2008. In warm campeche, mexico, i was dying for some refreshing mango slices. This kind perpetually-smiling woman seemed happy to sell some to me, with my poor spanish and clumsy hand gestures. Great, except for the fact that she was determined to add a nice big portion of dried chili peppers and salt on my refreshments. (Darn you, smiling lady!)
Guess you could say I am officially published. I was contacted through flickr by a company called Schmap. I agreed to let them use one of my photos in their Boston travel guide. Of course they make all the bucks and all I get is my name under a photo of a case of cheesecakes. Oh, I can just see all the emails from people wanting to buy my photos. Big whoop.

This cool interactive map on Heritage-Key.com allows you to scroll to any area of the world and find out what ancient sites and/or artefacts you can see in that place, with a colour system to indicate how well-endowed a particular area is in the ancient relics department.
It's quite fascinating to see how antiquity is spread out across the world. Of course, there are the usual ancient suspects you'd expect to score highly - Rome, for instance, has a healthy relic-rate. Other areas are more surprising.

if lonely planet has a guide for it, i must visit it!!
iSpeak Italian and iSpeak French were both very helpful for getting by with the minimum conversation - splly if you are listening to them on an ipod, as you can just search for the appropriate word, and the ipod will often play that specific word for you.

(5/365) Everyone in the big machine tries to break your heart; pull you underneath
maybe I'm wrong and all that you get is all that you see
maybe I'm right and there's something out there to believe
I forgot to mention yesterday that it was a holiday. Happy (late) Casimir Pulaski Day everyone!
Today got off to a bad start so I didn't go to class and I watched my go-to bad day movie and felt a bit better. Then my two favorite people, Kaz and Mara, picked me up and we all went out for coffee. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long long time.
I plan on finishing season three of Parks and Rec tonight because that's what I do with my life.
I rented these books from the library because I've been thinking a lot about Paris recently. Cat and Lex and I have actually been thinking about moving there after we all have our AA degrees. It all sounds really exciting but also unrealistic so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
Dreaming is good though. Travel guides are pretty good too.
