Trial Bay Gaol is a semi-ruined prison near South West Rocks on the NSW mid-north coast. It is odd to find a gaol in such a beautiful location. In August 2019 there is a sculpture festival in the grounds.

It was my pleasure to photograph our local Dog Agility trials again this year. It's wonderful to see the athleticism and strong bond these dog's have with their owners. From small to large, competitive to not-so-competitive, each dog was fun to watch and record in images. Whether it was running through rings, over jumps, through tunnels, or over catwalks you could tell each dog was enjoying their "work".
A few more thousand of these are loaded up on the Gallery site. This is the second year of using Smugmug and highly recommend its usage. Since I have loaded up the images the orders roll through without my involvement.
Notes: I (and my talented second shooter) shot nearly 8000 images in two eight hour days at this event. The lighting is extremely bad with two different types of light in this horse arena. It also had filtered skylights but this year it was heavy overcast and we got very little natural lighting. It made a big difference from last year. Everything was shot at ISO1600 with shutter priority trying to stay faster than 1/250 which is about the minimum acceptable for a fast moving dog. Even then each of the 1000's of images needed lots of work in PS as each was shot a few stops underexposed. 50% of the image were thrown out as unusable. I rented a second 70-200 f/2.8 lens for the event and would highly recommend that for special lens needs.

Last weekend the motorcycle section of the Vintage Car Club of NZ ran a reliability trial and invited the Canterbury Classic Trials group to put on a demonstration and also take part in their event. The trials area also attracted members from the Vintage Club on suitable machines who tried the obstacles. These were largely man-made and included pallets (Thanks Palletmakers in ChCh), fence posts, tyres, a bank, tree stump, and logs. Due to the range of machines lined up for the reliability trial these sections were easier and included tight turns, tree roots, and banks. As well as trials bikes other contenders included trail bikes, 1970’s Vespa and Honda scooters, 1960's Royal Enfield and BMW motorcycles , 1937 Ariel, 1927 AJS, 1924 Triumph, as well as a Velosolex. A laid back and fun day mixing two groups both interested in classic motorcycles. Enjoy the photos.
The Wells brothers of Catford CC at the end of a time trial. John (the steersman) has streaks of ice on his jacket and in his hair, while Len only has ice in his hair. Definitely some advantages being a sheltered stoker! The tandem is a Russ Rigide.
Queens Birthday Weekend saw Pioneer Motorcycle Club run the 76th edition of the Kaikoura 3 Day trial. The Club was rewarded with a large entry of 93 riders from across New Zealand including 5 Sidechairs, 9 Twin Shocks, 9 Women, and 8 Junior riders. Day 1 was at Birches Road south of Kaikoura featuring creek sections, grassy sections and mud. Considering it is June the weather was warm with no frost. A frost did greet us for Day 2 at Dairy Flat reached after travelling a short distance along the Inland Road. Easier sections on the second day combined with a longer loop saw many happy faces. Day 3 was again fine with no frost for the last day at Mt Fyffe. For the upper grades the creek sections were the most challenging day. It was great to have three fine and warm days for Kaikoura after having some rain on the last day last year. Prize giving was held at the Whaler in Kaikoura before everyone departed for home. Overall winner of Expert was Jason Baker with a well deserved win. Thanks to everyone who travelled to the event. The Club has had some great feedback, and looks forward to hosting you all again next year. Enjoy Lynette's photos.
The Christchurch classic trials group continues to grow and welcomed new riders to our September event at Waipara River, north of Christchurch. We headed out of town on a gray morning with light showers but things improved as we headed north. Luckily the weather improved so by the time we finished we were in warm sunshine. 43 riders signed on to ride a mixture of machines through 4 rounds of 9 sections. Entries included one sidechair which is always entertaining to watch.Air cooled bike being ridden included 11 Honda, 9 Yamaha, 8 Fantic, 4 Villiers including the rigid frame Excelsior, and one each Aprilia, Bultaco, Kawasaki, Montesa, and Suzuki. Enjoy the photos.

From Laggers Point look west you can watch the sun set over the water, this is one of only a few places on the East Coast of Australia where it is possible.
It is a very calm beach and popular with families and small children.
