It's easy to miss this bird because the pattern/color of its back feathers almost perfectly blends with the bark of the tree, (unless the tree has moss or algae growing on it haha).
Creepers creep upward on a tree trunk searching for insects. When they reach a high point, they may drop down and start again, or go try their luck at the bottom of a different tree.
This female Pileated Woodpecker was seen at Stony Creek Metropark.
Pileated Woodpeckers are the largest North American woodpecker with an average length of 16.5 inches (42cm), about the size of a crow. Their loud call and very loud drumming are distinctive and unmistakable.
The male is similar in appearance, but his red crest extends farther on his forehead to the bill, and he has a red "mustache."
A bird this big, flashy and noisy should be easy to find, but they are very wary, and they will fiy off when approached. Their favorite food is black ants found in decaying wood.

In the fall, they come in noisy hordes.
Their song is a monotonous, repetitious, constant squeak/squeal.
They aggressively push out songbirds at the feeders.
But, their iridescent feathers and spotted breast are beautiful in their Spring plumage. When there's only one of them, that is. :-)

A lichen is a fungus that lives in mutualistic symbiosis with an alga or with a blue algae, or usually with both. The fungal component belongs to the Ascomycetes, just common to the Basidiomycetes. Together they have a well-defined morphological structure and form a physiological unit !!

The bark on a London plane tree has a distinctive gray mottled appearance that develops when it exfoliates, revealing white, brown, and creamy yellow colors. This distinctive camouflage pattern makes it easy to identify a London plane tree from a distance.
The bark of the planetree sheds because of the tree’s rapid growth. The thin bark doesn’t expand as quickly as the tree, and large flakes of bark drop off every year.
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a black and white day at Color my World Daily and we celebrate Sliders Sunday. Since I had so much fun taking pictures for the tree bark theme at Looking close on Friday, I decide to add one more photo on this subject. As you can see, this is a whole picture of my tree bark pencil. They are super cool as photo props but unfortunately, those are a pain in the a**ss to sharpen. The wood (honestly I don’t even know if those are made from real wood … or some kind of Chinese magic super resistant wood look alike plastic…) is super hard and I even tried to use an exacto knife and it was almost impossible to cut… However, my pencils are here to stay since they make such an awesome props.
Have a beautiful day ! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!

Hello my amazing friends !
This weekend was truly very busy for my husband since he did some major work on our house. We almost finished a huge renovation project and this weekend we had some awesome developments in the decoration department (which is my favourite one so far in the whole process). Our house starts to look more and more like a home and more and more like us (which is truly awesome !). Today, I just found this awesome and very beautiful bar cart from the 1950 and I truly hope I will be able to get myself an early Christmas present… Not only it will be perfect to push (yes it has wheels !!) all my wine bottles around the house but also it will add a truly unique accent to our decor…Wish me luck !!!
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a black and white day at Color my World Daily so we are doing a kind of black and white picture with some selective red. Of course it is Sliders Sunday today as well so this picture will be my contribution for this awesome group.
Yesterday, I had to move (once again) all our furniture from my living room to somewhere else …and since there isn’t that much space left in my house some of our stuff will have to go « on vacation » to my parents house or outside (lets just hope it will not rain for the next few days). After moving everything out, we had to celebrate our success with some wine. So after that huge celebration with my parents, there wasn’t enough time for Flickr… I apologize for not answering your awesome comments my friends.
And as usual, today is my official hungover day… And I have to run, fold my laundry and take some pictures for next week. So wish me luck !!!
Have a beautiful day !! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!

Looking Close... on Friday: Tree Bark
Hello my amazing friends !
Another surreal vision of mine. I must admit, I love creating those composite pictures with my « old » photos. It is a challenge for my imagination but also I improve my Photoshop skills for sure ! Today we have a very comfy chair under a full moon: perfect set up for reflecting on the passing time … or just enjoying a glass of gin and tonic (why not ? Gin and tonic will help the reflection for sure !)… I hope you like my surreal visions as much as I do.
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!

Close-up of bark from a cherry tree in my garden. Looking at it in detail makes it look as though it is the surface of some alien planet!
For Looking close - on Friday. Theme Tree Bark.
I might put together a montage of textures for this theme. Really enjoyed shooting all the different types of bark, each tree seems so unique!
This is a side branch of a young tree not a trunk if you were wondering about scale!

Hello my amazing friends !
Yes, it is another full moon picture… Do we have another obsession ? I guess the answer is yes. I just hope you will like it as much as I do !!
FYI: I’m super busy right now so there is very little time in my schedule for photography… But I’m still alive and I should be able to be back full time very soon…before the next full moon …And since I have no clue when the next full moon is so please don’t take my word it for granted !!!!
Meanwhile keep safe and healthy my friends !! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! See you later !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!!
The Looking Close on Friday’s theme is tree bark and this is a shrub - am not sure what variety. Each year it has the shaggy look but it keeps on growing.

another reason I love photography is learning. This tree bark was really neat I had to look it up. I believe it's a Hickory tree and it's bark only gets to this shaggy look when its mature.

Black bear, (Ursus americanus), also called American bear.
The American black bear is a medium-sized bear native to North America. It is the continent's smallest and most widely distributed bear species. American black bears are omnivores, with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave forests in search of food. Sometimes they become attracted to human communities because of the immediate availability of food. The American black bear is the world's most common bear species. Wikipedia

That must be some delicious tree bark. To be fair, I have been putting peanuts on this tree stump on and off for a while. When there aren't any nuts, Robbie (grey squirrel) just chews on the bark and occasionally takes off with a piece of it to burry in the mulch.
Have a wonderful day :)
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Looking close on Friday is tree bark. Tree bark brings back so many memories from my childhood. My Dad use to make any kind of tiny constructions for my sister and I to play with. We were very impressed with his skills. He had this tiny pocket knife and each time he got his hands on some old tree bark, he would make something awesome for us. I have a very vivid memory of a very, very elaborate (keep in mind he only had his tiny pocket knife to work with, no other tools or glue !) tree bark boat, it was made with several pieces and was big enough for our dolls to fit in and sail the seven seas…We played with that boat for days. So each time I see a piece of tree bark, I think about my Dad, the boat builder and the day dreamer… My Dad is like a tree, keeping our family together…giving away his bark just so his children and grandchildren can sail trough life safely and peacefully.
Have a beautiful day ! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!
And just in case if you wonder: the tree bark in my picture is actually a wooden pencil. I could not resist buying those very cool looking but almost unusable (too hard to sharpen) tree bark pencils.
