Again, the bird that wakes my 6 year old, grrr.

Canon EOS 20D, thrift store Sun 180-410mm f5.6 zoom, hand-held.

It's blooming right now. A mass of blooms on what must be a very old large tree on an old farmstead along Augusta Highway, Route 25 at Princeton, S.C. Couldn't get too close as gate is closed and no trespassing signs posted and may not be occupied? Initially I thought it was a horsechestmut, but have dismissed that and now my best guess is Catalpa. If so, I'd expect it to be Catalpa bignonioides - Southern Catalpa.

I was struck by the different levels of light illuminating this single tree. The setting sun strikes the top most strongly and horizontally. Shadows settle in, downwards, branch by branch.

I entered from the south into Joshua Tree National Park late afternoon on a cloudy day, I stopped at the information office and saw some beautiful postcards with orange sunsets. I pointed to them and asked the park ranger what he thought about today's sunset. He glanced at the sky and said, "No chance". Discouraged, I kept driving through the park. Two hours later, I captured this magical moment.

At Circle B Bar Preserve, Polk County Florida, April 19, 2014. Taxodium distichum

She may only be 58cm tall, but she seems to be making short work of the decorating!

The tree was planted in 1718 so it is almost 300 years old and as such predates the Revolutionary War by almost 60 years. Its even older than Richmond (founded in 1737) by about 20 years. The species is Magnolia Acuminata and its the 2nd largest of its type in the world.

14 August 2009, Baram Forest very close to Israel's border with Lebanon. This is a small un-named tributary of Nahal Tzivon. The creek is dry except when it rains. The picture is not distorted. That's the shape of the creek bed.
