Hi all,
Presenting the "Adobe Tutorials Blog" Logo.
Soon, I'll be launching a brand new tutorial blog featuring some of the adobe's software such as Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver.
Measure the widest points on the sides, mine measures 15" wide and 7.5" deep at the widest points. So my footprint is 15" x 7.5". You can slide a thin ruler under the bottom to assist you, but remember that some bits stick out further in the middle of the machine as opposed to the base, so look from the top as you're measuring.
After a side of basket is sewn, it should look like this. Press seam allowance toward short strip.
9.Turn over. Fold the tape two times to cover the raw edge of the top.
7.Insert lining into exterior wrong sides together. Align the tops and bottom corners together and pin the top.
This is showing how to assemble a side of basket. Fold light blue strip diagonally along light green strip, putting two sides together. Sew from bottom to the end of light blue fabric.
NOTE: Do not sew seam allowance.
3.Next, make sides of basket. Sew sides of strips next each other, right sides together. One by One, following numbers in the picture.
7.Make gussets on the corners of the bottom. Fold seam allowance of the side to one direction. The bottom of the basket should be 7cmx7cm square.
Before you sew, make a notch at the corner of bottom. Cut ONLY ONE LAYER. Be careful NOT TO CUT the stitches you already made!
Sew all four sides. The picture is showing the view from the bottom of basket (wrong side).
5.This is the measurement for lining. Mark these lines with pencil on wrong side of lining fabric.
Blended, cured and ready for a coat of primer! All that white part is epoxy clay. You can tint epoxy clay by mixing it with acrylic paint or plastic dye. I didn't bother since im painting this up anyway and i wanted the white to be obvious for this tutorial.
Use primer to ready the plastic mask for painting. Otherwise you risk the acrylic paint sliding off the raw plastic surface once you apply it.
Paint it up with craft acrylic! Once thats all done blast it with a few layers ( let dry between coats) of clear coat. Let that dry overnight if you can.. in front of a fan is ideal! Remember to vent the workspace , use a fan to move bad air out ( or do this outside) and wear a mask! This stuff is bad for you!
Add your elastic bands by scoring the parts where the elastic will be anchored ( scoring= scratching and making the surface rough to give it "tooth" for the glue to hang on to) Plop down some hot glue and use something smooth to press the elastic band down into the glue until it cools. Use more hot glue over the band/plastic... dont be stingy! Repeat for both straps.
- Make sure the elastic bands go around above your ears before gluing them on!
Protip: Because of the center of gravity of the mask with ears attached it might be a good idea to make a third strap that leads from back of the center forehead of the mask, down to the horizontal straps that attach across the back of your head. ( Ill get pics, i promise)
Let that cool for a long time before trying on the mask... even if the glue feels cool, it can still be weakened if you mess with it too early. Be patient!
Add your eyes! Glue the clear lenses first ( make sure no hot glue shows!) then cut your black out screen to the right size to cover the whole back of the eye. Glue the edges of the fabric down and...
You are done!!
Squealer Paper Toy Tutorial
Items you will need:
-Printout (I print out paper toys on 110lb. White card stock.)
-Glue
-Craft Knife
-Embossing Stylus Balled (optional I usually carefully score with a craft knife.)
-Small Stick (the end of a small paint brush, chopstick, or shish kabob stick)
-Scissors
-Cutting Board (optional, just don't cut up your table)
-Paper Towel (to wipe off excess glue)
-Bandages (optional, be careful when you are cutting. It's not fun to look for bandages when you are bleeding)
Notes to keep in mind:
Make sure you are having fun. That is what paper craft is all about?
Take your time.
Have extra craft knife blades handy. It is always best to cut with a sharp blade.
Cut rounded parts with scissors and straight parts with craft knife.
When scoring be careful not to score to deep and cut all the way through the model.
This Tutorial is how to make the Krampus version of the Squealer Paper Toy. This one is slightly more difficult than the Blank version that way I can show you all the techniques so you can make other versions. They are all similar so don't worry. I made the template as intuitive as I could so you should have no problems with the assembly.
Briefly read before starting
Print out Squealer Paper Toy
Ready your tools.
Roughly cut out all pieces to separate then carefully cut each individual piece.
Once all of the exterior (outside) lines of the pieces are cut out (as shown)
Score and cut the interior pieces.
Be careful not to score to deep and cut all the way through the model.
The teeth of the Krampus (or moustache of Santa) are cut and also scored.
Also note that the mouth and one of the body tabs are connected. Cut (as shown)
The tab should have a small piece missing.
Cut, score, and lift horns up.
For arms and tongue curl with craft knife.
Using the left over excess pieces add a little glue to a piece of paper and use another piece to spread the glue.
Use stick for gluing hard to reach areas. I normally hold pieces together for 15-20 seconds.
On the main part of the model glue the body together first.
Now all small parts and body should be glued.
Fold and glue "mouth inside bottom" to tab (as shown) Mouth should now protrude out from the body slightly.
Turn model upside down and glue body tabs to "mouth inside bottom" piece.
Time to form the head!
Glue all the sides of the head to form a box. Glue head top tabs to "mouth inside top".
When gluing the 5 panels that make the top of the head, it is best to add glue to all the tabs and carefully fit them all together.
Use stick to get to the hard to reach places and let the glue set.
Glue tail on before you glue basket.
Put props in the hands and position arms whatever way you see best.
Add child, and make sure all the little details are positioned and glued correctly.
There you have it the Krampus! I hope you have been a good little child.
Now, the tricky part. Most tutorials say you need to end up with two of the rings on one end between the two rings on the other end and add a new ring between the middle rings. Yes, I know that makes no sense, so I will actually show you how to do it! There is a piece of thin wire in your kit, straighten it out and make a U shaped bend in one end. Take the end of your wire and hook it through the top ring on the right side of your chain, between the two middle rings.
