"In the most dramatic departure from the original Slugger model, The Slugger II has a unique design that technically allows for full 360 degrees traverse, although the tremendous recoil of the cannon means that the practical operational traverse is limited to far less than this."
The Slugger needed some traverse, but I wanted to add this without changing its signature look a whole lot. Eventually it seemed like what made most sense was to simply make the entire top of the vehicle one great big turret. Since it doesn't fire on the move, the driver can also function as the gunner when the Slugger is stationary. It's kind of out there, but it is a bit of a surprise, and I like how it makes the vehicle my own - it's almost a bit like a Transformer :)
Arc Equinox Aurora Over Lake Michigan (9/20/2015)
On the night of September 20th 2015, an M2.0 class solar CME sparked aurora that was powerful enough to be seen in the Northern portion of the Continental United states.
I was quite fortunate to experience a deep black cloudless night sky, and captured many beautiful images of the aurora peeking out from the northern horizon over Lake Michigan.
When the Aurora shines through the clouds, or drifts up from the horizon, there is an intoxicating feeling you get from its beauty, it's like staring at the flames rising up from a bonfire in the darkness of night. You see massive portions of the night sky flicker with the dull green glow of lightning fast rippling sheets of light, moving like the shape shifting camouflage of an octopus. Long morphing rivers of green, blue, red, yellow, purple orange and white light slowly flow and change shape over the course of a couple of minutes, with the same unpredictability as a stream of electricity jumping from one Tesla coil to another. Ghostly towering thin ribbons of light protrude hundreds of miles up into the darkness of space. creating what looks like a gigantic moving Gothic cathedral of lights and colors all around and above you.
Earth becomes the test vehicle in a cosmic wind tunnel, with wind in the form of a heliospheric current sheet testing the magnetic drag coefficient of her polar caps.

Along the Höllental lower Klettersteig.
Another requirement of this route is a "head for heights."
An initial issue I had taking these shots was framing this expansively beautiful space while ignoring the 200 meter drop a half boot length away beneath my butt, then turning my attention back to the rock a few inches in front of my face. That transition took a few moments both ways.
I blame this little distraction for a mistake with my camera settings -- selecting "Advanced Filter" on the Fuji instead of the desired "Still Image" one setting away. I hoped afterwards that this setting also saved to raw, but no luck. Time to file a bug report.

Established in 1929, Badlands National Park is located at the boundary between two levels of the Northern Prairie, which has eroded over millennia into buttes and pinnacles, as the sediment and underlying sedimentary rock has been eroded away by the Cheyenne River and White River and their tributaries, creating a rugged, beautiful, and difficult to traverse landscape.
The park was historically the home of the indigenous Lakota and Sioux people, who were forced onto a reservation, which included the modern-day park, in 1868. The park was part of the Oglala Sioux reservation until 1889, when the Second Treaty of Fort Laramie was unilaterally broken by the United States Government and the modern-day park, along with much of the surrounding land, was confiscated.
The park was established as the Badlands National Monument in 1929, and became a National Park in 1978. The park today is jointly administered by the National Park Service and the Oglala Sioux, who were given co-management of part of the park in the late 20th Century.
Though unsuitable for settlement and difficult to traverse, the badlands, named for both of these attributes, is a beautiful geologic formation, full of cliffs and hills that are comprised of beautiful, colorful layers of rocks and sediment, rugged, sharp edges in some places and smooth surfaces in others, and very obvious markings from water erosion, which continues to alter the landscape.
Not sure if you can trust driverless cars to stay on the road yet. :-)
Ok, something different. :-) Noticed some guys running their remote control 4WD cars through rocks near at creek a the park. Surprised how easily they traversed the big rocks, had to grab a few photos from a distance.
Maxim de Jong traversing along the ledge that runs from the North Couloir on Mt Rideout to the Koen/Nugent gully. The climbing was on steep but secure snow, but there wasn't a lot of rock protection available. Pickets would have been nice but, alas, I forgot them at home!

At the beginning I actually had have an idea for some rear lights. So I have searched for a car model where they might be fit. I have imagined the film "The Next Three Days" and the Chevrolet Traverse that is shown there. In the end I decided that the rear lights have to wait. That allowes me to stay closer to the original model.

"The body is an instrument which only gives off music when it is used as a body.
Always an orchestra, and just as music traverses walls, so sensuality traverses the body and reaches up to ecstasy."
