Swansea University and Swansea Council are now embarking on phase 1 of a bold plan to preserve and bring back to life the Hafod/Morfa copper works in the Lower Swansea Valley.
A community regeneration organisation called Groundwork Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot has been appointed to manage the regeneration of the world-famous Hafod Copperworks from early 2013.
Work during phase 1 will improve access to the site and provide opportunities for more visitors to learn about Swansea’s leading role in the industrial revolution and development of the global economy.

Edinburgh University’s Main Library opened in late summer 1967 and was designed by Sir Basil Spence’s architectural partnership Spence, Glover & Ferguson. Demolition work on the George Square site for the library began in November 1964. Many have never forgiven the university for redeveloping most of the original buildings in the square which dates from 1766. Basil Spence (1907-76) was appointed planning consultant for the university and was first asked to design a new library in 1955.
Described as ‘mannered modernism at its best’ in the Edinburgh volume of The Buildings of Scotland, the main library is ‘A’ listed. Originally it cost £2.1m (including £400,000 for furnishings and equipment). It accommodated two million books, with 2,500 reader places and 114 staff. Hanyang University, founded as Dong-A Engineering Institute in 1939 is in Seongdong-gu in Seoul. As well as first class academic facilities the university is also home to the Hanyang University Medical Center on the campus which is spread out over the hilly campus which offers some great views of the surrounding area. Popular with students there are lots of options for eating and drinking in the area between Hanyang University Station and Wangsimni Station.
