Freshly Picked has a great tutorial on making a coin purse.
However, I didn't have oilcloth on hand, so I made mine with quilting cotton, batting and a lining. These are my modifications to her tutorial. Please still refer to her instructions for basic construction technique as my pictures only show how I deviated from her tutorial.

7. Line up the seams and pin in place. Now we will make our first gather/fold. I do mine by making this S-curve fold with the inside (pant leg) fabric. If all goes well, you will do four of these S-folds (one on each side of each seam) and not need to do any more gathering to get your fabric to fit. If not, you can always do one or two more folds. I actually ended up doing five for this pair of knickers.
Once you have it folded, take out the pin you already put in and use it to hold the fold in place.

From a shoot in the field at Waterton Lakes National Park in June 2015 I explain:
• what equipment, exposures and camera settings to use when shooting moonlit nightscapes
• and provide tips on balancing the “Exposure Triangle"
• and on achieving good depth of field.
Back at the computer, using images I took that weekend at Waterton Lakes, I step you through processing an image from “raw to rave,” first demonstrating step-by-step how to develop raw files in Adobe Camera Raw (steps also applicable to Lightroom if you prefer).
I then demonstrate how to go beyond Lightroom or Camera Raw to use Adobe Photoshop to further enhance a still image. I illustrate non-destructive editing techniques, including:
• the use of smart filters,
• adjustments layers,
• and masks for the sky and ground.

8. Repeat step 7 on the other side of the seam, then again on the other side of the band (lining up the pin you put in earlier with the outside leg seam).
This is what the S-folds should look like with one on each side of the seam.

9. Now you are ready fold and press the seam allowance. Start with any points and corners. Fold the edge up straight against the point. Press with a dry iron. Now fold the sides up over the point, forming a miter. Press.
Other than a bit of contast and colour saturation this image is straight out of the camera. No processing magic was used.
The wood models are of identical size.
The effect was achieved by placing the left hand model a few inches behind the right hand one and shooting from a low angle (about model hip height).
This 'trick' is used extensively in the "Lord of the Rings" films.
Don't let anyone tell you the camera doesn't lie :)
