Cross-section of grove of Sequoias in Seqouia National Park, Ca. These trees are the largest living things on planet earth. They are found only at 5-7k ft in elevation on the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas, and they grow to over 300 ft in hieght. They are nearly totally fireproof, live to be several thousand years old, and generally die only by falling over.
We haven't tasted, since insects seem to like this tree, too. We did add it to the dripline watering system, however. Soon we'll have prunes!

The tree stands in the local churchyard. It's over 300 years old, which makes it one of the oldest surviving tulip trees in Britain, as the species was originally introduced here in 1688. I estimate this one to be at least 20m high.. They can grow to 30m or more.
I hope you don't mind me posting another tree photo. I was checking older photos and I came across this one, so I decided to see if I can bring it to life with some textures. I've done two versions. I don't know which one I like best.
The Priddy Tree. A lone Scots Pine that stands on a small hill above Waldegrave Pool at Priddy Pools near Priddy, Somerset.
The quiver tree or "Kokerboom" is one of the most interesting and characteristic plants of the very hot and dry parts of Namibia and the northwestern part of the Cape Province in South Africa. Actually it is no tree, but an aloe plant. The botanical name is ALOE DICHOTOMA. Dichotoma refers to the forked branches of the plant. The plant is called a "Kokerboom" because some Bushmen and Hottentot tribes used the tough, pliable bark and branches to make quivers for their arrows. "Koker" is the Afrikaans word for quiver. The big trees in the forest of Farm Gariganus are between 200 and 300 years old.
I like my Christmas tree. I turn the lights on every morning about 8 am and don't turn them off again until I'm ready to go to bed.
