“For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn’t

return there, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud,

and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall my word be

that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it

shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing

whereto I sent it.” ― Isaiah 55:11

Two weeks ago, I had fun taking some pictures in the making of Blank Space's dance cover video "True Valentine", which is directed by my brother. I picked just a few takes to share with you.

Blank Space is a Weki Meki (K-pop girl group) dance cover group. They will release the video on Valentine's Day.

Our first weekend saw gentle breezes as we sailed out to Motohuie, then back round Brown's Island in the Tamaki Strait

I recently uncovered the old wheel truing stand I used to lace up motorcycle wheels in a bike shop I once owned. It was a Nagoya model, made by the Tanaka Tool Co. It has been abandoned for more than 20 years and shows it!

Panorama of Cassini images showing the northern half of Saturn, along with her shadow on her rings. Colorized RGB image created from the RED, GRN, and BL1 bands (even though it doesn't look very "true" colorish).

(The colors on the edges of the image are artifacts of when I colorized the image. Ordinarily I would have cropped them out but in this case cropping would have removed too much of the image so here they are...)

True confession: It being Valentine's Day and all, when I spied these triangular boxes on the dining room table earlier this morning my heart leapt. It leapt because for one moment of excitement I thought they were GIANT TOBLERONES!

My heart fell in the moment I realized they were not chocolate, but mail addressed to me. However, as it turns out, I think these are some new Goofin' with the Muses posters. Yeehaw. Better than chocolate. If they are I'll be listing them on Etsy later today and notifying those on the waiting list. Happy Valentine's Day and thank you to Canada Post for delivering these early on a day that most things are slowed down due to the weather.

True Triple Crown

It’s was the only ride that I ever thought of whenever I looked across at the North Shore here in Vancouver. With a combined climbing of about 3400 metres up three mountains over 140km, it was the one ride that always wanted to cross off the list. Starting in Vancouver one climbs the three mountains of Seymour, Grouse and Cypress on the North Shore, each time returning to the base before attempting the next. Each climb on is decent on its own, averaging 8% and are popular with the local cycling community, but linking them together is where the magic is. Especially given that Grouse is a gravel road. Yes, an 8% gravel service road up to a ski hill.

After three years of wanting to attempt it, the day finally came on July 21st. At 6am on a blue sky saturday morning Alex, Matt, Peter and myself departed. Rolling east to west we tackled Seymour, Grouse and Cypress over the course of 7.5 hours of riding. Three flats were encountered, a low number given that 30km was on gravel with 23c tires, an average of 2 coffees were downed and countless Clif Shot Bloks were consumed but in the end we accomplished it. A truly epic ride.
