Twisted gumtree's create a somewhat chaotic fractal pattern. Taken at West Head road picnic area, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National park, Northern Beaches,Sydney.
This great tree has been a bit of an obsession for me to try and do justice to. I have returned here many times now and come away with nothing I felt happy with.
I was passing by it after taking the image of my neighbour sitting on the bench in the loch and noticed the the light was good and there was a light covering of snow all adding to the soft light and mood.
I left him warming up in the van and grabbed a couple of shots.
Hope you like the image and please critique or comment if you have time as I greatly appreciate feed back

Fan palms oasis at the end of the 49 Palms Oasis hike. Fan palm oases sit atop a fault in the Earth's crust. When groundwater hits a fault plane, it rises to the surface and creates conditions for an oasis. Joshua Tree National Park.

These sun-bleached skeletons were once living silverleaf oak trees along the Oracle Ridge Trail on Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalinas of southern Arizona. The Aspen Fire destroyed vast areas of this part of the Coronado National Forest.

On one side of the valley, the lush woodlands of the Crafnant Valley. On the other, the mountain of waste generated from Lead mining back in the 19th century.
I photographed the trees with a light tele lens and an open aperture to create a dreamy effect through a shallow depth of field. At the screen I saw that it was, for my taste, not enough to get the effect I was after, so I added some selective blur at the computer :)
HMBT! Happy Monochrome Bokeh Thursday
Many years ago (I think when I was in college), my mom and aunt went to an after Christmas sale and bought about 10 of these little stuffed snowmen because they were about a dollar each (mama is never one to turn down a good deal). My sister and I thought it was hilarious that our dining room table was covered in all these snowmen, which we thought were hideously ugly. We also thought the name "Snowden" was funny, although I later found out Snowden was a character in Raggedy Ann and Andy stories. When I left home, mama gave me one of her Snowdens, and later gave my sister one as well. Mama only has one that she puts out at Christmas, so I'll have to ask her if she remembers what she did with the rest of them.
Oh, and one more Snowden story: the Christmas mama bought them, I rubbed his head and asked him if he could make it snow so that I could have extra time to finish a term paper I was working on (obviously, I was just being silly; I didn't really think Snowden was magic). But would you believe that it did snow the next day, and I got extra time to finish my paper?
