The 6th graders at UASCS are proud to have participated in the 2015 Canal Clean Sweep along the Erie Canal on Thursday, April 30th! The purpose of this field trip was to teach scholars about the importance of caring for our environment, as well as giving back to the community. Scholars, teachers, and parents spent the morning cleaning up trash and debris along a 4-mile portion of the Erie Canal trail. Together, we filled 9 industrial sized garbage bags with garbage and debris found along the trail.
Scholar’s Experiences:
Gabriela, The Erie Canal Clean Up was a fun way to take care of our environment. It was a good thing that we were cleaning up all the garbage to make sure it stays neat. We got to see the canal and boats while we were walking the 4 miles. There were a couple snakes that we saw that didn’t harm us. It was a nice thing that we also enjoyed the outdoors. Even though we had to walk 4 miles it was all worth it. It was a great idea to help the environment and economy. The view of the canal was beautiful when clean. We can all make a difference if we help and all chip in!
Ossareine, I had a good time being outside with my friends and cleaning up The Erie Canal. I felt good helping the environment, it felt refreshing to be outside and walking. I thought it was a good idea to help the canal by cleaning the canal. The Erie Canal is also a good place to ride a bike or walk, by keeping the canal clean you can walk, bike, or walk your dog. The view of the lake and the forest was cool.
McKenna, The Erie Canal clean up was so much fun. I’m happy we got to help clean up the environment. It was a good 4-mile walk, but it was worth it to make sure we could make a difference.
Aiden, The Erie Canal Clean Up was a very fun thing to do. It was a great way to help the environment and I enjoyed it. While the walk was pretty long, it was also felt good to be in nature and help clean up. The fresh air was great and we saw boats and other cool things. The bridge that lifted up and down was also really cool. We even saw snakes and spiders (that didn’t harm anyone) which were awesome. We made a difference and I would love to go back again.
#UAS Middle School Students Motivate One Another During Testing. "You're a bursting star with knowledge!" This and many other inspiring messages were etched into the sidewalks to the #UAS Middle School on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Students wrote these notes to our scholars for the New York State ELA test. This activity not only created freestyle avant-garde works of art but also helped students to relieve pressure in a colorful way.

The 6th graders at UASCS are proud to have participated in the 2015 Canal Clean Sweep along the Erie Canal on Thursday, April 30th! The purpose of this field trip was to teach scholars about the importance of caring for our environment, as well as giving back to the community. On Saturday, October 20, 2018, #UASCS scholars participated in the Oneida County Intergenerational Fall Clean-up Weekend. The purpose of program is to provide a venue where younger persons in the community can assist their older neighbors with general yard clean-up. Supporting our #UASAtoms to pursue these acts of service is one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
