On Friday, May 11th, 2018 the #UASCS hosted it's 5th Annual International Night at both the #UASCS Middle and High School. It was a great chance for us to nourish and cherish one of our noble traits, being “glocal”. Indeed, our #UASAtoms brought together more than 20 different cultures in one place at one time. More than 200 visitors came to taste the specialties from dozens of global cuisines while being entertained by traditional (folk) and modern dances. The music, food and great people made this night to be great. Thumbs up to our #UASAtoms, Ms. Grabovica and all those who worked so hard to make this evening special. We will continue our mission to cherish diversity and multiculturalism in our school and look forward to seeing you next year. Go Atoms! #UASAtoms #UASCS

On Friday, September 28, 2018, #UASCS Middle School students went on the "Good Vibes Only" trip. The purpose of the Good Vibes Only Trip was to spark a discussion around what it means to be part of a community and provide scholars with the opportunity to get to know each other better and create more positive experiences outside of the classroom. In the morning, scholars participated in a workshop style lesson on the community. Scholars reflected on the following concepts; Ubuntu, the idea that we are all connected through our humanity, team spirit, self-discipline, sense of purpose, and, pride

In the afternoon, scholars walked to a local skate park and participated in team building activities. In addition to having space to simply have fun with their peers, students were brought closer to reaching their individual goals and ultimately strengthening our school community. These events are just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Saturday, November 15, 2014, the UASCS Robotics Team, UAS Atoms, participated to the First Lego League Qualifier at MVCC. The competitors were supposed to have three presentations to the juries in three categories including Robot Design, Project, and Core Values in the morning session. Our team first visited the Robot Design juries to have their presentation about our robot’s abilities and our programming skills. Secondly, we had a project presentation about the “Classroom of the Future” to the project juries. Finally, in the Core Values category, our robotics team had a team activity test and also expressed their feelings and gaining about studying in robotics.

In the afternoon session, the teams were required to perform a set of missions in a fixed amount of time using their robots in three different rounds. In the first round, our robot worked quite well and was able to handle six missions. The UAS Atoms were in first place among 18 teams at the end of the first round. Unfortunately, since we were under stress to keep our first place, we had some panic during the second and third rounds. Therefore we could not do well in those rounds and lost our first place position. At the end of the robot game rounds, the UAS Atoms were in the fifth place in the scoreboard.

As a result, our team was recognized as one of the qualifiers to the next championship event which is going to be held in SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, December 6, 2014.

On Thursday, September 20, 2018 #UASCS Middle School hosted a Curriculum Night. This event provided the opportunity for parents and guardians to meet with classroom teachers and to learn about their #UASAtoms curriculum. The turnout was high, and this time the student desks were filled up with parents. We are building success one ATOM at a time.

Forty-Seven of our UASCS Atoms took a three day trip to our nation's capitol, Washington D.C. The students experienced a lot! Highlights of the trip included walking the grounds of Mount Vernon and touring George Washington's home, a photo stop at the White House and a book signing with a survivor from the Holocaust at the US Holocaust Museum. Scholars walked the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, where they observed the changing of the guards, and heard the honored burial of fallen heroes with a twenty-one gun solute. They completed a scavenger hunt in the Smithsonian Museums of Natural and American Histories. Scholars listened to an audio tour of the US Capitol Building, and marveled at the architecture of the Supreme Court House and Library of Congress Building. At night, they took a guided illuminated tour of the President Lincoln Monument, Korean Conflict Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. The trip ended with the opportunity to see the Giant Pandas at the National Zoo.

On Friday, October 19, 2018, #UASAtoms traveled back in time to the Civil War era at The Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, NY. According to the museum's mission, "The Farmers’ Museum is devoted to preserving America’s rural heritage through interactive exhibits, living history programs, and educational workshops that depict farming and rural life."

Our scholars participated in the 19th century life workshop and had a chance to roll up their sleeves and get their hands with history, art, math, and science in a fun way by training as a Blacksmith's Apprentice. This experience directly reflects the historical unit our #UASAtoms are learning about in their classes at the moment. These hands-on lessons are just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Friday, February 27th, 2015, Utica Academy of Science held its second annual science fair, during which more than forty scholars converted their motivations and curiosities into research reports and posters in an effort to show their achievements in science education. Each of the students participated enthusiastically, demonstrating their achievements to family and friends alike.

The projects began as questions posed to their science teachers and were further developed into the framework upon which the scholars were able to conduct their own experiments outside of the school. As the science fair neared, the excitement of the participating scholars could be felt throughout the school as they prepared their presentation boards and fine-tuned their papers for the judges.

STEM faculty hailing from local institutions including MVCC, SUNYIT, and Utica College served as judges for the fair. Scholars happily demonstrated their knowledge in a variety of topics and ideas, including: virtual machines versus computers, vinegar powered battery, Investigating Osmosis, Reaction time while texting, Carbon Dioxide in Soda, Can a needle float? and many more. After presenting to the various judges, scholars were greeted with the smiling faces of their family and friends and emerged with a greater sense of inner pride in their accomplishments and inspiration for next year's fair. The local college faculty was very impressed with the depth of knowledge the scholars exhibited and all asked to be invited back again next year to see what our scholars have discovered in the interim. The faculty and staff of UASCS are also very proud of our scholars and are excited to see what next year's science fair will bring!

The American physicist Irving Langmuir once stated, "The scientist is motivated primarily by curiosity and a desire for truth."
