Photo: Bark of a Grapevine
A tree's trunk is made up of several layers. The outer layer of the tree is called bark. When the trunk thickens, the outer layer of bark dies off, forming bark. Bark is not a living layer and is also called cork. It protects the tree from damage, dehydration, and external infections. The cell walls are impermeable, making the tree less susceptible to external influences.
Sometimes you see a sticky substance leaking from a tree's trunk. This is resin. The tree produces this substance when the bark is damaged to protect itself from insects.

A huge evergreen tree which sheds patches of its outer bark at different times showing the bright green inner bark which matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones. This gives rise to the distinctive peeling bark with multi coloured streaks. It is a Singapore heritage tree.

I have seen many outstanding autumn photos of this part of Luxulyan Valley. Photos that have shown the beautiful colours of autumn. So, after seeing some inspirational woodland photos and not trying too much to copy there outstanding work (AH) this is my twist of autumn at Luxulyan Valley.
In our back garden there is an Enormous Eucalyptus Tree, we actually planted it almost thirty years ago.... It's bark is amazing, because it naturally peels, coming off in curly layers..... As you will see very colourful.
"As the poet said, 'Only God can make a tree,' probably because it's so hard to figure out how to get the bark on." - Woody Allen (American filmmaker, actor, and comedian).
The theme for Smile on Saturday for the 1st of June is "tree bark". Luckily for me, who has had a busy few weeks since the theme was announced, I needed to look no further than a great survivor in my own back garden. I have a flowering bottlebrush tree which has been buffeted by winds, struck by lightening, and been smothered by jasmine and wisteria. Yet in spite of all of this, it has survived, and after being reduced to a trunk most severely due to necessity, after a period of being dormant as it recovers, it suddenly sent forth new shoots! This is some of the bark from its trunk, upon which some moss is growing. The colour and texture from the bark truly is beautiful, and I hope that my submission for this week's theme makes you smile!

Macro Mondays Theme: Tree bark
I love walking in woods but haven't done it for a little while, so when I saw this theme I was very happy. Took my jet lagged husband out twice over the weekend to different woods trying to keep him awake! He was very patient with me as I kept stopping to take photos.
I need more practice at low light handheld photography, I definitely improved on the second walk, but the first woods had better options. So I'm going with a photo that is perhaps slightly shallower DoF than I'd like, but I love the colours, especially the wonderul autumn leaves glow. Got to see loads of deer in the second woods so still worth the second walk. Happy Macro Monday everyone!
I always appreciate your comments and favourites.

1:52 Joy
I felt spoilt for choice when I thought about all the things which epitomise what 'joy' is to me.
Loved ones come top always, but I also get joy from nature's little creations, some of which form memories of our travels. Each memory bring back the joy of those times to me.
A red cross is a way to indicate that a tree is about to be cut down. Trees that are not for timber but are diseased may be marked in the same way. There are too many like this one in the parks I visit!
The theme for week 31 is Natural Texture not software produced texture. This is the bark of a fairly old Scots Pine.
Laowa Macro 2X
This is 8 photos stacked in Photoshop. The lens was approximately 1.5" from the subject, shot at f/22.0, ISO 160, with a 2.5 second exposure. Speaking of f/22.0, the Laowa lens shows that f/22.0 is available, but the dial only goes to f/16.0 So, the f/22.0 is just a guess.
The width of this shot is less than 1.5".
