Trial Kennedy supporting Horsell Common at Fowlers Live with friend Leigh from Horsell Common helping out for a tune
The Christchurch classic trials group continues to grow and welcomed new riders to our September event at Waipara River, north of Christchurch. We headed out of town on a gray morning with light showers but things improved as we headed north. Luckily the weather improved so by the time we finished we were in warm sunshine. 43 riders signed on to ride a mixture of machines through 4 rounds of 9 sections. Entries included one sidechair which is always entertaining to watch.Air cooled bike being ridden included 11 Honda, 9 Yamaha, 8 Fantic, 4 Villiers including the rigid frame Excelsior, and one each Aprilia, Bultaco, Kawasaki, Montesa, and Suzuki. Enjoy the photos.

The new Trial Hill Bridge, built in a similar style to the original bridge. Shame about the bollards!

The annual Cust Classic Trial was held last weekend in North Canterbury close to Christchurch and Rangiora. Great sections and great weather, plus the prospect of winning some trophies, saw 43 riders entered on machines from Pre 65, the twin shock era, and air cooled monoshock bikes. Thanks to the many people involved including section setters, BBQ cook, organisers of the trophies and tee shirts, and collating the scores on the day. Great rides by the top riders in each grade that got through the days 32 sections for only a few points. Thanks everyone for a great day out.

Another great day of Classic Trials in Canterbury, New Zealand, rewarded the organisers with a good turn out to try their hand at the 4 laps of 8 sections. No frost which was great considering we are mid winter. I found the sections tricky, with some getting quite slippery once riders had completed a couple of rounds. Despite this the results showed some close scores and a couple of ties. Thanks to Brent and Shirley for the sections, Peter for the BBQ, Trevor who keeps us all informed, and Lynette for these photos.
The first classic trial for Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand, was held just north of Christchurch at Kainga.
Straight forward sections with the tighness of section 4 being the points taker. Thanks to Trevor, Simon, and Kahu for putting the sections in, it must have been hard work in 31 degrees temperature the day before. Thanks also to Peter for the BBQ. Next local Classic Trial is on 18th February.
You can tell from their bodies that these are some serious athletes running an important race. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) hosted the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Women's Marathon last spring. These ladies are the best women runners in the USA, all competing for the top spots to represent the country at the Olympic Games next month in China.

The first post lockdown trial in Canterbury attracted 48 riders to Cust in the South Island of New Zealand. The event is normally held in April but due to the lockdown was delayed until June. This meant a frosty start and the ground was damp, but a set of excellent sections were enjoyed by all.

The first Classic Trial in Canterbury for the 2022 year was a non points scoring event so many chose to get some practice on their modern bikes and try some of the harder lines. An overcast start turned to showers as we held the riders briefing then cleared for the first round, rained for the second, then stayed fine but still overcast until we finished. The excellent sections included some tight turns with short approaches onto trees and banks for the upper grades. Good to see Bodie out on the newly purchased Oset, and Kendall and Hamish providing some entertainment taking the sidechair through the sections.
