formation into a new so-called propadeutic year before entering seminary. Eight students from the 2017 national intake were thus sent for a year of propadeutic studies in Spain.

Degrees are awarded by the Pontifical University at Maynooth, which was established by a pontifical charter of 1896. The Pontifical charter entitles the university to grant degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology.

The college is associated with the separate Maynooth University.

The UNIX time is 1234567890 - the amount of seconds since midnight GMT, Jan. 1, 1970. This occurred at 10:31:30, Feb. 14, 2009, shown here on a ThinkGeek Epoch Clock

The eCesys 486 66 system, setup to run NEXTSTEP for Intel v3.2 in early 1994. It had 16MB of RAM and a 700MB SCSI Quantum ProDrive hooked to a DPT-2021 ISA SCSI board. The system was built around a fast JCIS motherboard with ISA, VLB, and the unique WinGine local bus graphics subsystem which provided one of the fastest framebuffers for the graphically intensive NEXTSTEP operating system.

I purchased NEXTSTEP Developer v3.2 for $299 at academic discount from my university. Retail for that package was $5999 - for the OS and dev system alone!

In 1996, I upgraded the motherboard and processor, first to an AMD 486 DX4 120 and, later, to an AMD 5x86 133 which I ran, overclocked, at 160MHz.

OpenBSD 4.2-RELEASE on my iBook. Ubuntu no longer supports ppc, and the available version is "BUGGY". Back to OpenBSD, especially now they have an up to date GNOME version.
